Information Leaflet Parish of St Columba & St John Fisher Thank you for coming to our church. You are very welcome. We hope this is a place where you can feel at home and come closer to God. This leaflet hopes to answer some of the questions people often ask us. If you are new to the area, please fill in one of the New Parishioner Forms at the back of church. Thank you. As a parish we are working together to build a community of prayer, friendship and service of God and neighbour.

Getting more involved. We always need more volunteers to help in our parish. Our service of God always begins at home forgiving and caring for each other, and among our neighbours and in our community. In church we always need new people to be readers, catechists, cleaners, musicians, gardeners, welcomers, people to help with Little Church, with our ministry to the bereaved, helping local people in difficulty and many other volunteers. Fr. Chris will be very happy to hear from anyone who would like to become more involved in the life of our parish community. Baptism of Babies and pre-school Children. If you wish to have your child baptized please contact Fr Chris. You will be asked to attend a preparation meeting and then choose the weekend on which we can celebrate the baptism. For older children the process is different and take longer: get in contact with the parish to find out more.

Children It is great to welcome families into our parish. Children are the present and the future of our Church. At our Sunday Mass at St Columba s children are invited to come to Little Church, for the first part of the Mass to listen to God s Word in a way that might be easier for them to understand. You are welcome to bring your children into the group if they are nervous about coming along on their own. First Holy Communion Year 4 Children, who have been baptised Catholic, can register for the First Communion programme (the Sunday school classes) which start in October each year. Learning more about the Catholic Faith as an Adult All year we try to support adults who would like to know more about our Faith. If you want to: deepen your own faith become a Catholic make your First Holy Communion as an adult be confirmed come back to celebrating the sacraments support your children in their faith

Please contact Fr Chris. We would be delighted to hear from you. In Times of Sickness If you are unable to attend Church through ill health please let us know and someone will be able to bring you Holy Communion at home. If you, or someone you know, would like to be visited by one of our special ministers of Holy Communion at home then please let us know. If you go into hospital ask any nurse or member of staff if you would like to be visited by one of the hospital chaplains. If you are ill or undergoing treatment please see Fr. Chris after any Mass. He can give you the Sacrament of the Sick asking God for healing and for the help and strength you need. Marriage Getting married in church does not need to cost a lot of money and it can be a real source of blessings for you and your family. Contact the parish if you have any questions about what is involved in getting married in church.or download the leaflet about marriage on the parish website.

Please let us know in good time if you would like to be married in one of our churches. Normally we need at least six months notice in the Archdiocese of Liverpool before a wedding can take place Financial support: We depend on the generosity of all those who use our church to keep going. If you are a UK tax-payer we can claim back around 25% of any money you give to the church if you Gift-Aid your donations. This is a big help to us. Giving by numbered envelope is a good way of supporting our parish. Please ask for a box of envelopes at the church. If you go to Mass somewhere else in the area and use one of our envelopes the money will be passed back to your parish. You might also like to have a monthly standing order with your bank donating to your parish so if you are unable to attend Mass our parish is still supported. Please let us know if you would like to Gift-Aid your weekly donations, use a box of parish envelopes or make a standing order.
