Pfafftown Baptist Church is on mission to serve God by sharing joyful life and displaying love with our greater community. Pfafftown Baptist Church September 2014 BOGGLE ME! Anyone who knows me even a little bit knows that language is very, very important to me. Words matter, and nuances of words matter. Because my kids have grown listening to my variety of vocabulary, and seen that simplicity of language is nearly worthless to me, it is a joy to listen to them grow in their own vocabularies and speak w i t h b e a u t i f u l expressiveness. It is a blessing. Recently Lilly and I were alone in the car and she shared with me that one of her favorite words is squabble. Say it, squabble. It is a fun word to say, isn t it?! Lilly and I laughed sharing favorite words; she loves language nearly as much as I do. One word that I love is boggle. I can t say why I love the word, but it surely is among the words I love to say and use. And I love to be boggled! Will you boggle me the rest of 2014? when trying to imagine something. As you can see, boggle carries no hint of fear or anxiety; it is a positive leaning word. It concerns the blooming of something great. Have you ever been astonished or overwhelmed trying to imagine something? It is usually a wonderful experience. Now that our Endless Summer is over we face the return of fall. Leaves will turn to beautiful colors, then head to the ground. Migratory birds will leave us for warmer climes south. Routines dictated by education will direct our schedules. And before we know it Thanksgiving, then Christmas, will be here. Ah, fall. This summer so many great things happened at PBC that there is no way to recount it in this space. Suffice it to say that wonderful activities, opportunities, and events were available for every person at PBC. It was a smorgasbord of food, fellowship, ministry and fun. Now fall is here. Now, before you look up the word or send me to the indecency police, boggle simply means to be astonished or overwhelmed (Continued on page 2)

Boggle... (continued from page 1) How might I be boggled this fall? The possibilities are endless. Two or three persons might approach me with great ministry ideas they are willing to lead. Someone or sometwo might reveal to me the great outreach idea recently revealed to them by God. Sufficient people might decide to try tithing for a few months that our offerings blow off the roof. Prominent voices might champion a radically faithful idea, and commit to it. This is but a short list from a quick brainstorming in my mind. Boggling could come from nearly anywhere, but rest assured, if you attempt the faithful I ll be sufficiently boggled a n d I p r o m i s e n o t t o squabble. And I would love to be boggled many times this fall. Will you boggle me, please? God willing, we will all be boggled. As always I d love to hear from you, especially if you want to boggle me, any way you want to reach me, about whatever you think. pbcpastor@windstream.net Sarah Sizemore... Sep 1 Ruth Butner... children Kindergarten through 6th grade, please encourage them to be part of this wonderful ministry. Wednesday, Sept. 10 will be when the Sanctuary Choir resumes rehearsing. Our normal schedule (as of the 17th) is to meet at 7:15 for our prayer and warmup me, and begin singing at 7:30. We end each rehearsal at 8:30. Last month, I did something that I probably haven't done in five years, maybe much longer: I didn't write an ar cle for this newsle er. That was partly due to summer schedules, and not having any out-of-theordinary newsworthy events. That was partly due to lack of inspira on. It was also due to a busy me in my other responsibili es outside PBC. Anyway, I apologize for not speaking to you through this medium this past month. At this me, due to various factors, the music ministry is unable to say when Handbells and Praise Band will resume. We can only say that we are addressing those factors and hope very soon to move forward with both groups. We will have to delay, but hope to be rehearsing by the end of September. Wednesday, Sept. 3 marks the beginning of Children's choir and hand chimes that begins at 6:45 (following their 6:15 general ac vity) and goes un l 7:30. We have a long-established ministry here so faithfully run by Carolyn Carpenter and April Johnson. If you have On the 10th, however, we will be having our annual Kickoff at 6:30. We will sing through several anthems for the Fall at that me. Any adult or youth is invited to join us during this me. This is a chance to just try out being in the choir. At 7:30pm, we invite everyone else involved in a Wednesday ac vity (children, adults and youth) to join us in refreshments. If you're par cipa ng, just bring a small food or drink item that everyone can share. I look forward to con nuing to see God at work in the music ministry! In Christ, David SINGLE SENIORS LUNCH Single Seniors Lunch will take place at noon on the third Thursday of each month. Come join the fun! WMU HAS A PLACE FOR YOU! WMU groups resume their meeting schedule in September. ALL ladies are invited to find a place to serve. The NIGHT group will meet September 8 @ 7:00pm in the Fellowship Hall. They meet the 2nd Monday of the month through May. The DAY group will meet September 9 @ 9:30am in the Fellowship Hall. They meet the 2nd Tuesday of every month. Both groups are open to any woman of any age who wishes to participate.

YOUTH NEWS Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the things you can think up if only you try. - Dr. Seuss Reflecting on my first year at Pfafftown Baptist brings great joy and excitement. I want to thank each one of you for your welcoming spirit and generous hearts. You truly made my first year one to remember. I am currently preparing many new activities, mission opportunities, and discipleship initiatives. As we all know, it takes a village...to do anything. Below I have listed several chances to support our children and youth for the upcoming weeks. Please be in prayer about your contributions. Blessings! Ever wanted to change the world? Now is your chance! The youth will be heading up a Change This World event in the coming months. We will be needing plenty of volunteers and workers, but first we need some supplies. The following items are being sought out: glass mason jars (empty) with lids. These can be left in the box at the entrance to the sanctuary between now and September 14. More detail to come! Children will be back in action this fall and will be selling Christmas cards to raise money for their discipleship opportunities throughout the year. Sales will begin mid-way through September and cards will be ordered at the beginning of November. See Larke with questions or to place orders starting after Labor Day.
