First United Methodist Church of Trenton A family of God, through the love of Jesus Christ: Reaching Up, Reaching Out, Embracing Everyone! Welcome, we are glad that you have chosen to worship with us today. We would like you to know that: Nursery services are available upon request. The nursery is located on the second floor. An asterisk (*) located before an event means that we invite you to rise in body or in spirit. You are invited to join us for refreshments in the lounge after the service. The pastor is available to meet with you to answer any questions or address any concerns about the church you might have, and for pastoral counseling or conversation, and visits. We hope to see you again! November 4, 2018 10:00 am

Words of Reflection "The most important one (commandment), answered Jesus, "is this: 'Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these." NIV Words of Welcome/Announcements: Prelude Pastor Heidi Reinker Organist/pianist Jeff Burke Call to Worship: Responsive Reading of Psalm 146 Leader: Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul! People: I will praise the Lord as long as I live; I will sing the praises to my God while I have being. Leader: Put not your trust in princes, in mortals, in whom there is no help. People: Their breath departs, they return to the earth; on that very day their plans perish. Leader: Happy are those whose help is in the God of Jacob, People: whose hope is in the Lord, their God, Leader: who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them; People: who keeps faith for ever; who executes justice for the oppressed; who gives food to the hungry. Leader: The Lord sets the prisoners free; People: the Lord opens the eyes of the blind. Leader: The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; People: the Lord loves the righteous. Leader: The Lord watches over the foreigners People: and upholds the widow and the orphan; but the Lord brings the way of the wicked to ruin. Leader: The Lord will reign for ever, your God, O Zion, from generation to generation. All: Praise the Lord! *Opening Hymn "Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above" # 126 Opening Prayer: We have entered your sanctuary, O God, where there are memories of saints, messages of peace, imperatives of prophets; where death is overcome by resurrection, and the pain of living turned into redemption; where sin is erased by grace, arrogance overcome by humility, and despair replaced with hope. We are here, and you are waiting for us to receive these gifts. Make it possible during our time together to move closer to you and your will. Amen. -2-

Gospel Lesson: Mark 12:28-34 Response to the Gospel Lesson Leader: This is the word of God for the people of God, for which people say: People: Thanks be to God! Amen. Prayers of the People What joys or concerns do you want to take to God in prayer? Do you have a story to share as to how God has worked in your life recently? Pastoral Prayer leading into the Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. The Epistle Lesson- Hebrews 9:11-14 *Hymn "The Gift of Love # 408 Sermon Reflections on Love Rev. Heidi Reinker *Hymn "For the Healing of the Nations" # 428 Presentation of our Tithes and Offerings Offering Prayer Offertory Music *Doxology Praise God, from whom all blessings flow, # 95 Praise him; all creatures here below; Praise him above; ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen Sacrament of Holy Communion (Everyone is welcome to the Lord's table who seeks to know and love the Lord, you do not have to be a member of this denomination or congregation. The ushers will direct you to the front, and you can take a piece of bread and a small cup of grape juice. You may pray at the altar rail after receiving the elements, if you so desire.) -3-

*Benediction It is our tradition to form a circle around the perimeter of the church after the benediction to sing Let There Be Peace on Earth while holding hands. If you are uncomfortable with this, you may proceed directly to the fellowship hall for refreshments! Closing Hymn Let There Be Peace on Earth # 431 Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me; Let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be. With God our Creator, children all are we. Let us walk with each other in perfect harmony. Let peace begin with me; let this be the moment now. With every step I take, let this be my solemn vow: To take each moment and live each moment in peace eternally. Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me. *Postlude Everyone is invited to the fellowship hall for refreshments and a time of fellowship.
