May 21, 2017 CONFIRMATION

May 21, 2017 PRE-SERVICE DEVOTION Psalm 66:8-20 Oh, bless our God, you peoples! And make the voice of His praise to be heard, Who keeps our soul among the living, And does not allow our feet to be moved. For You, O God, have tested us; You have refined us as silver is refined. You brought us into the net; You laid affliction on our backs. You have caused men to ride over our heads; We went through fire and through water; But You brought us out to rich fulfillment. I will go into Your house with burnt offerings; I will pay You my vows, Which my lips have uttered And my mouth has spoken when I was in trouble. I will offer You burnt sacrifices of fat animals, With the sweet aroma of rams; I will offer bulls with goats. Selah Come and hear, all you who fear God, And I will declare what He has done for my soul. I cried to Him with my mouth, And He was extolled with my tongue. If I regard iniquity in my heart, The Lord will not hear. But certainly God has heard me; He has attended to the voice of my prayer. Blessed be God, Who has not turned away my prayer, Nor His mercy from me! 2

GATHERING RITE OF BAPTISM Confirmation Sunday Pastor Matthew Ude Organists: Barry Hay & Ann Springler HYMN 334 Let Me Be Thine Forever p p In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. cc Amen. 3

May 21, 2017 4

Confirmation Sunday pp cc pp cc cc pp I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. Surely we were sinful at birth, sinful from the time our mothers conceived us. But we were washed, we were sanctified, we were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. My Loving Father, there you took me To be henceforth your child and heir.my faithful Savior, there you let me The fruit of all your sorrows share.o Holy Spirit, comfort me When threat ning clouds around I see. As baptized children of God, we confess our sins. c c Holy and merciful Father, I confess that I am by nature sinful and that I have disobeyed you in my thoughts, words, and actions. I have done what is evil and failed to do what is good. For this I deserve your punishment both now and in eternity. But I am truly sorry for my sins, and trusting in my Savior Jesus Christ, I pray: Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner. cc pp My faithful God, you fail me never; Your promise surely will endure.oh, cast me not away forever If words and deeds become impure.have mercy when I come defiled; Forgive, lift up, restore your child. Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or 5

May 21, 2017 wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. Therefore, as a called servant of Christ and by his authority, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. cc cc pp cc Amen. All that I am and love most dearly receive it all, O Lord, from me.let me confess my faith sincerely, and help me your own child to be!let nothing that I am or own serve any will yours alone. Let us pray O God, from whom all good things do come, grant to us, Your humble servants, that by Your holy inspiration we may think those things that are right and by Your merciful guiding may perform the same; through Jesus Christ your son, our Lord, who lives, and reigns with You and the Holy Ghost, one God, forevermore. A-men. QUESTIONING OF CONFIRMANDS Children s Choir On Eagle s Wings Monday Night: 332 Arm These Thy Soldiers, Mighty Lord SERMON John 14:15-21 If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with 6

Confirmation Sunday you forever the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him. GROW IN HIS WORD WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT Those who love the Lord will delight to learn more about Him and grow in His word. This word teaches us many things that we must accept by faith because we can not see them. This faith is based on that which has been seen, namely the mighty works of God especially the resurrection of Jesus. Although these things are beyond our understanding we have the promise of the Helper who will guide our hearts and minds. cc Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from Your presence. Take not Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation. Uphold me with Your free Spirit. Hymn 786 Take My Life and Let It Be OFFERING 7
