... FAITH IS OF THINGS UNSEEN AND HOPE OF WHAT IS NOT HAD. THOMAS AQUINAS, DISPUTED QUESTIONS ON VIRTUE, 5, 3.

TRANSFORM YOUR MIND & HEART True religion is free enough to ask challenging questions. It is an invitation to discover the fullness of reality and a meaningful direction for our lives. Saint Anselm sums up this quest as faith seeking understanding. Who is God? Who is Jesus Christ? What is a faithful Christian life in our century? Christian faith has a language, a set of reasons supporting the life and message of the Church. The Church has always encouraged believers to pursue these questions so they may be able to clearly communicate what they believe and to act charitably with careful discernment. At DUC, students are initiated into this rich tradition of thoughtprovoking faith. They learn the methods for carefully refl ecting on Jesus Christ, God and the Church. They take on the spirit of Augustine, Aquinas, and other infl uential Christian thinkers a humble inquisitiveness that shares and teaches the profound wisdom of God. If the Gospel is a liberating message, then Christians need to question theologies that restrict the joy and freedom that should be part of a full human life. Theological study at DUC is pursued in a spirit of freedom; asking important questions leads to greater truth. Equipped with a coherent understanding of the faith, you will be able to help open space in the Church and in society where people can live the fullness of their humanity in faithfulness to God and the Church.

BUILD A STRONG FOUNDATION DISCOVER THE REASONS FOR YOUR FAITH LEARN TO LIVE THE GOSPEL IN A COMPLEX WORLD BACHELOR IN THEOLOGY The Bachelor in Theology aims to provide an overall vision of the Christian tradition. Spread over three years, it involves three major themes: 1) God and the human being; 2) Jesus Christ and Christian existence; and 3) the Church and Christian commitment. The general objective of this program is to foster critical thinking and to provide a basic theological culture. GAIN A BALANCED AND MATURE PERSPECTIVE DEVELOP CRITICAL AND CREATIVE THINKING DOUBLE MAJOR: PHILOSOPHY AND THEOLOGY The Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Philosophy and in Theology is a four-year program aimed at students seeking a solid basis in Philosophy and in Theology, two disciplines which reveal the foundational ideas of Western culture. The general objective of the program is to provide extensive knowledge of philosophical arguments and a good background in theological issues.

We gave students the tools to do a good job... whatever job they choose... the tools, principles and methods. As for their future, I was always telling them: Choose what you like. It s your freedom. Choose a good career in order to serve the country according to your aptitudes. Please be free. Never call me Master. I do not want to have disciples. Choose your career and do what you like...you will find those graduates in every field. Georges-Henri Lévesque o.p. Former DUC professor, Companion of the Order of Canada (CBC Archives, July 24, 1972) THE DUC ADVANTAGE The Dominican tradition is unique. For 800 years, Dominicans have been questioning our culture, laying foundations for human rights, advocating for ecclesial and civil reform, standing with the outcast and teaching thousands of students to do the same. By teaching philosophy, theology and ethics, we provide space for students to engage with ancient and modern thinkers so that they may become aware of our Western tradition and may be able to creatively propose solutions where others see only the status quo. At DUC in Ottawa, we carry on the same tradition. Our goal is to welcome students looking for deeper purpose to their education and their lives. At DUC, you will experience a demanding education, a supportive environment, and a tradition that fosters a wellrounded life.

APPLYING TO DUC DUC is proud of its diverse student body. We enjoy meeting and discussing education options with students from a variety of faiths, backgrounds, and cultures. Our application process, like our education, is personalized. We consider the background and diverse experiences of our applicants not just their grades.
