What Does the Kingdom of God or of Heaven Refer To?

Nothing. This morning I m not going to preach on anything, which means I am going to preach on nothing!

And I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a scroll written inside and on the back, sealed with seven seals. Rev.

3 Jesus answered and said to him, Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

At first glance these words seem to deliver a fairly simple message, however, these words encompass a significant amount of His message for today.

Session Three Prove It: The King Romans 12:1 2 (KJV) I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. New Person- 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT) This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! Get a Picture- 2 Corinthians 3:16 18 (NLT) But whenever someone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17 For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord who is the Spirit makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image. Four Images- Revelation 4:6 7 (NLT) In front of the throne was a shiny sea of glass, sparkling like crystal. In the center and around the throne were four living beings, each covered with eyes, front and back. 7 The first of these living beings was like a lion; the second was like an ox; the third had a human face; and the fourth was like an eagle in flight. Lets put on Christ and hide in His character- Galatians 3:27 (NLT) And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes. We Begin with Lion: Matthew 1:1 2 (NLT) This is a record of the ancestors of Jesus the Messiah, a descendant of David and of Abraham: 2 Abraham was the father of Isaac. Isaac was the father of Jacob. Jacob was the father of Judah and his brothers. Tribe of Judah- Genesis 49:8 10 (NLT) Judah, your brothers will praise you. You will grasp your enemies by the neck. All your relatives will bow before you. 9 Judah, my son, is a young lion that has finished eating its prey. Like a lion he crouches and lies down; like a lioness who dares to rouse him? 10 The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler s staff from his descendants, until the coming of the one to whom it belongs, the one whom all nations will honor.

Revelation 5:5 (NLT) But one of the twenty-four elders said to me, Stop weeping! Look, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the heir to David s throne, has won the victory. He is worthy to open the scroll and its seven seals. Descendant of David- 2 Samuel 7:16 (NLT) Your house and your kingdom will continue before me for all time, and your throne will be secure forever. Matthew 2:1 2 (NLT) Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the reign of King Herod. About that time some wise men from eastern lands arrived in Jerusalem, asking, 2 Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star as it rose, and we have come to worship him. King Jesus Kingdom: Matthew 25:34 (NLT) Then the King will say to those on his right, Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. 1. Kingdom Dynamic- A. Growth Happens with Understanding- Matthew 13:3 (NLT) He told many stories in the form of parables, such as this one: Listen! A farmer went out to plant some seeds. B. There are some bad people in the mix- Matthew 13:24 25 (NLT) Here is another story Jesus told: The Kingdom of Heaven is like a farmer who planted good seed in his field. 25 But that night as the workers slept, his enemy came and planted weeds among the wheat, then slipped away. C. Small beginnings have great potential- Matthew 13:31 32 (NLT) Here is another illustration Jesus used: The Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed planted in a field. D. The Kingdom takes over your life- Matthew 13:33 (NLT) Jesus also used this illustration: The Kingdom of Heaven is like the yeast a woman used in making bread. Even though she put only a little yeast in three measures of flour, it permeated every part of the dough. E. Finding the Kingdom is worth everything- Matthew 13:44 (NLT) The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field.

2. Kingdom Government- Matthew 5:1 2 (NLT) One day as he saw the crowds gathering, Jesus went up on the mountainside and sat down. His disciples gathered around him, 2 and he began to teach them. A. Rewards- Matthew 5:3 (NLT) God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. None Fold Blessing is Pronounced- Beatitudes B. Reasons: A lifestyle that points people to Jesus- Matthew 5:13 16 (NLT) You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. 14 You are the light of the world like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. C. Responsibilities: a. Recover Relationships- Matthew 5:21 (NLT) You have heard that our ancestors were told, You must not murder. If you commit murder, you are subject to judgment. b. Values Family- Matthew 5:27-28 (NLT) You have heard the commandment that says, You must not commit adultery. 28 But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart. c. Keeps Your Integrity- Matthew 5:33 You have also heard that our ancestors were told, You must not break your vows; you must carry out the vows you make to the LORD. is God s throne. d. Doesn't Retaliate- Matthew 5:38-39 (NLT) You have heard the law that says the punishment must match the injury: An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth. e. Love People No Matter the Circumstance- Matthew 5:43-44 (NLT) You have heard the law that says, Love your neighbor and hate your enemy. 44 But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you!

f. Be Humble, Don t Self Promote- Matthew 6:1 (NLT) Watch out! Don t do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven. g. Value Eternity over Temporary- Matthew 6:19-20 (NLT) Don t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. h. Don t Worry- Matthew 5:25 (NLT) That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life whether you have enough food and drink, or enough clothes to wear. Isn t life more than food, and your body more than clothing? i. Make God First- Matthew 6:33 (NLT) Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. j. See yourself in what you say about others- Matthew 7:1 (NLT) Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. k. Golden Rule- Matthew 7:12 (NLT) Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets. 3. Kings have Authority- Matthew 12:28 29 (NLT) But if I am casting out demons by the Spirit of God, then the Kingdom of God has arrived among you. 29 For who is powerful enough to enter the house of a strong man and plunder his goods? Only someone even stronger someone who could tie him up and then plunder his house. Close: Matthew 8:9 10 (NLT) I know this because I am under the authority of my superior officers, and I have authority over my soldiers. I only need to say, Go, and they go, or Come, and they come. And if I say to my slaves, Do this, they do it.

Go Share- Matthew 28:18 20 (NLT) Jesus came and told his disciples, I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.
