During this season of Lent and Easter. I have been thinking about Jesus' mission for us here on earth. One of Jesus' challenges for us is to honor and take care of all people. Exodus 20:12. It says, Honor your father and your mother, so that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you. We are called to honor our father s and mothers as well as our elders. But through Jesus' example, we are called to honor all people, because all of us have sacred worth with God. I remember hearing this as a kid, always honor your elders and treat them with respect. Jesus gives us many examples of what this looks like all throughout his life. We also see through scripture that we are all connected or tied together by the spirit of God. We are responsible to care for all people. The word honor means high respect. When we honor each other, we are able to have better and stronger relationships. These stronger relationships help us in our churches and our lives. They allow us to change nonmeaningful relationships into meaningful relationships. Being strong in the Lord and our faith is what makes this possible. We remember Jesus witness and call to care not only for our own families, but for all people because we are all the family of Jesus Christ. We also see what it means to be the church. Christians caring for those who are older and who are younger, as though those in need are our own family. That is our call as the church this Lenten season. God Bless! Pastor Joey

. FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH OF SAVANNA ADMINISTRATIVE COUNCIL SUNDAY, MARCH 17, 2019 11:45AM Chairperson John LeComte called the meeting to order with 12 members present. Pastor Joey Garcea opened the meeting with prayer. Minutes from the previous meeting were read and corrected. Kris Yingling moved, seconded by Pam Darrow, to accept the minutes as corrected and the motion passed. The Financial reports were presented. Vivan Eaton asked for a motion to renew the Quickbooks software at $216. Tom Michels so moved, seconded by Susan Michelle Jepsen, and the motion passed. Kris moved to accept the financial reports, seconded by Pam, and the motion passed. TRUSTEES: Bob Davidson has received 2 bids for the heating/cooling project ranging in price from $105,000 to $125,000. His committee is meeting this week to discuss them and he will present the winning bid next month. STAFF PARISH RELATIONS: LaVona Grissinger handed out a new choir director/musician job description. There was much discussion about the position. This person would work with Vivian, our musical director, and also the Worship committee. It is hoped that developing an adult and children s choir would enhance our services and increase attendance. The committee will continue to work on the job description. EDUCATION: There will be an Easter breakfast served and egg hunt. STEWARDSHIP/FINANCE: The audit of the church s funds was completed last month. We are still looking for someone to serve on this committee. OUTREACH: Jason Moore is still working on the Rainbow Covenant application

UMW: Bonnie Davies reported UMW is 150 years old. They celebrated with a birthday party at the last meeting. The Rockford district will have their next meeting at Poplar Grove in April. INTERCHURCH COUNCIL: The Lenten services are being held at the Table this year, with soup and bread being served. There are 2 churches that are upset with this and they have both decided not to participate in the services. We will be responsible for providing the meal on March 27th and April 3rd. Pastor Joey is preaching on March 27th and provided special music this past Wednesday. He was elected president of the council at the last meeting. Churches are taking donations for VBS in order to make it free for all children wanting to attend. We have collected $64 and $67 during our last 2 Sunday worship services. EVANGELISM: Pastor Joey has been visiting and calling members. He saw Glenn Brunner, Florence and John Powell, and Merle Law. PASTOR S REPORT: Pastor Joey is beginning a 6-week confirmation class with Kirk Hoffman. He sent a letter out to all members regarding the recent General Conference vote and is having a family meeting after worship on Sunday, March 24th. He is attending a special clergy meeting on March 22 and Bishop Sally Dyck is holding meetings around the conference and encouraged members to attend one of these meetings. He also told us his door is always open and he is available to anyone who has questions or wants to discuss the decision. He has finalized plans for coverage when he is on maternity leave. We are teaming up with the cub scouts to take food donations for the Food Pantry and working with the boy scouts who will be building Blessings boxes. He and LaVona went to Embury UMC in Freeport and bought banners, paraments, music, candlesticks, and several crosses. Embury is combining with another congregation and selling many of their worship items. John congratulated Pastor Joey on his well-written letter. The meeting was adjourned at 12:45PM. Respectfully submitted, Molly Andersen
