European colonisation came about in large part because of the Doctrine of Discovery, a flawed understanding that ignores Indigenous presence on the land. Affirming the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and, therefore, repudiating the wrong of such a doctrine, we begin our worship this morning by acknowledging

2 the unceded territory of the Chippewas of Nawash First Nation, the Saugeen Ojibwe and, more recently, the Saugeen Metis. We are all Treaty people, parties to the Upper Canada, Haldimand, Huron and Niagara Treaties. Keep us mindful of the covenants that have been made and broken with First Nations peoples. May we grow into living with respect on this land, walking into reconciliation through peace and friendship with all who live and work and worship on it. ANNOUNCEMENTS SHARING THE PEACE OF CHRIST GOD GATHERS US INTROIT Dearest Jesus J.G. Walther LIGHTING OF THE CHRIST CANDLE CALL TO WORSHIP AND PRAYER OF APPROACH Enter into worship through the doorway of the house of living faith. We come to be warmed by the Son s rise, to be enveloped in the mystery of the Creator s handiwork, to become one by the Spirit s invitation to gather. Come to grow as part of the living tree which is Good News. We come to root ourselves deeply in the soil of God s faithfulness, to branch widely as we provide the shade of loving kindness, to drink in the nourishment of the Light of the World. Come and soar like a kite on the wind, lovingly held in God s hands, as we commune in prayer: Loving Parent, who patiently cares, teaches and guides each moment, may you walk with us through each challenge in life, through each tragedy and each joyous leap, through every circumstance and every surprise. We ask you not to protect us, but to share our living with us, raising us to face each day with anticipation and with hope, preparing us to become the maturity of your kin-dom. Amen. *MORE VOICES 1 Let Us Build a House PRAYER OF CONFESSION (in unison) It s easy to follow you when life is good, O Christ, but it is hard to follow when life is filled with pain. We want to lash out, reaching for anything that provides a quick solution. In our living, when difficult challenges arise and we don t know what to do,

3 we yearn for easy answers instead of mending difficult relationships. In our struggling and in our wrestling, reveal to us our family of faith. As head of the household, forgive us for the misguided choices we make, nurturing us into living wholly by your Word. (Silent Prayer) ASSURANCE OF GRACE SHARING TIME Planting Seeds THE LORD S PRAYER (from Voices United #916) Our Father-Mother, who is in the heavens, may your name be made holy, may your dominion come, may your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today the bread we need; and forgive us our debts, as we have forgiven our debtors; and do not put us to the test, but rescue us from evil. For yours is the dominion, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. GOD MOVES AMONG US AS A FAMILY OF FAITH PRESENTATION On behalf of the congregation of Kincardine United Church, I present Ursula and Bernd Portz and Alex Peroff for membership in Kincardine United Church through profession of faith and Kevin Hart for membership in Kincardine United Church through certificate of transfer. INTRODUCTION PROFESSION OF FAITH Desiring the freedom of new life in Christ, do you promise to resist evil, turning away from sin and toward God, to live in love and justice? I DO, BY THE GRACE OF GOD. Do you believe in God, Source of Love, in Jesus Christ, Love Incarnate and in the Holy Spirit, Love s Power? I DO, BY THE GRACE OF GOD. Will you join with the people of this family of faith in the mission and the ministry of Christ s Church? I WILL, GOD BEING MY HELPER. *CONGREGATIONAL COMMITMENT Let us pledge to Bernd, Kevin, Alex and Ursula our support and our care. As a congregation which seeks to foster a journey of spiritual growth through hospitality, service, fellowship and study and, in community,

4 to build up the ministry of every person and together experience God s abundant love and grace, we commit ourselves to support you, to walk with you and to grow with you within this faith community. *VOICES UNITED 918 A New Creed WELCOME Into union with Christ, into the household of faith, we welcome you with joy and with thanksgiving. We are members of the body of Christ. We are inheritors of God s promise. Kevin, Alex, Bernd and Ursula, in the name of Christ we welcome you! Hamilton COMMUNITY PRAYERS OFFERING INVITATION OFFERING PRAYER AND LENTEN CANDLE EXTINGUISHING As we offer ourselves as part of your loving, giving family, O God, we offer to give up those ways we poison our relationships, extinguishing our desperate need for approval and for adoration, embracing our membership within the family of the living Christ, choosing to live in love and in wholeness. (Third Lenten Candle is Extinguished) Bless us as we dedicate our thoughts, words and actions our time, talent and treasure to your leading, O Spirit. Amen.
