Say Yes To Life Institute For Unlocking Human Potential Brampton, Ontario To share the age old wisdom with all and to provide the opportunity for everyone to experience life at its fullest and challenge everyone to Dare to Dream Big to realize their full potential N. Pas Paskaran npaskaran@gmail.com Volume 17 Issue 8 August 2017 Greetings to all: Our beliefs - more importantly, our core beliefs - control the life we lead. These core beliefs are the foundations on which our lives are built. Yes indeed - we are what are what our beliefs make us. These core beliefs create our experiences and determine our circumstances. Thus, shaping our destiny. We will explore, in this issue, the concept of the Power of Beliefs. I hope, you will gather insights on how to live our lives more effectively and enjoy the abundance and prosperity that life has to offer. Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body but rather sliding and tumbling and loudly proclaiming, Wow! What a ride. Step outside the comfort zone and be an active participant in life rather than a spectator in life. Rather than walk the well trodden path, travel along the road less travelled. With Best Wishes for an Empowering Lifestyle. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Empowering and disempowering beliefs We transform our lives and fulfill our dreams by changing our consciousness. We change our consciousness by changing our beliefs. We can design our lives the way we want it to be by changing our beliefs. The core beliefs determine how we perceive the world around us. We filter all our life experiences through our belief system. These inner beliefs influence the meaning we assign to the happenings in our lives. As a result of this process, some events are labeled as good and others are labeled as bad. Some situations are labeled as acceptable and others labeled as unacceptable. Through this process, we determine our emotional experience of life. Some of our beliefs, empower our lives. While others disempower our lives. The empowering beliefs are the keys that unlock the doors and free us to express the music in our hearts. The disempowering beliefs keep our spirit locked in and prevent us from
expressing our true potential. Our beliefs can either be like steel cables that support our lives or like steel chains that shackle our lives. How are beliefs formed? Where did our beliefs come from? How are beliefs formed? All the experiences we have had since birth have shaped our beliefs. It is not the experiences themselves but rather how we reacted and responded to those experiences. The interpretation of and the meanings we assigned to these experiences have contributed to the formation of our belief system. It is not the result of what happened or what is happening in our lives, but rather how we responded to those happenings in our lives. Certain opinions and ideas are presented to us by the people in our lives and the media and so on. What shapes our beliefs is whether we accept these opinions and ideas or reject them. Our belief system is formed as a result of our own input into the brain. We created our own beliefs. We are totally responsible for our present beliefs - both the empowering and disempowering ones. Two people can have the same experience and they can react and respond to it differently. Two people can be presented with the same ideas and they can interpret them differently. This difference in response to the experiences and the interpretation of the ideas shapes our beliefs. Our existing beliefs, then determine how we will respond to future experiences and interpret ideas in the future. One belief building on the other shapes the direction of our lives. Thus, our beliefs determine our destiny. Doesn't matter whether true or not; right or wrong It doesn't matter whether these beliefs are true or not. It doesn't matter whether these beliefs are right or wrong. It doesn't matter whether these beliefs are correct or incorrect. If we accept them as true, then they are true for us. It may not be true for someone else. Dr. Phineas Parkhurst Quimby said, "If we absolutely believe in something it will manifest in our lives, whether we are consciously thinking about it or not." S.I. Hayakawa, one of the leading thinkers of the last century, said, "There is nothing true or false about any set of beliefs but they are capable of becoming true to those who believe in them." Napoleon Hill in his all time best seller - Think and Grow Rich - writes, "What the mind of man can conceive and believe, man can achieve." Tony Robbins whose work is considered as the forefront of the human potential movement, writes in his best seller book - Personal Power - "The values and beliefs we hold within us are the controlling powers of our lives." Brain and the belief system Based on the numerous works of neuro-scientists of the caliber of Nobel Laureate, Karl Pribram and cutting edge work by eminent behavioral scientists, it is concluded that one of the primary functions of the brain is to prove that our current belief system is correct. Let me repeat: One of the primary functions of the brain is to prove that our current belief system is correct.
If we believe that we can't do something, then the brain will create situations, events, incidents and circumstances to ensure that we can't do what we said we can't do. On the other hand, if we believe that we can do something, then the brain will attract people, resources and create conditions, circumstances and whatever necessary to ensure that we can do what we said we can do. Henry Ford, the grand daddy of the auto industry, knew this truth at the beginning of the twentieth century, long before the present day findings on how the brain operates, when he said it eloquently, "If we believe we can and if we believe we can't, we are right both times." Here is an important and powerful concept, yet so subtle. The brain does not change the reality in the world around us. The world is - as it is. The mechanism at the gateway to the brain, referred to as the Reticular Activating System (RAS), filters the information out there in the world and allows only the information that is consistent with our values, beliefs, attitudes and expectations to pass through to be processed by the brain. This mechanism filters out the information that is not consistent with our beliefs. Will beliefs alone ensure the realization of our cherished dreams? Definitely not. Belief is a mysterious entity that sets up the necessary conditions that make health, happiness, success and prosperity possible. It is persistent action that ensures that our cherished dreams will become realities in our lives. However, action without belief is destined to failure. Belief without action is merely a wish. Action without belief is hard work and merely passes the time. Action combined with belief can make our dreams come true. Joel Barker Challenge to review our beliefs I want to encourage you to review and reflect on your belief system. Take an unbiased review of your core beliefs. I challenge you to question all your core beliefs. Recognize the beliefs that are empowering and supporting our lives. Capitalize on them Preserve them. Sharpen them. Refine them. Also identify those beliefs that are not supporting our lives; that are disempowering our lives. These are the limiting beliefs in our lives. They sabotage our efforts. They prevent our dreams and goals becoming realities. Replace such disempowering beliefs with beliefs that support, enhance and enrich our lives. It is extremely difficult to analyze our beliefs and recognize which are beneficial and which are harmful to our living. Most of the time, we have become so comfortable with these beliefs, over so many years of believing in them, that we do not recognize them
as controlling our lives either for the good or bad. Most of the time, we are either blind or ignorant of the beliefs that are controlling and directing our lives. Changing our beliefs is not as simple as changing our clothes. However, if we change our disempowering beliefs into empowering beliefs, it will be the most significant step we will be taking in designing our lives the way we want it to be. May you be empowered to do so. May you have the courage to challenge your core beliefs. May you be guided to implant empowering beliefs. In the words of Rene Descartes, one of the foremost thinkers of our civilization - "If you would be a real seeker after truth, it is necessary that at least once in your life you doubt, as far as possible, all things." The Person Who Believes He Can (Author Unknown) If you believe you're beaten, you are; If you think you dare not, you don't! If you'd like to win, but believe you can't, It's almost a cinch that you won't. If you believe you'll lose, you're lost; For out in the world we find Success begins with a fellow's will; It's all in the state of mind. If you believe you're outclassed, you are; You've got to think high to rise. You've got to be sure of yourself Before you can win the prize. Life's battles don't always go To the strongest of fastest person But sooner or late the person who wins Is the person who believes he or she can.
