May 2017 I write this during the time that the United Methodist Judicial Council (our supreme court ) is considering several important matters regarding very divisive issues in our denomination, not the least of which is the election of a bishop who is a woman married to another woman. I do not know what the outcome of the Judicial Council s deliberations will be, but one thing I do know: that no matter what is decided, God is still God! The decision could go the way that we, at The Fount, want it to: that the election of the bishop in question will be vacated. The Judicial Council could also rule that annual conferences that have announced their intention to disobey the ordination qualifications in our Book of Discipline are out of order and must come into compliance with the rule of the church. But the decisions could also go the other way, and I need to be prepared for that, as do you. To prepare, we need only remember that decisions of human courts do not change the eternal rule of God. We want them to comply with God s rules, to be sure. But they don t always do that. And when they don t, the faithful of God need only redouble efforts to remain faithful. God has revealed His will in the Bible; let us turn to the Scriptures for guidance and strength. When you read this, the decision(s) will probably already be handed down. I will be with the brothers and sisters of the Wesleyan Covenant Association meeting in Memphis, so we will either be dancing with joy or solemnly praying! I encourage you to receive the news with faith, knowing that whatever it is our job at The Fount is to remain faithful to God s will and purpose as revealed in the Old and New Testaments of the Holy Bible. The staff and teachers of the Preschool wish to extend their heartfelt thanks to the preschool board and the church members for the warm reception they received on Preschool Sunday, April 2nd. It was an added pleasure to have some of our preschool families in attendance. Everyone enjoyed hearing some of the children from the preschool sing with Pastor Glen too! The preschool will be hosting their annual open house on May 10th from 6:00 7:00 pm. All are invited and welcome to come and meet the preschool staff, tour the school and visit the classrooms. The plans for preschool summer school are final! This year s summer school is a two-week program beginning June 19th through June 30th. The theme for both weeks is Science is Cool and Splish...Splash Water Fun. The summer school program is designed for children ages 2.5 through 6 years old. (Sorry, no children older than kindergarten may attend.) Please contact the preschool office (phone 714-968-2834) if you would like to register a child or children. Page 3 - The Source
At April s Messy Church we learned about Mary, sister of Lazarus, who seemed to know more about what was going to happen to Jesus than even His disciples did. She was willing to part with what was likely the most expensive possession she owned as an expression of her love for Jesus. We learned that some scoffed at the waste of resources but their motivations were false. We made scented oil diffusers to remind us of the sweet scent of the oil, beaded cross necklaces to remind us to worship anywhere and everywhere and string art to encourage us keep on worshiping and worshiping Jesus to see fruit. The Kudukis, Parsons, Perez, Seaver, Wilson, and Willems families were in attendance and many more participated in leadership of activities and hospitality. Pat and her hospitality team (Elyse and Betty) served up some delicious Pizza and Salad. Don't miss us in May for our last Messy Church service before we take a summer break. We'll be back better than ever next September! Page 4 - The Source
The church office and the preschool will be closed on May 29th in observance of Memorial Day. The Greater Huntington Beach Interfaith Council will hold an interfaith prayer breakfast on Thursday, May 4th at the Surf City United Methodist Church, 2721 Delaware Street, Huntington, Beach, CA. The program will begin at 8:30 am with breakfast following. This event s keynote speaker is Dr. Thomas A. Parham, Vice Chancellor of the University of California, Irvine. Join us on Sunday, May 7 th, as we launch our Vision 2020 campaign! After worship we will have a town hall type of meeting where questions can be asked and answered and the list of projects explored. The opportunity to make commitments (both financially and spiritually) to the on-going vision of The Fount will be given. And then, we will all enjoy a lunch together out on the lawn. Salads and side dishes will be potluck and the Men s Group will be grilling up the main course! A change in the date was made to allow Pastor Glen to attend the WCA Event in Memphis. The Fount received a thank you letter from Beach Cities Interfaith Services (BCIS) this week acknowledging our donation of $366.00 ($266.00 was from our Souper Bowl collection on February 5th, 2017). BCIS is one of the mission/outreach programs supported by The Fount. They also stated they are blessed to have The Fount as a partner in their mission to make the world a better place for the less fortunate in the Orange County area. Celebrate your special relationship with your mom, child, grandchild by having your picture taken by Mike Whitmore and the Photographic Society of Orange County on Sunday, May 14th immediately following service. They will take a great picture, because after all YOU are in it! Your photo will be sent to you by email. How great is that?! So come on Mother's Day and be prepared for your special photo! Fathers, start practicing your smiles now, as the Photographic Society will be taking photos of the dads on Father s Day, June 18th, this year as well! The scouts who meet regularly on our campus, troop 567 (boys ages 11 1/2 and up) and pack 567 (boys ages 5-11), will be hosting an open house on the front lawn of The Fount on May 21st from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. Both the boys from the pack and the troop will be demonstrating activities that reflect what scouts do during meetings or special events.
