Day 7 Conversations Friday, March 29, 2019: Where does God show up in unexpected ways? Jeremiah 29:12-13 Then when you call upon me and come and pray to me, I will hear you. When you search for me, you will find me; if you seek me with all your heart. 1. Where did you see God on this trip? 2. What have you discovered about your faith here in Jamaica? 3. How will this affect how you seek God when you return home? 4. What has changed about your relationship with God on this trip? 5. Where are some of the unexpected places that you saw God? Day 7 Journal Welcome to Jamaica! Dear friends, Welcome to Jamaica! This is going to be an amazing experience. During this week we re going to have a wonderful opportunity to serve and live together in a place utterly different from home. I encourage you to jump in full-speed to experience the beauty of the island and its people to serve fully, returning from the work sites each day exhausted and satisfied because of how hard you have worked and we encourage you to fully embrace the love and grace that comes from God that you will experience this week. Where will God show up? Everywhere. Our hope is that as the week progresses, you will see the different ways that God works in the lives of those we encounter, and in your life. This week we re talking about how and where we see and encounter God. The question for us is not whether or not God is present, but rather where and when we sense God's presence. So keep your eyes open...look...see...and experience. For God is good! Peace, Pastor Todd

John 15:12-13 This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one s life for one s friends. 1. Please spend a few minutes introducing yourselves. Please make sure everyone knows who everyone else is. 2. Where do you see/feel God s presence in your everyday life? 3. Where have you seen/felt God s presence here in Jamaica? 4. What are some similarities and differences in the ways you have felt God s presence in these two different places? 1. Day 5 Conversations Wednesday, March 27, 2019: Where does God show up in us? Psalm 23:1-4 The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul. He leads me in right paths for his name s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me. 1. What are some of the ways God is with us every day? 2. How can we be more aware of God s presence in us in our daily lives? 3. What are some gifts/talents that God has blessed you with? 4. How can we use those gifts to spread his word? 5. How can we show God s love to the kids here in Jamaica? Day 5 Journal Day 2 Conversations Sunday, March 24, 2019: Where does God show up in times of need? Matthew 6:31-34 Therefore, do not worry, saying, what will we eat? or what will we drink? or what will we wear? For it is the Gentiles who strive for all these things; and indeed, your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But strive first for the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. So, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring worries of its own. Today s trouble is enough for today. 1. On a daily basis what are some of your physical needs? 2. How about emotional needs? 3. What are some of the physical and emotional needs we see here in Jamaica? 4. How are those similar or different to our own needs? 5. What can we do to worry less and trust that God will provide? As Christians, what can we do to be examples of this message? Day 2 Journal
Day 3 Conversations Monday, March 25, 2019: Where does God show up in times of joy? Philippians 4:4-7 Rejoice in the Lord always; again, I say, Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 1. In your daily life, where are some places you find joy? Day 4 Conversations Tuesday, March 26, 2019: Where does God show up in times of hope? Isaiah 40:31 *I would like to use a slightly different translation here if that is okay! In NRSV it uses the word wait instead of hope which obviously makes more sense with the theme, but if the verse doesn t work, I can find a new one! But those who hope in the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not be faint. 1. What are some of your hopes for your future? 2. Where did you find joy today? 2. What are some of your hopes for the kids at Westhaven? 3. What are some ways we can practice being joyful, even when it is difficult? 3. Where do you see strength in the kids at Westhaven? 4. What are some ways we can spread joy to those who need it? 4. How are hope and strength related? 5. Here in Jamaica there is a lot of joy but simultaneously a lot of need. What can we learn from the kids at Westhaven about being joyful? Day 3 Journal 5. What can we do as Christians to be an example of God s hope? Day 4 Journal
