Highlands Happenings Mama God The God that Jesus talks about this week (Luke 13.31-35) is more of a chicken than a fox. More of a mother than a father. More of a lover than an authority figure. Jesus contrasts himself with Herod, the politician tasked by Caesar to rule Palestine. Herod is an aggressor, God is a protector. Herod oppresses, God nurtures. Herod is after his own well-being.
God is after her children's well-being. Yet the people of Jesus' time chose to submit to Herod. They chose to trust Herod. And we aren't all that different today. In times of fear, pain, and anger we're likely to trust in power rather than love. In whom and in what do you place your trust? What would it take for you to trust God during times of fear and pain? What does it look like and feel like for you to trust God? Happy St. Patrick's Day! 2019 Denver St. Patrick's Day Parade. March 16, Parade begins 9:30am On Sundays during Lent this year, we'll be exploring several ancient spiritual disciplines that Jesus practiced. You'll then be invited to reflect on how these disciplines shape your experiences of God in daily
life during the week. To learn more about these disciplines, consider checking out the book Spiritual Classics: Selected Readings on the Twelve Spiritual Disciplines edited by Richard J. Foster and Emilie Griffin. Mid-Week Vespers on Wednesday evenings (5:30-6:30) Come join us throughout the season of Lent for midweek evening prayer! We'll start at 5:30 in the Fellowship Hall (downstairs in the church building) by sharing a simple soup supper down in the Fellowship Hall. Then we'll move up to the sanctuary for Evening Prayer at 6. These services are a great way to engage Lent, meet others in the community, and center yourself in the middle of the week.
