In the Bangalore Press, one of the premier printing and publishing companies of the City, the Bhavan has found another solid collaborator to spread its educational activities. On February 15, the two friendly organizations took part in a Bhoomi Puja at the former s premises on the Mysore Road for a school to cater to poor and middle class children. The proposed school is to come up on a 2500 x 2700 sqft land leased out by the Bangalore Press for the purpose. The building will be opposite the City Armed Reserved Police Headquarters. EXPERTISE FROM BHAVAN The new school from the primary level will follow the CBSE syllabus. The building work will be undertaken by the Managing Committee of Bhavan plans for which are already under preparation. It will also meet the outlay on the development of the infrastructure. A governing body comprising 10 members will be in charge of the administration of the school. The school to be named as Bhavan Bangalore Press School will be open to all children, irrespective of caste, creed, colour, sex or religion. The classes will be from the Kindergarten to 12 th standard and will be free of capitation fee. BOOK ON GOD EVOKES KUDOS Dr. S.M. Jaamdar lighting the lamp at the function Speakers, led by Dr. S M Jaamdar, Managing Director of KPCL, at a function at Bhavan commended that Oh Devare Neenu Namageke Beku a book by Sri Murlidhar Rao,Technical Director of KPCL and published by the Bhavan not only for an indepth study but worthy of conducting a workshop on the topic of such far-reaching importance. The book itself is a Kannada translation of Oh God Why Do We Need You by the same author in English. As the author explained, it is the result of a casual talk between an European friend and himself about several topics like Indian culture, the Vedas, the pantheon of Gods and Godesses, rites, rituals, beliefs and customs that are prevalent in India. As Dr.Jaamdar who released the book opined, it is an indicator of Sri Rao s deep spiritual interests and disciplined life that have helped him to answer such complex questions about God. He complimented the facile way in which Sri Rao had juxtaposed such issues with events relating to daily life. 4
A WORKSHOP MOOTED Sri N Ramanuja Chairman, Bhavan Karnataka who presided over the function, declared that such a book on spirituality deserves deep study and suggested the holding of a workshop on the subject. Prof Chandrashekharaiah, former Principal, JSS College Mysore felt that the book had answered numerous commonly expressed intrigues about the existence of God. The style is simple and lucid. The book itself compares itself with many a popular novel on such social issues and helps one to seek God within. It would also help the common man, especially the youth to understand the concept of God. Sri Ayyapps Hooda, its translator, held that the book could serve as a guide for seekers of truth. Veteran journalist Sri C M Ramachandra, former editorial representative of The Hindu in Bangalore, Sri Paramaahamsa Tiwari, former Director, NPCL, Karwar also complimented the author on such a useful book. Earlier Sri H N Suresh Bhavan s Director of Programmes and Projects welcomed the gathering. Sri Sridhar Rao proposed a vote of thanks. The worthy book displayed by the dignitaries 5
