Congratulations to Carly Musschoot for being the School Spelling Bee Champion and to Isabelle Halsall for being the alternate. Carly will move on to the Regional Spelling Bee at Heineman Middle School on February 6th. Good luck! local mission. Zion Students will be collecting bars of soap that we will donate to the M.O.R.E. Pantry. Our goal is to collect 200 regular size bars of soap. Our progress will be shown in the school entry way that week. Please help with this initiative and send in some soap. Thank You! Pancake Breakfast & Tour Zion Lutheran School! Lutheran Education Week is next week - January 22-26. Join the Zion teachers for the third annual pancake breakfast on Sunday, January 28 th, between services. We will be serving pancakes, sausage, fruit, and coffee cake from 9:00-10:30 AM. This year we will also be offering tours through our school. If you know of someone who would like to see Zion it would be a good time to visit, enjoy church, see the school, and have a great breakfast! A freewill offering will be taken to support the teachers conference budget and professional development at the 2019 Lutheran Education Association Convocation. We hope to see you there!

Up Coming Chapel Service 1/24 Chapel will be led by our Zion Lutheran Teachers! Open Gym Looking for an opportunity to let your kids burn off some energy this winter? Bring them to Zion's Open Gym on the following Sunday's from 1:00-3:00 PM. There will be equipment available and games to play. There is no charge for the Open Gym but you may make a $2 donation for equipment. The Open Gym is for Preschool through Kindergarten ages 4-7. All children must be accompanied by an adult or an older sibling at least 16 yrs. old that stays with them while attending the Open Gym. The Open Gym will be supervised by personal fitness instructor, Kelly Bertrand. Community events Page 6 Ski As A Family Sunday Nights 3pm-close Alpine Valley Resort We have the opportunity once again to ski as a group this year at Alpine Valley Resort. We will be skiing Sunday evenings from 3-10 p.m. The dates we plan to ski as a group are: January 7, 14, 21, 28, February 4, 11, 18, 25 of 2018 weather providing. There s a one-time club card fee of just $18.00. This gets you a $18.00 lift ticket, and $18.00 ski or snowboard rental on club night. In addition, the Student Program also includes one free lesson for any skill level on the school s club night up until January 21, 2018. Let s not forget about the parents and adult family and friends. They can also come out and enjoy the fun for the $18.00 price but only on the school trip dates on Sundays January-February 2018. Adults need not purchase a club card if their child or family relative has one. Students can use this fabulous card and get the discounts after 3pm on Monday through Friday also. New this season, students can come on Sundays in December (excluding Christmas Eve) after 3 pm and during the holidays including December 22, December 26-29, and December 31again after 3pm and use their club card. But students only with purchased club cards. There are a few policies: 1. Every STUDENT will need to purchase a club card. DO NOT LOSE IT or you will have to pay another $18. Please show your card every time you ski. The card is for sale NOW from Stephanie Martin. CASH ONLY! (Alpine s rule) 2. Every week you will need to fill out paperwork at Alpine. Every piece of paperwork costs $. If you make a mistake on rental forms or release of liability, still turn it in because they are numbered and there is a charge. 3. There is only 1 lesson included for free. If not there are also group lessons offered for $16 each. 4. All skiers/ boarders will be tested and given the appropriate sticker. 5. Every skier will need to report to the group sales area each group night to get your lifts and forms. 6. Alpine Valley will only accept cash! No checks or credit cards. 7. Alpine offers a ski corral for all equipment for FREE so you will not have to worry about locking equipment up. 8. If skiing any other time than group night, just show your group ID card and go to the regular ticket window. You will not get group prices unless you have your group ID card! This is a wonderful opportunity for family fun. We ask that parents be present during ski time. No child will be allowed to participate if a parent or guardian is not present. Parents need not ski. There is a very nice lodge to sit back and relax in. All family members are welcome to join us (older siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents, etc.). There is an age requirement of 7 years old for lessons. This is not a Zion Lutheran School event therefore Zion is not providing chaperones or responsible for any accidents.
