Highlands Happenings Mama God The God that Jesus talks about this week (Luke 13.31-35) is more of a chicken than a fox. More of a mother than a father. More of a lover than an authority figure. Jesus contrasts himself with Herod, the politician tasked by Caesar to rule Palestine. Herod is an aggressor, God is a protector. Herod oppresses, God nurtures. Herod is after his own well-being.

God is after her children's well-being. Yet the people of Jesus' time chose to submit to Herod. They chose to trust Herod. And we aren't all that different today. In times of fear, pain, and anger we're likely to trust in power rather than love. In whom and in what do you place your trust? What would it take for you to trust God during times of fear and pain? What does it look like and feel like for you to trust God? Happy St. Patrick's Day! 2019 Denver St. Patrick's Day Parade. March 16, Parade begins 9:30am On Sundays during Lent this year, we'll be exploring several ancient spiritual disciplines that Jesus practiced. You'll then be invited to reflect on how these disciplines shape your experiences of God in daily

life during the week. To learn more about these disciplines, consider checking out the book Spiritual Classics: Selected Readings on the Twelve Spiritual Disciplines edited by Richard J. Foster and Emilie Griffin. Mid-Week Vespers on Wednesday evenings (5:30-6:30) Come join us throughout the season of Lent for midweek evening prayer! We'll start at 5:30 in the Fellowship Hall (downstairs in the church building) by sharing a simple soup supper down in the Fellowship Hall. Then we'll move up to the sanctuary for Evening Prayer at 6. These services are a great way to engage Lent, meet others in the community, and center yourself in the middle of the week. LENT WORSHIP SCHEDULE: Vespers - Every Wednesday of Lent 5:30-6:30pm Soup Supper at 5:30pm in Fellowship Hall Evening Prayer at 6:00pm in Sanctuary HOLY WEEK WORSHIP SCHEDULE: Palm Sunday - April 14, 10:00am Maundy Thursday - April 18, 6:00pm Good Friday - April 19, 6:00pm Easter - April 21, 10:00am Vespers Soup Sign-up! Willing to bring a crock pot or two of soup or bread for one of our Wednesday night suppers during Lent? We've got one slot left for Wednesday April 10th to bring a vegetarian soup! Sign up here.

We'll also print out this sheet and pass it around on Sunday. Are You a Thrivent Member? If you are a Thrivent Member, don t forget to designate 2018 Thrivent Choice Dollars by March 31. The Thrivent Choice program encourages members to recommend where Thrivent Financial distributes part of its charitable grant funds. Member can direct these Choice Dollars to nonprofit organizations, including Highlands Lutheran, Lutheran Family Services, and the Rocky Mountain Synod. It takes only a minute to designate funds on the Thrivent Website. If you need any assistance, contact Pam McClune. Easter Flowers Would you like to purchase flowers to decorate our sanctuary on Easter? We have an order in to our local

flower shop, Diz's Daisies, for lillies, tulips, and daffodils. After Easter, you're then welcome to take your plant home! Click here to sign up to purchase one. Diaper Drive coming in April We will be collecting diapers, wipes, and diaper creams for the WeeCycle Diaper Bank during the month of April. The WeeCycle Diaper Bank is a nonprofit organization serving Denver Metro Area families in need (via services like Bienvenidos Food Bank) to alleviate the effect of diaper need. A donation bin will be available in the narthex starting April 1st. Pastor's Hours Office Hours: Mon: DAY OFF. I won't be answering emails, texts, or phone calls except for in cases of emergency.
