THE ANGLICAN PARISH OF ST STEPHEN AND ST MARY MOUNT WAVERLEY WELCOME Trinity Sunday 22 May 2016 Christian Unity Ecumenical Celebrations Sacrament of Unity The Eucharist is the sacrament of unity. It makes us into one body. The apostle Paul writes: "As there is one loaf, so we, although there are many of us, are one single body, for we all share in the one loaf" (1 Corinthians 10:17). The Eucharist is much more than a place where we celebrate our unity in Christ. The Eucharist creates this unity. By eating from the same bread and drinking from the same cup, we become the body of Christ present in the world. Just as Christ becomes really present to us in the breaking of the bread, we become really present to one another as brothers and sisters of Christ, members of the same body. Thus the Eucharist not only signifies unity but also creates it. Henri Nouwen

At Worship Today Prayer of the Day: Father, we praise you, that through your Word and Holy Spirit you created all things; you reveal your salvation in all the world through Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh; through your Holy Spirit you give us a share in your life and love: fill us with the vision of your glory, that we may always serve and praise you, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen 7.45 am (BCP) Book of Common Prayer Presiding:Dianne Preaching: Dianne Hymn 132 10.30 am Contemporary Eucharist Presiding: Kate Preaching: Dianne The Sanctuary bell will be rung 5 minutes before the service begins to observe a time of quiet. 9.00 am A Prayer Book for Australia - page 119 Presiding at the Eucharist: Revd Kate Musical Setting: Holy Communion - Michael Dudman Introit: Hymn 132 Sentence: Christ Jesus came and preached to you all: Through him we have access in the one Spirit to the Father. First Reading: Proverbs 8.1-4, 22-31 Gradual Response: Gradual: Psalm 8 Second Reading: Romans 5.1-5 Gospel Sentence: Gospel: John 16.12-15 Offertory: Hymn 447 Sermon: Revd Dianne Motet: Bread of Heaven Text: Josiah Condor, Music: Robert Jones Recessional: Hymn 453 People of all Christian Churches, who are communicant members of their own church, are invited to share Holy Communion with us.

First Reading: Proverbs 8.1-4, 22-31 8.1 Does not wisdom call, and does not understanding raise her voice? 2 On the heights, beside the way, at the crossroads she takes her stand; 3 beside the gates in front of the town, at the entrance of the portals she cries out: 4 To you, O people, I call, and my cry is to all that live. 22 The Lord created me at the beginning of his work, the first of his acts of long ago. 23 Ages ago I was set up, at the first, before the beginning of the earth. 24 When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no springs abounding with water. 25 Before the mountains had been shaped, before the hills, I was brought forth 26 when he had not yet made earth and fields, or the world s first bits of soil. 27 When he established the heavens, I was there, when he drew a circle on the face of the deep, 28 when he made firm the skies above, when he established the fountains of the deep, 29 when he assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters might not transgress his command, when he marked out the foundations of the earth, 30 then I was beside him, like a master worker; and I was daily his delight, rejoicing before him always, 31 rejoicing in his inhabited world and delighting in the human race. Second Reading: Romans 5.1-5 5. 1 Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. 3 And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not disappoint us, because God s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us. Gospel: John 16.12-15 12 I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14 He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 15 All that the Father has is mine. For this reason I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 17 th Christian Unity Ecumenical Celebrations Trinity Sunday, 22 May 2016 Today we celebrate the Sunday for Christian Unity which the Inter Church Council has arranged an Ecumenical Exchange.
