CHANCELLOR S NOTES Brothers, Hard to believe that we are already into May. There are a lot of things that need to get done in the next two months. First we have nominations for new officers for the coming year. If you have any interest in running for an office please let me know so that we can get you nominated. Nominations will take place at the May meeting on May 7, 2015. Elections will take place at the June 4, 2015 meeting. Please attend both of these meetings and make your vote count. We have Texas Hold em scheduled for June 14-17 from 9:00am to 2:00am. We will run it in three shifts, 9 to 3, 3 to 9, and 9 to 2. The state requires us to supply three people to do each shift. This event will take place at the Sterling Bistro, 42092 Van Dyke which is just north of the Vann Dyke round about. This is a new spot for us but it does look very promising that we will make more money at this event than we made at Five Star. We need your help to fill in the workers list. Please contact me if you can help us. Please keep Adeline Koehler in your prayers. Father Steve mother passed away on Good Friday. Kathy Pawlik is slowly coming back to normal but has to go thru two more rounds of Chemo. Please include her in your prayers. Brothers Joe Bienak and Dan Lobby are both requesting prayers to make it thru their illness. Finally I want to thank all of the brother knights that have made this past year successful in money raising and in spiritual events. You guys have always helped out when needed. Thank you!!! I believe we will make double star for the council by June. We are currently one member short but have a few more applicants that need to go thru the degree work to make our role. Knights of Columbus BENEFITS NEWS LAWS and RULES of the ORDER; The laws and rules of our Order, as well as state (provincial) laws, specify that the Knights of Columbus may accept insurance applications only from Knights of Columbus members. As a member, you may apply for insurance on yourself, your wife and your dependent, minor children. The Order s Board of Directors has taken action, though, to assure that a brother Knight s widow maintains the right to purchase additional insurance for a limited time. This can be of great benefit and comfort to those we leave behind. This right to apply is available only to the widows of insured members. If a member has not availed himself of our top-rated life insurance program, or purchased an annuity or long-term care policy, Disability Insurance, this benefit is not available to his widow. But if the member was an insured member, his widow has the right to apply for additional insurance on her life and on the lives of the member s minor children. This right can be exercised for up to one year following the Order s receipt of proof of the insured s death. Know two things. First, I ll assist your widow and children in any way possible if you should die, both with your Knights of Columbus insurance and any other life insurance you may have. Second, I ll provide them my best professional advice and service, to assure that they continue to have adequate insurance protection. As a professional agent and a brother Knight, I have no greater responsibility. In Christ, *Receive a complete Family Needs Analysis at my expense. Below are listed the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy: CORPORAL SPIRITUAL Feed the hungry Comfort the prisoners Teach the ignorant Console the sorrowful Give drink to the thirsty Visit the sick Pray for living and dead Bear wrongs patiently Clothe the naked Bury the dead Correct sinners Forgive wrongs willingly Shelter the homeless Counsel those in doubt The Catechism of the Catholic Church says of these: The works of mercy are charitable actions by which we come to the aid of our neighbor in their spiritual or bodily necessities Among all these, giving alms to the poor is one of the chief witnesses to fraternal charity, it is also a work of justice and pleasing to God (#2447). Jesus, becomes more specific about these Works of Mercy as He reveals the following to St. Faustina: I am giving you three ways of exercising Mercy toward your neighbor: the first by deed, the second--- by word, the third by prayer. In these three degrees is contained the fullness of Mercy, and it is an unquestionable proof of love for Me. By this means a soul glorifies and pays reverence to My Mercy. (# 742 DIARY). Dear Brother Knights and Spouses, many of you have mentioned that you are looking for ways to foster and express your Catholic faith, for yourselves and your children, in a deeper way. In this upcoming Jubilee Year of Mercy announced by Pope Francis, please consider becoming more actively involved in your K of C council. We are not only a fraternal group, we are a family based Catholic organization. We offer you and your family members opportunities to exercise your faith and respond to Jesus call. From feeding the poor in soup kitchens, helping the mentally impaired, to supporting those who are in grief over the loss of their loved one, by our rosary ministry at funeral homes, these are but a few of the ways that we respond to Jesus call to help our neighbor. Perhaps the Lord is speaking into your hearts now. I would appreciate hearing from you to discuss your desire and ideas, for you and your family members, on how to serve the Lord more fully. Feel free to contact me at 248-214-8862 or jimbarb@wowway.com. Jim Wisniewski Deputy Grand Knight

MEMBERSHIP M.I. REPORT The Administrative Year is coming to end, and our membership efforts have been very successful. Our membership stepped up to the plate, and hit a home run, we were able to add to our membership, twenty one Catholic Gentleman, with the hope of gaining at least one or more new members, allowing our Council to become a Double Star Council. I will be working with the help of my fellow Brother Knights to accomblish that effort. So please take the time, to ask a Cathoilc Gentleman to join our Order, and allow us to continue building our Council. That effort will help us continue, the good work, we as a Council pursue. Tom Starynchak Membership Director St Nicholas Council #7011 Knights of Columbus Our efforts during this years Tootsie Roll Drive, brought us a reasonable return. Thru the work of nine Brother Knights, we were able to collect $1,027 (see below who helped in the effort). This amount is only a portion of what we need to help support our Council s Charity Program. Thru the next few months, we will continue working thru various means, to raise more dollars in are effort to help the Mentally Impaired in our Community.
