PRELUDE In the Presence of Jehovah with Like a River Glorious Arr. Tom Fetke Betty Heggemeyer WELCOME Please stand CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS P: Blessed be the holy Trinity, one God, who calls us into an everlasting hope, who guides us to springs of the water of life, who enlightens us with the spirit of wisdom. C: Amen P: One with the communion of saints in all times and places, let us confess our sin against God and one another. Silence for reflection and self-examination. P: O God, our merciful redeemer, C: We confess the ways we live only for ourselves. We fail to see you in our neighbor s face. We turn our ears from voices that cry out. We pass by the hungry and the oppressed. In your great mercy, forgive our sin and strengthen us for service to all in need; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen P: In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for you, and for his sake, God forgives you all your sin. Blessed are you! Rejoice and be glad, beloved people of God. C: Amen 2

GREETING P: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. C: And also with you. KYRIE 4

PRAYER OF THE DAY L: Let us pray, O God of Justice and love, you illumine our way through life with the words of your Son. Give us the light we need, and awaken us to the needs of others, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. C: Amen Please be seated WORD A Reading from 1 Thessalonians L: Brothers and sisters, we don't want you to be ignorant concerning those who are now asleep in order that you would not grieve as the rest also grieve who don't have hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and arose, so also we believe that God will bring through Jesus those who passed away. For we tell you this by a word of the Lord that we ourselves who are living, who are remaining until the Lord's coming, will definitely not proceed those who are asleep. Because the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a shouted command, with an archangel's voice, and with a trumpet, and the dead in Christ will be raised first; then we ourselves who are remaining at the same time will be snatched up along with them in clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And in this way we will always be with the Lord. So comfort each other with these words. (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18) L: Word of God. Word of Life. C: Thanks be to God. 8:45 ANTHEM Surely the Presence of the Lord is in This Place, Lanny Wolfe, arr. Charles F. Brown Chancel Choir 5

Please stand for the Gospel Acclamation P: A Reading from St. Matthew C: Glory to you, O Lord P: 1 Then the kingdom of heaven will be like this. Ten bridesmaids took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. 3 When the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them; 4 but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. 5 As the bridegroom was delayed, all of them became drowsy and slept. 6 But at midnight there was a shout, 'Look! Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.' 7 Then all those bridesmaids got up and trimmed their lamps. 8 The foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' 9 But the wise replied, 'No! there will not be enough for you and for us; you had better go to the dealers and buy some for yourselves.' 10 And while they went to buy it, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went with him into the wedding banquet; and the door was shut. 11 Later the other bridesmaids came also, saying, 'Lord, lord, open to us.' 12 But he replied, 'Truly I tell you, I do not know you.' 13 Keep awake therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour. (Matthew 25:1-13) 6

APOSTLES CREED I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION P: Welcoming God s reign of righteousness and mercy, let us pray with people of every time and place. (At the conclusion of each prayer) L: Lord, in your mercy, C: hear our prayer. P: Receive these prayers and the hopes and concerns of our hearts, O God, as we entrust into your loving care all for whom we pray, through Jesus Christ our Lord. C: Amen. EXCHANGE OF PEACE P: The peace of Christ be with you always. C: And also with you. We greet one another in the name of the Lord using words such as, Peace be with you. 9

OFFERTORY PRAYER L: Creator God, You made everything, and you provide for every need. The bread we break and the wine we pour come from you. As we eat and drink with thanksgiving, fill us with your love; let that love flow through us to others; and join us to the saints before us in a holy and boundless communion; through Jesus Christ our Lord. C: Amen. THE GREAT THANKSGIVING P: The Lord be with you. C: And also with you. P: Lift up your hearts. C: We lift them to the Lord. P: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. C: It is right to give our thanks and praise. PREFACE: P: It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks and praise to you, almighty and merciful God, through our Savior Jesus Christ. By the witness of your saints you show us the hope of our calling, and strengthen us to run the race set before us, that we may delight in your mercy and rejoice with them in glory. And so, with all the saints, with the choirs of angels and all the hosts of heaven, we praise your name and join their unending hymn: 11

SANCTUS WORDS OF INSTITUTION P: Blessed are you, Lord of heaven and earth. In mercy for our fallen world you gave your only Son, that all those who believe in him should not perish, but have eternal life. We give thanks to you for the salvation you have prepared for us through Jesus Christ. Send now your Holy Spirit into our hearts, that we may receive our Lord with a living faith as he comes to us in his holy supper. C: Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. 12

P: In the night in which he was betrayed our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me. THE LORD S PRAYER P: Lord, remember us in your kingdom and teach us to pray: C: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen INVITATION TO COMMUNION P: Speak to us, O Lord, in the breaking of the bread, and make us one with you.
