78 COMMUNION IN ORDINARY CIRCUMSTANCES B [236] All-powerful God, we thank you for the nourishment you give us through your holy gift. Pour out your Spirit upon us and in the strength of this food from heaven keep us single-minded in your service. We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord. r Amen. C All-powerful and ever-living God, may the body and blood of Christ your Son be for our brother / sister N. a lasting remedy for body and soul. We ask this through Christ our Lord. r Amen. [57] CONCLUDING RITE BLESSING [58] 91 The priest or deacon blesses the sick person and the others present, using one of the following blessings. If, however, any of the blessed sacrament remains, he may bless the sick person by making a sign of the cross with the blessed sacrament, in silence.

104 ANOINTING OUTSIDE MASS LITURGY OF THE WORD READING [72,89] 119 The word of God is proclaimed by one of those present or by the priest. An appropriate reading from Part III or one of the following readings may be used: A [207] = A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew 11:25-30 Childlike confidence in the goodness of God will bring us the rest that only Jesus can give. On one occasion Jesus spoke thus: Father, Lord of heaven and earth, to you I offer praise; for what you have hidden from the learned and the clever you have revealed to the merest children. Father, it is true. You have graciously willed it so. Everything has been given over to me by my Father. No one knows the Son but the Father, and no one knows the Father but the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him. Come to me, all you who are weary and find life burdensome, and I will refresh you. Take my yoke upon your shoulders and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart.your souls will find rest, for my yoke is easy and my burden light. The Gospel of the Lord.

ANOINTING WITHIN MASS INTRODUCTORY RITES RECEPTION OF THE SICK [92] 135 After the greeting the priest welcomes the sick in these or similar words: A We have come together to celebrate the sacraments of anointing and eucharist. Christ is always present when we gather in his name; today we welcome him especially as physician and healer. We pray that the sick may be restored to health by the gift of his mercy and made whole in his fullness. B Christ taught his disciples to be a community of love. In praying together, in sharing all things, and in caring for the sick, they recalled his words: Insofar as you did this to one of these, you did it to me. We gather today to witness to this teaching and to pray in the name of Jesus the healer that the sick may be restored to health. Through this eucharist and anointing we invoke his healing power. 4 125

292 READINGS FROM SACRED SCRIPTURE but when things are in heaven, who can search them out? Or who ever knew your counsel, except you had given Wisdom and sent your holy spirit from on high? And thus were the paths of those on earth made straight, and men learned what was your pleasure, and were saved by Wisdom. The Word of the Lord. G A reading from the Book [159] of the Prophet Isaiah 35:1-10 Strengthen the feeble hands. The desert and the parched land will exult; the steppe will rejoice and bloom. They will bloom with abundant flowers, and rejoice with joyful song. The glory of Lebanon will be given to them, the splendor of Cannel and Sharon; They will see the glory of the Lord, the splendor of our God. Strengthen the hands that are feeble, make firm the knees that are weak, Say to those whose hearts are frightened: Be strong, fear not! Here is your God, he comes with vindication; With divine recompense he comes to save you.
