H e r i t a g e Herald October 14, 2018 THIS WEEK: Dear Friends and Members, Last Sunday was the church s Annual Hayride and Picnic. It was held at Applegate Orchard on a beautiful fall day. It had rained most of the week, but on Sunday afternoon we had some sun, but mostly cloud cover, to keep the heat off of us on an already warm day. We had a number of visitors and plenty of food. The fellowship was wonderful. Again this year we had to run three wagons full of people. The firewood to keep the church and parsonage warm this winter is cut, split, and in the shed. We appreciate all the men and boys who worked on the firewood detail this year. It is one of the biggest jobs the church is involved in. It is hard work and many hands and equipment helps get it done in a timely way. 1 A Biblical Note for the Discerning Person: Proverbs 16:27 - An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his lips there is as a burning fire. 1 UPCOMING EVENTS Nov 9 - Nov 11 - BBC Fall Lecture Series (CT) HBC Hunters Harvest Dinner a newsletter from Heritage Baptist Church 5923 State Route 17C Endicott, NY 13760 607-786-9496 Visit Our Website for more information and archived Heralds www.heritagebaptistchurch.info or email the pastor hbc5923@stny.rr.com S e rv i c e T i m e s Sunday School - Sunday Morning - Sunday Evening - Wednesday midweek - 10 am 11 am 6 pm 7 pm

for the discerning Not the Outward Adornment Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. 1 Peter 3:3-4 Peter sets up a stark contrast here in this portion of his letter to believers: whose adorning let it not be But let it be Our purpose in life is to glorify God and to turn attention to Him. Yet we ourselves love to have the attention of those around us. We dress to impress. We, both men and women, tend to measure ourselves and others by externals. We should always present ourselves in a manner that pleases the Lord and that does not draw undue attention to ourselves. Peter is addressing the wives here in context of winning a husband who has been contrary to the word of God. The carnal tendency of women is to win men with physical attraction. In this pursuit, they get carried away with hair, jewelry and clothing, and deeper into altering their bodies with cosmetics, chemicals, and even surgery. Ladies learn to love the attention and power they get from revealing and embellishing themselves. This carnal way to win men is harmful to men and puts a woman in danger of sexual abuse. This sin is not just out there in the world, but has a stronghold in churches as well. Rather than be content with that which God has given, the devil has taught women to covet that which others have and to be unsatisfied with the way God made them. Older women desperately prop up, paint up, and alter themselves to try to look 18 forever. Those with straight hair want curly, and those with curly want straight. Toxic chemicals are used to alter hair color and to tighten aging skin. MonthlyMemoryVerse the LORD hath done great things The LORD hath done great things for us; whereof we are glad. Psalm 126:3 Has Satan stolen your contentment and shifted your attention and that of others away from God? Has the prince of darkness made you a stumbling block to the men around you? Are you attracting dangerous attention with your embellishments? But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. -Brad Baldwin Notable Historic QUOTE: All growth depends upon activity. from the P U L P I T Message by Dr. Caswell A. Reeves The Walk That Imitates Christ Ephesians 5:1-7 The New Testament saint is given the ability and privilege to have a walk that imitates Christ Jesus. This walk helps us reveal the Gospel of Christ. In this book we note the characteristics of this walk. I. It is a walk with love toward others (vs. 2) II. It is a walk with purity (vs. 3) III. It is a walk with thanksgiving (vs. 4) IV. It is a walk with discernment (vs. 6) V. It is a walk with separation (vs. 7) Does your walk imitate Christ? Can others see Christ in your walk and in you? 6 Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage forever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart. Psalm 119:111 5
