For your prayers this week Collect for Sunday next before Lent Almighty Father, whose Son was revealed in majesty before he suffered death upon the cross: give us grace to perceive his glory, that we may be strengthened to suffer with him and be changed into his likeness, from glory to glory; who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Lilian Handford s funeral Lilian s funeral will be on Monday 19 th ruary at St Faith s at 12 noon. Music at the Parish Eucharist We try to vary the music at the Parish Eucharist across the different church seasons, to give colour to our worship. Our current order of service (for Epiphany and Sundays before Lent) ends this Sunday, and from the First Sunday of Lent (next week) we will be using the Lent order of service which has been in place at St Faith s for the last couple of years. We do hope you enjoy the variety of music at the Parish Eucharist, which is greatly enhanced by the contributions of the choir. If you have any feedback on our musical patterns, please do feel free to give it to Richard, Paul, Cliff or Rita! 3

Lent Course 2018 This Lent our Lent Course will be a 5-week course called The Long Road to Heaven, based on the film The Way, about a group of pilgrims walking The Way of St James to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. It s a great film, and promises to be an interesting Lent Course as well. There will be two opportunities to attend the Lent Course at St Faith s: Monday evenings 7.45-9.15pm Tuesday afternoons 1.30pm-3pm Both sessions will have the same content - you don t have to come to both! The course begins on Monday 19 th and Tuesday 20 th ruary, and you can sign up now on the Welcome Table in the church. Housegroups - If you d like to, you could run this course in your groups during Lent. Speak to Paul or Steve about this. There will be a small cost for this course, as the book costs around 6.50 per copy, but if that s a problem to you, please let Paul know. Screening of The Way As noted above, our Lent course is based on the film The Way. You don t have to have watched the film before attending the course, but it might help! To this end, we will be showing the film on Sunday 18 th ruary at 3pm at St Faith s. So we know how many seats to put out, please sign up on the welcome table, to let us know you re coming. The DVD will be available afterwards, if you d rather watch it in your own home! 4

Pledge day response A number of people have asked about the outcome of the Pledge Day we held in early December. We would love to be able to give you a final outcome at this time, but unfortunately we can t! Not everyone submitted pledge forms, and some people who didn t give in a form have increased their giving anyway, so right now we re unsure of the final response. Thank you to everyone who has increased their giving to St Faith s, whether you have told us or not! If you would like to increase your giving, information on the Parish Giving Scheme, and on giving by Standing Order, is available in the south porch. Please do continue to pray for the finances of St Faith s, and for God s provision for us. Parish Office news Our administrator, Andrew Munro, is in hospital at the moment; please do keep Andrew and Penny in your prayers at this time. While Andrew is unwell, the parish office will be staffed by volunteers. Thanks to everyone who is helping with this! Please do bear with us as we seek to keep the office going in Andrew s absence. The opening times will remain the same as much as possible: 1030-1230 each weekday, or call or email. Ash Wednesday - 14 th ruary There will be an Ash Wednesday Eucharist at St Faith s at 7.30pm on Wednesday 14 th ruary. This is a great opportunity to reflect on the themes of penitence and forgiveness at the start of Lent. (It s also Valentine s Day - but celebrating that will be cheaper another night, so why not come to the Ash Wednesday service instead?!) If you would like us to use last year s palm crosses to make the ash for Ash Wednesday, please place them in the basket on the Welcome Table by Tuesday evening! 5

Leading Your Church into Growth Local - 24 th ruary Last week, our PCC (Church Council) did the first part of Leading your Church into Growth (LYCIG) Local. This course aims to help us think about our own churches, and the kind of things we can do to help them flourish and grow. The PCC discussed: the types of growth there are: growth in numbers of people, growth in spiritual depth, and growth in servanthood How leadership functions in St Faith s How much (and whether) we want St Faith s to grow The next part of LYCIG Local is a day for the whole church community, on Saturday 24 th ruary, 9.30am-3.00pm. Please do put this date in your diary, and come along. We will be having a Bring and Share Lunch that day; tea and coffee will be provided. It would be great if as many people as possible were able to come to the LYCIG Local day on 24th ruary! It s a really stimulating and interesting course, and the more people who come along and give input, the better. For more information, please speak to Paul, Steve or Mary. Reading at Sunday services There are now sign-up sheets on the welcome table, for readers at the Parish Eucharist. If you would like to read, please do sign up. Fish and Chip Supper and Quiz Night - next Saturday There are just a few tickets left for the Quiz Night and Supper at 7.30pm next Saturday. 7 per person, choose from fish or sausage, teams of up to 6, bring your own drink. Tickets are on sale after the Parish Eucharist today, or (if there are any left!) from the Parish Office this week. 6
