f or HUNGER 500 Years on the MOVE Activity Log Name 150 Days Pentecost Sunday, June 4 to Reformation Day, October 31 1517 2017 Augustana Lutheran Church An ELCA World Hunger, Rocky Mountain Synod, and Augustana Lutheran Church activity to raise awareness and contributions to support the work of ELCA World Hunger during this 500th anniversary of the Reformation. 5000 E. Alameda Ave. Denver, CO 80246 303-388-4678 www.augustanadenver.org

How to use this log book Use it for personal incentive! For each date you are active, write in your activity, the number of miles moved and the amount of money pledged. If you walk, bike or run, count your miles; if you swim, exercise, pray for others, meditate, or volunteer, convert your time to miles (1 mile for every 15 minutes). You may record more than just one type of activity be both a physical and spiritual mover! You may solicit monies to support your efforts or you may donate personally. Keep track of pledges from family and friends on the last page of this log. Contribution Estimates If you are active over the full 150 days and average 1 mile/day, here is the total at different levels of giving. $0.10/mile = $15 $0.25/mile = $37.50 $0.50/mile = $75 $1.00/mile = $150 How to become a Reformation Hunger Opponent The Augustana Foundation has agreed to recognize the top two individuals or teams completing the most miles during the 150 days by donating $1,517 each ($3,034 total) to ELCA World Hunger. Obviously, the more people on your team, the more total miles and the better chance at this special recognition, so round up your friends and family and encourage them to join you. How to register Though you can participate as an individual, we encourage you to form or join a team for support to reach your movement goals. If you want to be a part of a team and don t know who to ask, call Julie MacDougall in Augustana s office (303-388-4678), and we will find a team for you to join. Turn in your weekly miles/hours electronically at http:/bit.ly/2p497mu. Or, on Sundays you may fill out the slip in the bulletin with your name and team name (if in a team) along with your miles and/or hours. Quotes in this log, unless otherwise noted, are found in The Forgotten Luther: Reclaiming the Social-Economic Dimension of the Reformation edited by Carter Lindberg and Paul Wee. 2016. Lutheran University Press, Minneapolis, and are cited FL, page number. Quotes are intended to inform, challenge, and inspire.

June 4 Day of Pentecost and Day 1 of 150-day Reformation Celebration Move for Hunger June 5 June 6 June 7 June 8 Let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us. (Hebrews 12:1b) June 9 June 10 Jodi s 1 mi or 5K Run/walk at City Park to aid CO Ovarian Cancer Alliance: www.jodisrace.org Poverty, I say, is not to be recommended, chosen, or taught; for there is always enough of that by itself, as He says (John 12:8): The poor you always have with you, just as you will have all other evils. But constant care should be taken that, since these evils are always in evidence, they are always opposed. (Luther, FL) June 11 Have you formed a team yet or set a goal? Turned in your miles/hours? June 12

June 13 You are off to a good start. Keep it up! June 14 ELCA World Hunger is effective because it works in partnership with local organizations/churches. June 15 June 16 June 17 Note: You may make your contribution monthly or weekly or wait until you have completed your 150 days of Move for Hunger. Be sure to indicate ELCA World Hunger with your check, envelope, or online gift. June 18 June 19 Your funds help soup kitchens, pay-what-you-can restaurants, food pantries, and meal programs. June 20 June 21 Pray. Fast. Act. in solidarity with hungry people at the invitation of both presiding bishops of the ELCA and Episcopal Church. Why and how to Pray/Fast/Act? www.elca.org/prayfastact

June 22 Matthew 6:1 4 is why we only ask you to turn in a record of your miles, not your donation amount. June 23 June 24 ELCA World Hunger funds also support Lutheran Disaster Response and Immigration and Refugee Services. For so to help a man that he does not need to become a beggar is just as much of a good work and a virtue as to give alms to a man who has already become a beggar. (Luther, FL) June 25 June 26 June 27 Augsburg Confession presented in 1530 June 28 June 29 June 30 First month done. Good job!

July 1 Your gifts to ELCA World Hunger/Good Gifts not only provide relief, but help lift families out of the poverty cycle by providing the materials necessary to develop self-sufficiency. July 2 July 3 July 4 Independence Day: Pray for those serving our nation as leaders or servants. July 5 July 6 Read Matthew 6:19 21. Reflect on the difference between wants and needs. How much is enough? July 7 July 8 From Luther s Small Catechism: Give us this day our daily bread. What does this mean? In fact, God gives daily bread without our prayer, even to all evil people, but we ask this prayer that God causes us to recognize what our daily bread is and to receive it with thanksgiving.

July 9 Read Luke 10:25 37. When you see someone in need, what makes it hard to stop and help? July 10 July 11 ELCA World Hunger works in nearly 60 countries around the world including the United States. July 12 July 13 July 14 July 15 2016 Domestic Hunger Grants included organizations within the Rocky Mountain Synod in Pueblo, Alamosa, Avondale, Westminster, Loveland, and Albuquerque, NM. July 16 July 17

July 18 July 19 ELCA Good Gifts not only provides farm animals, but also education to raise and market surpluses. July 20 July 21 Pray. Fast. Act. in solidarity with hungry people at the invitation of both presiding bishops of the ELCA and Episcopal Church. Why and how to Pray/Fast/Act? www.elca.org/prayfastact July 22 What then does daily bread mean? Everything included in the necessities and nourishment for our bodies, such as food, drink, clothing, shoes, house, farm, fields, livestock, money, property, an upright spouse, upright children, upright members of the household, upright and faithful rulers, good government, good weather, peace, health, decency, honor, good friends faithful neighbors, and the like. July 23 July 24 ELCA Good Gifts recipients often pay it forward, helping their neighbors to succeed. July 25

July 26 When Jordan and UNHCR developed a refugee camp for fleeing Syrians, they chose LWR to operate it. July 27 July 28 July 29 God makes love to our neighbor an obligation equal to love to himself. (Luther, FL) July 30 Visit http://www.elca.org/en/our-work/relief-and-development/elca-world-hunger. July 31 Two months down! Keep up the good work! August 1 August 2 Pray for neighbors who are in countries fighting a civil war, such as Sudan and Central African Republic. August 3 August 4

August 5 Jesus fed 5000 with five loaves and two fish. What can he do with your donation? From the beginning of the Reformation, untold pastors and preachers labored to instill the elementary mandate to love our neighbor through addressing systemic issues of justice and welfare. (Carter Lindberg, FL, 24) August 6 August 7 August 8 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. (Matthew 5:6) August 9 August 10 August 11 If your miles have been running/biking/walking, today earn miles praying or in meditation. August 12

August 13 August 14 August 15 Keep baggies with nutritious snacks in your car to give to those begging on street corners. August 16 August 17 August 18 August 19 August 20 August 21 Pray. Fast. August 22 August 23 August 24 August 25 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:21) August 26 From Luther s Small Catechism: The Fifth Commandment: You shall not murder. What does this mean? We are to fear and love God, so that we neither endanger nor harm the lives of our neighbors, but instead help and support them in all of life s needs (bold added for emphasis). August 27 August 28 August 29 Posada in Pueblo, CO, received $3K to support the needs of families in temporary shelter.
