The Twenty-second Sunday after Pentecost The Holy Eucharist THE LITURGY OF THE WORD Processional Hymn Praise to the Lord, the Almighty Joachim Neander, Catherine Winkworth Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation O my soul, praise Him, for He is thy health and salvation All ye who hear, now to His temple draw near Join me in glad adoration Praise to the Lord, Who o er all things so wondrously reigneth Shieldeth thee under His wings, yea, so gently sustaineth Hast thou not seen how thy desires have been Granted in what He ordaineth Praise to the Lord, Who doth prosper thy work and defend thee Surely His goodness and mercy here daily attend thee Ponder anew what the Almighty can do If with His love He befriend thee Praise to the Lord, O let all that is in me adore Him All that hath life and breath, come now with praises before Him Let the Amen sound from His people again Gladly forever adore Him Blessed be God, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit And blessed be his kingdom, now and forever. Amen. Collect for Purity (in unison) Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your Holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen. The Summary of the Law Jesus said: you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets. Matthew 22:37-40 Kyrie Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.

Song of Praise Sing praise to God who reigns above CCLI#: 42988 Collect The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Let us pray. Almighty and everlasting God, in Christ you have revealed your glory among the nations: Preserve the works of your mercy, that your Church throughout the world may persevere with steadfast faith in the confession of your Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. First Reading (all be seated) Genesis 32:22-31 Jacob got up at night and took his two wives, his two maids, and his eleven children, and crossed the ford of the Jabbok. He took them and sent them across the stream, and likewise everything that he had. Jacob was left alone; and a man wrestled with him until daybreak. When the man saw that he did not prevail against Jacob, he struck him on the hip socket; and Jacob s hip was put out of joint as he wrestled with him. Then he said, Let me go, for the day is breaking. But Jacob said, I will not let you go, unless you bless me. So he said to him, What is your name? And he said, Jacob. Then the man said, You shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with humans, and have prevailed. Then Jacob asked him, Please tell me your name. But he said, Why is it that you ask my name? And there he blessed him. So Jacob called

the place Peniel, saying, For I have seen God face to face, and yet my life is preserved. The sun rose upon him as he passed Penuel, limping because of his hip. Reader: The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. The Gradual (all remain seated) Psalm 121:1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 Response: (Cantor sings once, then all sing) Verses: (Cantor sings Verse, then all sing Response) I lift up my eyes toward the mountains; Whence shall help come to me? My help is from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth. (Response) May he not suffer your foot to slip; May he slumber not who guards you: Indeed he neither slumbers nor sleeps, The guardian of Israel. (Response) The LORD is your guardian; the LORD is your shade; He is beside you at your right hand. The sun shall not harm you by day, Nor the moon by night. (Response) The LORD will guard you from all evil; He will guard your life. The LORD will guard your coming and your going, Both now and forever. (Response) Sequence (all stand) Speak O Lord (verse 1) Getty, Townend; CCLI: 4615235 Speak, O Lord, as we come to You to receive the food of Your holy word. Take Your truth, plant it deep in us; Shape and fashion us in Your likeness,

Deacon: that the light of Christ might be seen today in our acts of love and our deeds of faith. Speak, O Lord, and fulfill in us all Your purposes for Your glory. The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke. Glory to you, Lord Christ. Holy Gospel Luke 18:1-8 Jesus told the disciples a parable about their need to pray always and not to lose heart. He said, In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor had respect for people. In that city there was a widow who kept coming to him and saying, Grant me justice against my opponent. For a while he refused; but later he said to himself, Though I have no fear of God and no respect for anyone, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will grant her justice, so that she may not wear me out by continually coming. And the Lord said, Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God grant justice to his chosen ones who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long in helping them? I tell you, he will quickly grant justice to them. And yet, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth? Deacon: The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Christ. Sequence Speak O Lord (verse 3) Getty, Townend; CCLI: 4615235 Sermon (all be seated) Speak, O Lord, and renew our minds; Help us grasp the height of your plans for us. Truths unchanged from the dawn of time, that will echo down through eternity. And by grace we ll stand on your promises; And by faith we ll walk as You walk with us. Speak, O Lord, till your church is built And the earth is filled with Your glory. Nicene Creed (all stand and recite in unison) We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, visible and invisible. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father,

God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father [and the Son], who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. Prayers of the People (all kneel) The Celebrant says: Let us pray for the Church and for the world, saying, Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer. For the peace of the whole world, and for the well-being and unity of the people of God, let us pray to the Lord. Reader: Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer. For our Archbishops, Justin and Foley, our Bishop, Keith and for our clergy and the faithful staff of our church, and for all the clergy and people of our diocese and congregation, let us pray to the Lord. Reader: Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer. For all those who proclaim the Gospel at home and abroad; and for all who teach and disciple others, let us pray to the Lord Reader: Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer.

For our brothers and sisters in Christ who are persecuted for their faith, let us pray to the Lord. Reader: Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer. For our nation, for those in authority and for all in public service especially Barack, our President and the members of Congress and our judges let us pray to the Lord. Reader: Lord, in your mercy, Hear our prayer. For all those who are in trouble, sorrow, need, sickness, or any other adversity especially the members of the military serving here and abroad, let us pray to the Lord. Reader: Please add your own petitions Reader: Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer. For all the blessings of this life let us thank the Lord. Reader: Please add your own thanksgivings Reader: Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer. For all those who departed this life in the certain hope of the resurrection, in thanksgiving let us pray to the Lord. Reader: Lord, in your mercy. Hear our prayer. The Celebrant concludes with the following prayer: Heavenly Father, grant these our prayers for Jesus Christ s sake, our only Mediator and Advocate, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen. Confession Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen. Absolution Peace (all stand) The Peace of the Lord be always with you. And with your spirit. Announcements (all be seated)

THE HOLY COMMUNION Offertory Into Your Mercy Presentation Hymn (all stand) Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise him, all creatures here below; Praise him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen Sursum Corda The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is just and right so to do. Old One Hundredth It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. Through Jesus Christ our Lord; who on the first day of the week overcame death and the grave, and by his glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name. Sanctus et Benedictus Words: Traditional Music: Justin Philip Brooks, Tiffany Brooks

The Prayer of Consecration (all kneel) Almighty God, our heavenly Father, in your tender mercy, you gave your only Son Jesus Christ to suffer death upon the cross for our redemption. He offered himself and made, once for all time, a perfect and sufficient sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. He instituted this remembrance of his passion and death, which he commanded us to continue until he comes again. So now, Father, we ask you to bless and sanctify, with your Word and Holy Spirit, these gifts of bread and wine that we may partake of his most blessed Body and Blood. On the night that he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take, eat; this is my Body which is given for you: Do this in remembrance of me. After supper, Jesus took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, Drink this, all of you; for this is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you, and for many, for the forgiveness of sins: Whenever you drink it, do this in remembrance of me. Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. Lord and heavenly Father, with these holy gifts we celebrate the memorial instituted by your beloved Son, remembering his passion and death, his resurrection and ascension, and his promise to come again. Grant that by his merits and death, and through faith in his Blood, we and your whole Church may receive forgiveness of our sins and all other benefits of his passion, making us one body with him that he may dwell in us, and we in him. And here we offer to you, O Lord, ourselves, our souls and bodies, to be a living sacrifice, through Jesus Christ our Lord. By him and with him and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and forever. Amen.

The Lord s Prayer BCP p. 336 Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen. The Fraction Alleluia. Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us. Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia. Prayer of Humble Access (in unison) We do not presume to come to this your table, merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in your abundant and great mercies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under your table. But you are the same Lord, who always delights in showing mercy. Grant us, therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of your dear Son Jesus Christ and to drink his blood, that our sinful bodies may be made clean by his body, and our souls washed through his most precious blood, and that we may evermore dwell in him, and he in us. Amen. Communion All baptized Christians who profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are welcome to receive Holy Communion in this church. All who do not wish to receive are still welcome to come forward to the altar rail. You may cross your arms across your chest as an indication you do not wish to receive, and a prayer of blessing will be offered for you instead. Gluten-free wafers are available. If you would like to receive a gluten-free wafer, simply ask the priest when he comes to you at the communion rail. Congregational Hymns Before the Throne of God Above Charitie L. Bancroft, Vikki Cook; CCLI: 2306412 Before the throne of God above I have a strong and perfect plea, a great High Priest whose name is Love who ever lives and pleads for me. My name is graven on His hands, my name is written on His heart; I know that while in heav n He stands no tongue can bid me thence depart, no tongue can bid me thence depart. When Satan tempts me to despair, and tells me of the guilt within, upward I look and see Him there, who made an end to all my sin. One with Himself I cannot die, my soul is purchased with His blood; My life is hid with Christ on high, with Christ, my Savior and my God, with Christ, my Savior and my God.

Behold Him there, the risen Lamb, my perfect spotless Righteousness; The great unchangeable I AM, the King of glory and of grace! Because the sinless Savior died, my sinful soul is counted free; For God the Just is satisfied to look on Him and pardon me, to look on Him and pardon me. Because the sinless Savior died, my sinful soul is counted free; For God the Just is satisfied to look on Him and pardon me, to look on Him and pardon me. There Is A Redeemer Words & Music by Melody Green; CCLI: 11483 Post Communion Prayer (in unison) Heavenly Father, we thank you for feeding us with the spiritual food of the most precious body and blood of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ: and for assuring us in these holy mysteries that we are living members of the body of your Son, and heirs of your eternal Kingdom. And now Father, send us out into the world to do the work you have given us to do, to love and serve you as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and forever. Amen. The Blessing The peace of God, which passes all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God and of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord; and the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be upon you and remain with you for ever. Amen. Recessional Hymn Love divine, all loves excelling Hymnal 657 Dismissal Let us go forth into the world, rejoicing in the power of the Spirit. Thanks be to God. Alleluia.
