A New Option... Online Giving is now available at Crosswinds. Wednesday Bible Study More and more people are moving away from writing checks, so Crosswinds is providing another option for giving. Donations can be given online at crosswindspc.com! The process is simple. All that is needed is basic checking account information. Debit or credit cards can also be used. Donors can make a one time gift or setup recurring donations, and designate their gifts to specific ministries of Crosswinds. Look for this link On Crosswindspc.com During the month of May, the Wednesday Bible Study will be using the series, Being Presbyterian. Each week includes a short video to help us understand what it means to call ourselves Presbyterians. To be Presbyterian is to join a way of life informed by a particular rhythm: God calls us in grace and love; we respond in gratitude. May 14 is Mother s Day. Honor your mother; go to church with her!
Message from Michael Just this morning I got the recording of the ProMusica performance at Carnegie Hall. It is for educational purposes only, so I can t share it with you. I wish I could, because the music was really moving. One of the numbers was a Mass. Often when we hear the word mass we think of a Roman Catholic worship service. A mass is also a sacred musical composition, and usually includes a prayer, Kyrie (Christ Have Mercy), a song of praise, Gloria, a statement of faith, Credo (I believe), a doxology proclaiming the trinity, Sanctus and Benedictus (Hosanna in the Highest), and a piece remembering the atoning death of Jesus, Agnus Dei (Lamb of God). Often they are sung in Latin. What was unusual about this mass was that it was all bluegrass. It incorporated the traditional elements of the classical mass, both in English and Latin, with American songs such as Do Lord and What Wondrous Love is This. The joint choir was accompanied by string bass, mandolin, 2 guitars, banjo and fiddle. All professional musicians, two of them were recent Grammy Award winners. I never imagined I would be on stage with such musicianship. Put that together with an internationally known choral director, perform at Carnegie Hall, and it was an unbelievably moving experience. To be honest, I wasn t thrilled with the idea of the trip nine months ago. I wasn t that interested in singing, and I thought it would be way too expensive. Fortunately, the rest of the family convinced me to participate, and it is an experience I will never forget. Thank you for your encouragement and support for the trip. If you ever get a chance to hear Come Away to the Skies a High Lonesome Mass, by Tim Sharp & Wes Ramsey, I encourage you to attend. Even though it won t be same if it isn t in Carnegie Hall. Michael Dear Friends, We hardly know where to begin! How does one adequately express appreciation for such an unexpected, generous gift as what you gave our family for our trip to New York? Thank you so very, very much! The money made the entire event less stressful and more enjoyable in so many ways. For instance, trying to decide on which museum to visit? Your gift meant we could visit all three, and they were wonderful. Plus, we didn t have to stress over restaurant prices or lost Metrocards. But best of all, when Thomas saw Come From Away and told us how we had to see it, we were able to buy tickets. (By the way, the show is nominated for several Tony s and if you want to know our opinion, it should win!) Again, thank you so much for your generous gift. It was a true blessing. Christi, Michael, Thomas & Robin Church Secretary Crosswinds is looking for a part time church secretary to work about 12-15 hours a week. Good communication, computer and proofing skills are needed. Accounting Skills The Administrative team is need of someone with some basic accounting tools to assist them and the treasurer in their work. See DeEtta for more information. Yard Sale Bob Cunningham is having a yard sale the mornings of Friday & Saturday, May 12 & 13, in preparation of selling his house. He could use some help! If available please contact him.
Property Update At the beginning of the year we mentioned a number of projects to be done at the church. They haven t been forgotten, and are in the works. Here is where the projects stand currently: Small Office Part of the plan when creating the new offices last year was the addition of a small office behind the sanctuary. The office will give people dealing with finances a private, quiet place to work. We were hoping to do this project ourselves, but we are now investigating hiring someone. The Defibrillator The defibrillator is a lifesaving device easily usable in the absence of medical personnel in the event of cardiac arrest. Hopefully you will never need it, but if you do, know where it is! The defibrillator is on the east side of the fellowship area, next to the entry to the restrooms. Presbytery Grant Over a year ago, Crosswinds applied for a grant to purchase portable dividers for Family Promise, replace the flooring in the fellowship area, and install some artificial grass next to the patio. The grant was approved last August, and we received the funds in January. The dividers were purchased and used during Family Promise last month. We are planning on having the flooring done in June or early July. May Birthdays Alyssa Ihling Anita McCoy Mark Carlberg Byron Conrad Nita Campbell Cammy Coffer Kandace James June Birthdays Kaylee McGurthy Joshua Ihling Bill Wesp Ed Krysl Kate Eastburn Jesse Blair Juanita Kuester Kailee Evers Since our original estimates were given to us over a year ago, we are holding off on the grass in case there are any unexpected cost differences than anticipated. Sanctuary Carpet As part of the 2017 Building Campaign, additional gifts were given in hopes to put new carpet in the sanctuary. We have spoken to one company and are waiting for their proposal. We will also get a proposal from one or two other companies before making a final decision. Thank you for your generosity and patience in seeing these projects through. New Communion Table Cloth Crosswinds has a beautiful tablecloth to cover the communion table when the church celebrates the Lord s Supper. Thank you Kathy Jennings for this gift to the church. In Memory Your prayers Judy Cunningham Judy passed away on Friday, April 21. Please keep her husband, Bob, in your prayers.

Spotlight on Mission: We Care Packets Throughout the year, the congregation collects white socks, washcloths, toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs, tissues, shampoo, soap, and other toiletry items, that are then put in packets and sent to shelters for the needy and homeless of Phoenix. The Lend-A-Hand group coordinates this activity, including assembling the packets and conducting fund raisers to purchase additional items. The packets are assembled every Veterans Day, November 11. Don t use the hotel shampoos, lotions, etc.? These items are great for the We Care Packets. Crosswinds Presbyterian Church 20125 N 15th Ave Phoenix, Arizona 85027
