Lighthouse Presbyterian Church To grow in Christ, becoming like Him. October 13, 2016 Volume 10, Issue 21 Lighthouse Presbyterian Church PO Box 404 1402 E. 303rd Street Paola, KS 66071 913.294.2400 Worship: Sunday 10:00am Help Us Help Haiti Our sixth trip to Haiti will take place November 5-12, roughly one month after Hurricane Matthew devastated this already impoverished island nation. We trust in God s sovereign timing and hope to travel to some of the areas most affected by the hurricane. Our group still plans to fix wells an ever-present need there but we also hope to take part in giving other kinds of much-needed relief as well. How You Can Help / What We Can Bring 1. Clothes & Shoes: The Haitian people tend to be of lighter and smaller stature often due to malnutrition and sickness. So we tend to need more small and medium sizes of both clothes and shoes. Along with food and water these items are needed the most. 2. Peanut Butter: Because Haitians tend to like peanut butter and we will have limited space in our extra suitcase, we encourage you to buy plastic, medium size jars of peanut butter, which we will distribute to those in need. 3. Financial Gifts: Whatever you feel you can afford will help. Cholera is currently on the increase in Haiti and is spread by impure water. When we arrive in Haiti we plan to buy 5 gallon buckets for people to fill with purified water. One new, clean bucket will help a single family collect clean water for only $5.00 apiece, so your family can help a Haitian family for a small gift. Trip #6 Participants: Brad Buescher Dave Slyter Chris Dyer Oliver Sparks Frank Healy (Hillsdale) Jeff Minter (Overland Park) Russell Lantz (Topeka) Ron Dowd

If you would like to help with this, please feel free to call the Church office at 913-294-2400 or contact Maria Heid at 913-731-5078.

THE LIGHTHOUSE BEACON Page 4 Vine A vine symbolizes Christ, the foundation of life and nourishment of all people, who, in turn, are like branches. When separate from the vine, we branches can't survive at least not spiritually. "Apart from me," says Jesus, "you can do nothing" (John 15:5, NIV). But as God the gardener tends this relationship, we branches grow stronger and more mature in Jesus and alongside one another.

THE LIGHTHOUSE BEACON Page 6 OWNit365: One Story The OWNit365: One Story plan takes you through the key stories of the Bible in one year.
