Dave and Melanie are extremely pleased and urge us to keep it up throughout the remainder of the Rotary year. Joette Deane reported that the high-school Interact Club is doing well and participating actively. If you intend to volunteer for any Rotary Youth Exchange/Student activities, you must first obtain and submit a Rotarian Volunteer Application and Background Check Form. If you need this form, please contact President Dave Granoff or Sabine Ingerson. Please try to remember to bring spare change to our weekly luncheon meetings so that you can contribute to our Pennies for Polio campaign by putting it in the collection can that will be sitting on each table. Please keep in mind our club s goal of 100% participation in annual donations to the Rotary Foundation. Please consider contributing to the Rotary Foundation if you haven t yet done so. All contributions are welcome. Members who have programs to sponsor for any of our luncheon meetings are asked to contact Sue Witmer, Dave Welsch, or Dave Granoff. 2

Today s Program: Sue Witmer introduced Erin Brown, Process Quality Manager at the SUNOCO Ethanol Plant in Fulton, New York. After briefly discussing the Fulton Ethanol Plant Improvement Project currently underway at the plant, Erin shared some interesting information with us, including the following: (1) SUNOCO has a long history of involvement in the production of alternative transportation fuels, (2) the Fulton plant is the only ethanol plant owned by SUNOCO, (3) the corn used at the plant in the production of ethanol is supplied entirely by local farmers, (4) all of the ethanol being produced at the plant (since October) is being used locally, (5) the plant is actually considered just as much a grain company as an ethanol company, and (6) in the near future it s likely that the federal government will require the increased use of ethanol in gasoline used for automobiles (from 10% ethanol to 15%). Thanks for a most informative (and frank) discussion of these facts and issues, Erin!
