Page 3 April 22, 2018 Reflection on the Word Saved by the One Who Was Rejected Some city teenagers often scorn and reject farm kids. Yet it's no exaggeration to say that humanity owes its life to farmers who care for the world's crops and livestock. This week's scriptures remind us that Jesus was as rejected as a shepherd, a farm boy, yet we owe our very lives to him. In this Sunday's reading from the Acts of the Apostles Peter tells the people that salvation comes through Jesus Christ, the one who was rejected. In John's letter we hear that we have become God's beloved children through Jesus, whom the world did not know. Lastly, in the Gospel Jesus describes himself as the Good Shepherd who "lays down his life for the sheep" (John 10:11). Will you join Jesus in laying down your life for God's beloved flock? A New Creation: Walking with the Risen Christ Looking for ways to nourish your spirituality post-lent? Celebrate the Easter Season - the fifty days of celebration of the Lord s resurrection from Easter Sunday to Pentecost with this online retreat. The retreat, inspired by Pope Francis Laudato Si, offers a chance to reflect prayerfully on our relationship to the Risen Lord as we encounter Christ in ourselves, in other people and in the whole of creation. This retreat, sponsored by the Jesuit Ministries, gives us an opportunity to consider how Christ comes to us anew each day just as he came to his disciples on the road to Emmaus, or locked away in an upper room or on the beach after they had returned from fishing. Check it out at: pathwaystogod.org Titus 2 Mothers Ministry Newcomers always welcome! The Titus 2 Mothers Ministry seeks to nurture spiritual transformation through mentoring relationships. The women will explore Beloved and Blessed, written by Kimberly Hahn, based on Proverbs 31. As we reflect on recognizing Jesus in the Breaking of the Bread, think for a moment whether there is someone you could invite to Mass and to explore what else the Catholic Faith might hold for them. For information on Christian initiation or RCIA, call or email Christa. Catholics Come Home OLMC will begin a series for nonpracticing Catholics who are seeking answers to questions about returning to the Church. Do you know someone who has left the Church? Most of us do not have to look very far to find members of our family or friends who are no longer active in their faith. Please share your precious gift of faith and invite them to Come Home. They are waiting for the invitation to return! Our program begins soon! For more information call 595-0385, ext. 107. The coordinators of this ministry: Phil and Andrea Stephens hope to plant the garden in late April/early May this year. Each year they are in need of volunteers to help plant, water and harvest the garden. This is a great ministry for families with small children as you can do this ministry at your convenience and children can participate with you. Every SINGLE item counts. Earth Day April 22 nd During the World Environment Day in 2013, Pope Francis noted that we are losing the attitude of wonder, contemplation, listening to creation. The implications of living in a horizontal manner (is that) we have moved away from God, we no longer read His signs. As many communities & groups celebrate Earth Day this week, may we reflect deeply on our moral & religious responsibility to care for the environment. As we enjoy all the signs of the spring renewal of life around us, let us join all creation in praising God. Then let us live out our gratitude for the gifts of the earth by engaging in actions, habits & public policies that preserve the fruitfulness of the earth, to better protect both human beings & the whole community of life that God created and loves. Parish Life Youth Ministry Retreat Fundraising Please help the youth of our Parish! During the months of April and May, the teens in our Parish will be raising money to help defray the cost of attending the awesome summer retreats hosted by Fundraisers the Diocese. Each retreat costs each participant approximately $400 to attend. Due to the high price, some teens miss out on a powerful opportunity to encounter Christ, because they simply can t afford it. Please seriously consider giving a donation at any of following fundraising events. You re generosity is very much appreciated! April 21/22 A second collection at each Mass will be taken up. 100% of this collection goes to the retreat fund! April 28/29 After each Mass, the teens will be selling Catholic jewelry, rosaries, and crucifixes. 50% of the tag price goes to our retreat fund. Any payment above the price tag will also go to our retreat fund. Please be generous!
