Hymn Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing nettleton We gather in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen Confession and Forgiveness Silence for reflection Blessed be the holy Trinity, one God, who gathers us in our brokenness, binds together our shattered souls, and through Jesus Christ makes our fragmented lives whole. Amen In this time, let us be honest, confess our sin and receive God s promise of mercy and hope. We are guilty in your sight. We confess we often turn inward and deny your love toward others. Forgive the ways in which we fail to proclaim your Word, your love and your mercy. Creator, forgive us. Jesus, redeem us. Holy Spirit, heal us. 3
The Lord has called us in righteousness. Jesus is a light to the nations, opens the eyes of the blind and releases the prisoners. In the name of Jesus Christ all your sins are forgiven. By his wounds you have been healed. Thanks be to God! Amen The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. Prayer of the Day Almighty God, your Son, our Savior, suffered at human hands and endured the shame of the cross. Through his brokenness may we find wholeness. Grant that we may walk in the way of his cross and find it the way of life and peace, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and Holy Spirit, one God now and forever. Amen Anthem 10:30 My Soul Cries Out arr. Mark Hayes New Dimension Singers Lesson Isaiah 42:6-7 I am the Lord, I have called you in righteousness, I have taken you by the hand and kept you; I have given you as a covenant to the people, a light to the nations, to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, from the prison those who sit in darkness. 4 *** We welcome children to Dock Children s Education at this time.*** Ensure your child is wearing a nametag with name and grade level. Anthem Arise, My Soul, Arise Dan Forrest St. Andrew s Choir Arise, my soul, arise, shake off thy guilty fears: The bleeding sacrifice in my behalf appears: Before the throne my surety stands, My name is written on His hands. Five bleeding wounds He bears, received on Calvary, They pour effectual prayers, they strongly plead for me: Forgive him, O, forgive, they cry, Forgive him, O forgive, they cry. Nor let that ransomed sinner die. My God is reconciled; His pard ning voice I hear; He owns me for His child, I can no longer fear; With confidence I now draw nigh, with confidence I now draw nigh, And Father, Abba, Father, cry, Father, cry. Arise, my soul, arise! And Father, Abba, Father, cry. Arise, my soul, arise. Psalm 35:19-23 Do not let my treacherous enemies rejoice over me, or those who hate me without cause wink the eye. For they do not speak peace, but they conceive deceitful words against those who are quiet in the land. They open wide their mouths against me; they say, Aha, Aha, our eyes have seen it. You have seen, O Lord; do not be silent! O Lord, do not be far from me! Hymn Ah, Holy Jesus herzliebster jesu 5
Apostles Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen Holy Gospel Luke 23:1-5, 13-25 All (sung): Glory to you, O Lord. Then the assembly rose as a body and brought Jesus before Pilate. They began to accuse him, saying, We found this man perverting our nation, forbidding us to pay taxes to the emperor, and saying that he himself is the Messiah, a king. Then Pilate asked him, Are you the king of the Jews? He answered, You say so. Then Pilate said to the chief priests and the crowds, I find no basis for an accusation against this man. But they were insistent and said, He stirs up the people by teaching throughout all Judea, from Galilee where he began even to this place. 6 Pilate then called together the chief priests, the leaders, and the people, and said to them, You brought me this man as one who was perverting the people; and here I have examined him in your presence and have not found this man guilty of any of your charges against him. Neither has Herod, for he sent him back to us. Indeed, he has done nothing to deserve death. I will therefore have him flogged and release him. Then they all shouted out together, Away with this fellow! Release Barabbas for us! (This was a man who had been put in prison for an insurrection that had taken place in the city, and for murder.) Pilate, wanting to release Jesus, addressed them again; but they kept shouting, Crucify, crucify him! A third time he said to them, Why, what evil has he done? I have found in him no ground for the sentence of death; I will therefore have him flogged and then release him. But they kept urgently demanding with loud shouts that he should be crucified; and their voices prevailed. So Pilate gave his verdict
that their demand should be granted. He released the man they asked for, the one who had been put in prison for insurrection and murder, and he handed Jesus over as they wished. The Gospel of the Lord. All (sung): Praise to you, O Christ. Sermon The Rest of the Story Intern Pastor Erin Morris Offering Ich ruf zu dir, Herr Jesu Christ (I Call to Thee), BWV 639 J. S. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever.
