St. Anthony s is a pan-nationality Orthodox community, under the omophorion of Metropolitan JOSEPH within the Self-ruled Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America. Divine Liturgy Variables on Sunday, March 24, 2019 Tone 2 / Eothinon 10 Second Sunday of Great Lent: St. Gregory Palamas & Forefeast of the Annunciation Venerable Zachariah the recluse and Artemon, bishop of Seleucia; New-hieromartyr Parthenios, patriarch of Constantinople **Divine Liturgy of St. Basil the Great** NOTE TO CLERGY: Remember to include this special petition in the Great Litany before the one for the head of state, as directed by the Antiochian Archdiocese. Deacon: Choir: For Metropolitan Paul, Archbishop John, and for their quick release from captivity and safe return, let us pray to the Lord. Lord, have mercy. ~ During the Little Entrance, chant the Resurrectional Apolytikion. The Eisodikon (Entrance Hymn) is O come, let us worship save us, O Son of God, Who art risen from the dead After the Little Entrance, chant the apolytikia in the following order: RESURRECTIONAL APOLYTIKION IN TONE TWO When Thou didst submit Thyself unto death, O Thou deathless and immortal One, then Thou didst destroy hell with Thy Godly power. And when Thou didst raise the dead from beneath the earth, all the powers of Heaven did cry aloud unto Thee: O Christ, Thou giver of life, glory to Thee. APOLYTIKION FOR THE FOREFEAST OF THE ANNUNCIATION IN TONE FOUR Today the preludes of universal joy move us to sing the prefestal hymn; for behold, Gabriel cometh, bringing the good tidings to the Virgin, and shall cry to her: Rejoice, thou who art full of grace; the Lord is with thee.

APOLYTIKION FOR ST. GREGORY PALAMAS IN TONE EIGHT O Star of Orthodoxy, support of the Church and its teacher, O comeliness of ascetics, and incontestable champion of those who speak in theology, Gregory the wonder-worker, the pride of Thessalonica and preacher of grace, implore thou constantly for the salvation of our souls. APOLYTIKION OF ST. ANTHONY THE GREAT Thou didst become like the zealous Elijah in his condition, and followed John the Baptist in his upright ways. Becoming a dweller in the wilderness, and an establisher of the universe by thy prayer O Father Anthony. Wherefore intercede thou with Christ our God to save our souls. KONTAKION FOR THE FOREFEAST OF THE ANNUNCIATION IN TONE FOUR (**On this day Thou hast appeared**) At the great Archangel s voice, * O Theotokos, * the All-holy Spirit came * upon thee and thou didst conceive * Him that is one in essence and throne * with God the Father, O Adam s recovery. THE EPISTLE O Lord, Thou wilt preserve us and keep us from this generation. Save me, O Lord, for the godly man hath disappeared. The Reading from the Epistle of St. Paul to the Hebrews. (1:10-2:3) In the beginning, Thou, O Lord, didst found the earth, and the heavens are the work of Thy hands; they will perish, but Thou remainest; they will all grow old like a garment, like a mantle Thou wilt roll them up, and they will be changed. But Thou art the same, and Thy years will never end. But to what angel has He ever said, Sit at My right hand, until I make Thine enemies a stool for thy feet? Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to serve, for the sake of those who are to obtain salvation? Therefore, we must pay closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. For if the message, declared by angels, was valid and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard Him. THE GOSPEL The Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Mark. (2:1-12) At that time, when Jesus returned to Capernaum after some days, it was reported that He was at home. And many were gathered together, so that there was no longer room for them, not even about the door; and He was preaching the Word to them. And they came, bringing to Jesus a paralytic carried by four men. And when they could not get near Jesus because of the crowd, they removed the roof above Him; and when they had made an opening, they let down the pallet on which the paralytic lay. And when Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, Son, your sins are forgiven. Now, some of the scribes were sitting there, reasoning in their hearts, Why does this man speak thus? It is blasphemy! Who can forgive sins but God alone? And immediately Jesus, perceiving in His spirit that they thus reasoned within themselves, said to them, Why do you reason thus in your hearts? Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, Your sins are forgiven, or to say, Rise, take up your pallet and walk? But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins He said to the paralytic I say to you, rise, take up your pallet and go home. And he rose, and immediately took up the pallet and went out before them all. So that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, We never saw anything like this! ~ The Divine Liturgy of St. Basil the Great continues as usual. ST. BASIL LITURGY MEGALYNARION In thee rejoiceth, O full of grace, all creation: the angelic hosts, and the race of men, O hallowed Temple and noetic paradise, glory of Virgins, of whom God was incarnate and became a little child, even our God Who is before all the ages; for He made thy womb a throne, and thy body He made more spacious than the heavens. In thee rejoiceth, O full of grace, all creation; and it glorifieth thee.

Dear Saint Anthony family, following is the calendar of all the services we will offer during Great Lent and Holy Week. It is our sincere hope that all take advantage of this opportunity to participate in these uplifting and beautiful services as we prepare for the Feast of Feasts, Pascha! The calendar may seem packed, but the weeks go by very quickly. The words of the penitential hymn from Matins during Lent comes to mind: Prepare for me the way of salvation, O Theotokos; for I have consumed my whole life with procrastination To remind us of these words, we will leave the entire calendar posted until Pascha, lining out the services that have already passed. The Lenten journey is one of sorrowful joy as we ponder our less than perfect sinful condition, but at the same time experience the joy of hope in God s great mercy. Let us make this journey spiritually profitable; please commit to attending as many services as are within your possibilities. May God bless you during this holy season. 2019 Lenten Services Schedule March is Antiochian Women Month Sunday March 24 th (2 nd Sunday of Lent) Matins at 8:45 Divine Liturgy at 10:00 AM Antiochian Women Annual Project Luncheon, Friday March 29 th Choir Rehearsal at 3:00PM 3 rd Presanctified Liturgy at 5:00PM (Followed by a Pot Luck Dinner) Saturday, March 30 th Catechism Class 4:00PM Great Vespers for the Sunday of Holy Cross 5:00 PM Followed by (A Spiritual Growth Meeting) Sunday March 31 st Sunday of Holy Cross (3 rd Sunday of Lent) Matins 8:45AM. FASTING AND FEASTING Lent should be more than a time for fasting. It should also be a joyous season of feasting. Lent is a time to fast from certain things and to feast on others. It is a season in which we should: Fast from judging others; feast on the Christ dwelling in them. Fast from emphasis on differences; feast on the unity of all life. Fast from thoughts of illness; feast on the healing power of God. Fast from words that pollute; feast on phrases that purify. Fast from discontent; feast on gratitude. Fast from anger; feast on patience. Fast from pessimism; feast on optimism. Fast from worry; feast on divine order. Fast from complaining; feast on appreciation. Fast from negatives; feast on affirmatives. Fast from bitterness; feast on forgiveness. Fast from self-concern; feast on compassion for others. Fast from discouragement; feast on hope. Fast from suspicion; feast on truth. Fast from thoughts that weaken; feast on promises that inspire.

Antiochian Women Announce 2019 Project: "Building A New Cathedral" Kh. Suzanne Murphy "What is more precious to all of us than the Antiochian Village?" His Eminence Metropolitan JOSEPH asked the members of the NAB and Spiritual Advisors this question as he prepared to tell us the theme of our 2019 NAB PROJECT. The question brought to mind what His Eminence Metropolitan PHILIP, of Thrice- Blessed Memory, used to say about the Antiochian Village: "The Antiochian Village is the HEART of our Archdiocese." (read more at http://www.antiochian.org/regulararticle/175) So, let's immediately start our fundraising for this inspirational, "once-in-alifetime" Project. Building a cathedral that will truly bring us all together at the Heart of the Archdiocese is going to require a large investment of time and money. Let's make a special effort this year so that we can see the results in a very special and splendid cathedral for our Archdiocese at the Antiochian Village. On behalf of the entire North American Board of the Antiochian Women, I thank you in advance for your tireless labor for this worthy cause. Yours in Christ Jesus our Lord, God, and Saviour, Suzanne Kh. Suzanne Murphy Vice President of the North American Board of the Antiochian Women NAB Project Coordinator Please join us today for our Annual Fish Luncheon Fundraiser for this important project. We kindly ask for a donation of $10 per Adult and $5 per Child. Thank you for your support!

ABOUT COMMUNION We are happy that you have joined us today. Indeed, we pray for the unity of the Faith for the day when all of Christianity are united as ONE and can share a common Chalice. However, this is not the case as yet. Please note that Holy Communion, the actual Body & Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, is only for Members of the Orthodox Church who have prepared themselves through prayer, fasting, and confession, & arrived before the Gospel reading. However, everyone is welcome to partake of the blessed bread and receive a blessing from the pastor at the dismissal. If you are interested, you may inquire with the pastor how you can become a member. If you are a guest or otherwise not a regular communicant, please give your baptismal name when receiving.
