PARISH MISSION STATEMENT A community of loving families, nourished by the Word and the Eucharist, united to serve God and one another, giving life and hope to all. C.C.E. PROGRAM GOALS The goals of the Continuing Christian Education Program are to: Provide parents with the necessary support in the faith formation of their children. Support catechists in nurturing a living, conscious and active faith in the youth they work with. Assist our youth in deepening their communion with Jesus Christ through knowledge of their faith, moral formation, learning how we celebrate liturgy, and experiencing our Catholic traditions of prayer. Promote the understanding of catechesis as a parish-wide event joined with Jesus threefold mission of Word, Worship and Service. ADMISSION POLICIES REGISTRATION The C.C.E. Program is for Kinder through grade 12. Placement of students is according to their grade level in school. REGISTRATION FEE $10 per child. ATTENDANCE Class will be held from 4:45 p.m. 6:00 p.m. for grade levels K 5 th grades each Wednesday as scheduled and from 7:00 p.m. 8:15 p.m. for grade levels 6 th 12 th as scheduled. Regular attendance at Sunday Mass and CCE is an important factor in each child s spiritual formation. To make up missed classes, please contact the CRE.
ARRIVAL and DEPARTURE Kindergarten 5 th grade students may be dropped off or you may accompany the child to class. Each child will be signed out at their classroom. Middle School and High School students will report to their classroom and be dismissed by the catechist. EARLY PICK UP Early pick up is discouraged, as is tardiness. Both are disruptive to the class. Missing all or part of weekly classes affects your child s religious formation. Please make being on time a priority. If you must pick up your child before dismissal, the parent/guardian is to send a note to the catechist. Students will be released only to those persons approved in a written, signed note by the parent/guardian. EMERGENCY CLASS CANCELLATION Inclement weather does not automatically cause cancellation. Please use your best judgment about whether or not to bring your child. If you have any questions about cancellation, please call the parish office. You may also sign up for the Remind! for updates. See the back of this booklet. DISCIPLINE All students are expected to share in the faith learning experiences of our program. If a child s behavior disrupts the learning process, the steps below will be followed. 1. First incident: The catechist will calmly remind the child of expected behavior and the consequences of misbehavior. 2. Second incident: The catechist aide will take the child to the office for discussion with the CRE concerning appropriate behavior. 3. After returning to class: If inappropriate behavior continues, a catechist aide will take the child back to the office to do class work for the duration of class time. The child s parent will be called to pick up the child and discuss the situation. (After steps 2 and 3, the child will be allowed the opportunity to rejoin the class if an understanding can be reached with the CRE regarding their expected behavior.) 4. If the child s behavior continues to disrupt the class, the parents will have to meet with the pastor.
CONDUCT All adult and student participants in the CCE Program are expected to conduct themselves with courtesy and respect to one another and to all parish and personal property. This includes: Stop, stand and greet the priest when he enters the classroom, as a form of reverence. Using appropriate language Drugs, alcohol, and tobacco are prohibited Weapons of any type are prohibited Modest clothing is expected especially on the 1 st Wednesday when we have Mass. No Caps in the building In addition, catechists will set specific rules for classroom behavior. This is not intended to be a comprehensive description of conduct, but a guide for general expectations of behavior. ELECTRONIC DEVICES may NOT be used in the classroom by students. Such devices will be immediately turned in to the electronic basket and returned to the student after class. COMMUNICATION We are here to serve the religious education needs of our youth and adults. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please feel free to share them with your child s catechist or call the CRE. Please read written notices sent home with your child, watch for notices in the parish bulletin, and listen for announcements made at Mass. You may also sign up to the OLOGCCE Remind!
