THE ORDER OF MORNING WORSHIP SECOND SUNDAY AFTER CHRISTMAS DAY 10:30 AM JANUARY 4, 2015 THE FIRST NOTE OF THE PRELUDE begins our worship. Please use the prelude time to turn your attention to God s presence and help. Nurturing our relationships and friendships in fellowship is essential to our life as a congregation, so please continue to do so following our time of worship. Those who are able are invited to stand. Latecomers may be seated. FOCUSING UPON GOD S PRESENCE AND VOICE PRELUDE How Lovely Shines the Morning Star PAUL MANZ WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS CALL TO WORSHIP Leader: What came into existence was Life, and the Life was Light to live by. People: Merry Christmas! The Light of Life for all people is here! Leader: The Life-Light blazed out of the darkness; the darkness cannot put it out. People: All thanks and praise to the God of Light, which shines around us by day and by night! HYMN #127 Hark! The Herald Angels Sing INSERT (Alicia Shussett will sing Verse 1, the Senior Choir will sing Verse 2, the Congregation will sing Verses 3 and 4.) PRAYER OF PRAISE AND ADORATION CALL TO CONFESSION SILENT CONFESSION UNISON AFFIRMATION OF FAITH ADAPTED FROM THE CONFESSION OF 1967 Leader: Friends, let us confess our faith! ALL: In Jesus of Nazareth, true humanity was realized once and for all. To receive life from the risen Jesus is to have life eternal now and forevermore; to refuse life from him is to choose the darkness, which is separation from God. Life is a gift to be received with gratitude and a task to be pursued with courage. We are free to seek our lives within the purpose of God: to protect common welfare, to work for justice and peace, and to use our creativity for the fulfillment of human life. Our life finds its direction in the life of Jesus! Leader: In Christ, the Light of Life, God has illuminated the way of life that is beautiful, good and true. It is a path of forgiveness, healing and joy. ALL: Thanks be to God! HYMN #579 GLORIA PATRI Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, World without end. Amen, Amen. GATHERING JOYS AND CONCERNS FOR INTERCESSIONS AND PETITIONS THE WORD OF GOD TO THE CHURCH WORD WITH THE CHILDREN (For children grade 1 and younger, care is provided in the nursery during the remainder of our worship time. We ask that children from grade 2 upward remain with their families so they can continue to learn the beauty and art of worship. A single youth volunteer may be needed. Please ask the adult nursery personnel if a youth is necessary.) PRAYER OF DEDICATION HYMN #505 The Feast is Ready INSERT SACRAMENT OF THE LORD S SUPPER INVITATION TO THE LORD S TABLE FOR THE SACRAMENT Leader: Friends, this is the joyful feast of all those (young and old; visitor, guest and member; Christians of any heritage) who trust in the love of God offered gracefully and freely in Jesus Christ. There is no prerequisite to join in the meal of this table other than to confess that we are all imperfect and stand in need of God s grace revealed in Christ. People: We come to the table so that we might be in communion with our God and Savior, knowing His gracious kindness, being set right and commissioned to our calling. We come to the table so that we might be in communion with each other setting down all that divides us, being graceful unto each other, helping to carry each other s burdens and bearing witness to the reality of God s goodness gracefully offered to all.

Leader: This is the LORD s table. Christ sits at the head, and people of every nation, race and creed will be welcomed from east, west, north and south to be seated in His presence and receive the gift of his grace, his life and his illumination. People: Let us joyfully eat and drink together at the table of our Savior! WORDS OF INSTITUTION AND THE COMMUNION OF THE PEOPLE (It is the custom of Faith Church to hold the Bread and Cup until everyone is served so that all might feast together. When all have received the Bread, the pastor will invite us to eat of the bread of life. When all have received the Cup, the pastor will invite us to drink of the cup of salvation.)
