From the Vicarage FROM REVD TERRY DYER PRIEST IN CHARGE The March Hare : a sign of new life of spring approaching but also a sign of strange behaviour motivated by love. This year the period of Lent runs right through the month of March. And the challenge for Lent was to take on something new in the service of our God how s it going? For many of us we started with good intentions, but now have relaxed and slipped, and need to make a new commitment. Lent is the period in the Church year when we remember Jesus time in the desert, tempted to take the easy way out, and to look to similarities in our own life : To look after our physical needs and desires rather than our spiritual welfare and our relationship with God. To be noticed for our actions rather than giving God the glory. To compromise following earthly standards to fit in with other people rather than God s leading, whatever the cost. In other words Lent is a time to truly look at our own life and how much we are committed to God rather than our own desires. The March Hare a sign of new life and the activity stimulated by love. This Lent consider what signs we as individuals, and as a church, show of the new life in Christ. As spring approaches and we see signs of new life, prayerfully consider how we demonstrate God s love for through our own love of other people, the world and of God himself. God s love is shown in both sacrifice and in creation. Terry
