C: And also with you. Prayer of the Day L: Let us pray...o Lord God, enliven and preserve your church with perpetual mercy. Without your help, we mortals will fail; remove far from us everything that is harmful, and lead us toward all that gives life and salvation, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. First Reading: Job 33: 1-6 R: A reading from Job But now, hear my speech, O Job, and listen to all my words. See, I open my mouth; the tongue in my mouth speaks. My words declare the uprightness of my heart, and what my lips know they speak sincerely. The spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life. Answer me, if you can; set your words in order before me; take your stand. See, before God I am as you are; I too was formed from a piece of clay. R: The Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. Psalm 51:10-14 (read responsively) A: Create in me a clean heart, O God, C: and renew a right spirit within me. A: Cast me not away from your presence, C: and take not your Holy Spirit, from me A: Restore to me the joy of your salvation C: and sustain me with your bountiful Spirit. A: Let me teach your ways to offenders, C: and sinners shall be restored to you A: Rescue me from bloodshed, O God of my salvation, C: and my tongue shall sing of your righteousness. 10 3

Second Reading: Romans 8:2-9 R: A reading from Romans. 2 For the law of the Spirit * of life in Christ Jesus has set you * free from the law of sin and of death. 3 For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do: by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and to deal with sin, * he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 so that the just requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. * 5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit * set their minds on the things of the Spirit. * 6 To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit * is life and peace. 7 For this reason the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God s law indeed it cannot, 8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.9 But you are not in the flesh; you are in the Spirit, * since the Spirit of God dwells in you. Gospel Acclamation R: The Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. Prayer after Communion A: Holy and Compassionate God, in bread and wine you give us gifts that form us to be humble and courageous. May your words come to life in our serving and in our witness, that we might speak a living voice of healing and justice to all the world. Through Jesus Christ our rock and or redeemer. Blessing L: God, Creator of all things, speaking to reformation into being; Jesus Christ, Savior of the world, raising the dead; Holy Spirit, living voice, calling and enlightening the church; Almighty God, Father, + Son and Holy Spirit bless you now and forever. Lord s Prayer (Youth Style) P: O God in heaven, God and Father of everyone: C: Your name is holy. We treat your name lovingly, not swearing or deceiving others. God s will come. God s wanting to be done. God s way of wanting all to be done in the way he wants. May there be no difference between Heaven and Earth. Give us what we need, our daily necessities. Help us give what we don t need to our neighbor. Forgive us our sins, and strengthen us to forgive others when they hurt us. Do not lead us into doing something bad, and take us away from evil. For everything is yours-you own everything!! We pray this to happen right now, right here, and the rest of eternal life. Amen. Let it be done! P: Speak to us, O Lord, in the breaking of the bread, and make us one with you. Holy Communion As a member of the ELCA, Faith United celebrates open communion. All those who wish to receive the grace found in Christ are welcome to come forward to the table to share in communion. Following the usher s guidance, please come forward down the center aisle, and receive an individual cup. There are two chalices (pouring cups); the first contains wine and the second grape juice. When you have received the bread and wine (or juice), return to your pew via the side aisle. Children and others who do not wish to receive communion are welcome to come forward for a blessing. If you have not yet filled out a communion card this year please take the time to do that today. Music During Distribution: Quiet Music Post-Communion Blessing P: The body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ strengthen you and keep you in his grace. 8 flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be astonished that I said to you, You must be born from above. The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit. A: The Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to you, O Christ. Children s Sermon Hymn of the Day: ELW #459 Wade in the Water Apostle s Creed A: Following Christ to the cross, we boldly confess our faith. C: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Joys and Concerns Prayers of the Church A: Open to the gifts of the Holy Spirit, we pray for the church, the world, and all God s creation. (brief silence) A: We pray for the church universal.
