Jack Shrader Chancel Choir WORD A reading from Psalm 138 L: 1 I give you thanks, O LORD, with my whole heart; before the gods I sing your praise; 2 I bow down toward your holy temple and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness; for you have exalted your name and your word above everything. 3 On the day I called, you answered me, you increased my strength of soul. 4 All the kings of the earth shall praise you, O LORD, for they have heard the words of your mouth. 5 They shall sing of the ways of the LORD, for great is the glory of the LORD. 6 For though the LORD is high, he regards the lowly; but the haughty he perceives from far away. 7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve me against the wrath of my enemies; you stretch out your hand, and your right hand delivers me. 8 The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O LORD, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands. (Psalm 138) 4

6:00 HOLY BAPTISM OF KESSLY LYNN KUECKER INTRODUCTION Pastor: In Holy Baptism our gracious heavenly Father liberates us from sin and death by joining us to the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are born children of a fallen humanity; in the waters of Baptism we are reborn children of God and inheritors of eternal life. By water and the Holy Spirit we are made members of the Church which is the body of Christ. As we live with him and with his people, we grow in faith, love, and obedience to the will of God. PRESENTATION Pastor: Who presents this child for Holy Baptism? Sponsors: We present Kessly Lynn Kuecker to receive the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. Pastor: As you bring Kessly to receive the gift of baptism, you are entrusted with responsibilities: To live with her among God s faithful people, bring her to the word of God and the holy supper, teach her the Lord s Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments, place in her hands the holy scriptures, and nurture her in faith and prayer, so that she may learn to trust God, proclaim Christ through word and deed, care for others and the world God made, and work for justice and peace. Do you promise to help Kessly grow in the Christian faith and life? Parents: We do. 7
Pastor: Sponsors, do you promise to nurture Kessly in the Christian faith as you are empowered by God s Spirit, and help her live in the covenant of baptism and in communion with the church? Sponsors: We do. PROFESSION Pastor: Let us profess the faith in which we baptize today: Congregation: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen THANKSGIVING AT THE FONT BAPTISM Pastor: Kessly Lynn Kuecker is baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen LAYING ON OF HANDS Pastor: God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we give you thanks for freeing your sons and daughters from the power of sin and for raising them up to a new life through this holy sacrament. Pour your Holy Spirit upon Kessly; the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord, the spirit of joy in your presence. Amen 8
SIGNING WITH THE CROSS Pastor: Kessly, child of God, you have been sealed by the Holy Spirit and marked with the cross of Christ forever. Amen PRESENTATION OF THE GIFTS PRAYER FOR PARENTS Pastor: O God, the giver of all life, look with kindness upon Jon and McKahla. Let them ever rejoice in the gift you have given them. Make them teachers and examples of righteousness for their child. Strengthen them in their own Baptism so they may share eternally with their child the salvation you have given them, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen WELCOME Pastor: Members of First Lutheran, you have witnessed the Baptism of Kessly. Will you pray for her and share your faith with her? Will you remind her that she belongs to Christ and that as Christ s people we all belong to each other? Congregation: We will. Pastor: Then, welcome your new sister in the name of Jesus. Congregation: We welcome you into the body of Christ and into the mission we share: join us in giving thanks and praise to God and bearing God s creative and redeeming word to all the world. 9

THE GREAT THANKSGIVING P: The Lord be with you. C: And also with you. P: Lift up your hearts. C: We lift them to the Lord. P: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. C: It is right to give our thanks and praise. PREFACE P: It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks and praise to you, almighty and merciful God, through our Savior Jesus Christ. By the leading of a star he was shown forth to all nations; in the waters of the Jordan you proclaimed him your beloved Son; and in the miracle of water turned to wine he revealed your glory. And so, with all the choirs of angels, with the church on earth and the hosts of heaven, we praise your name and join their unending hymn: 13
SANCTUS Holy, Holy, Holy Lord WORDS OF INSTITUTION P: In the night in which he was handed over, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me. 14
Let us proclaim the mystery of faith: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. THE LORD S PRAYER P: Lord, remember us in your kingdom and teach us to pray: C: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen INVITATION TO COMMUNION P: Come to the table. Feast on God s abundant life for you.
