E ast U ni o n B apt i st C hur c h Man has the weather turned hot. How is that for stating the obvious? I am reminded of several spiritual things by the hot weather. One is that Jesus told us to either be hot or cold not lukewarm. Remember what the Bible says in Revelation 3:15-16 HCSB 15 I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish that you were cold or hot. 16 So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I am going to vomit you out of My mouth. He was talking to the church at Laodicea but to us as well. So the question we all must continually ask is, Am I on fire spiritually or have I allow discouragements to make me lukewarm. Have I become lukewarm in my bible study, church attendance, my prayer life and other things? The next thing that I think of when it is this hot it how much hotter it will be for those who end up in Hell. We, in our modern progressive thoughts, do not like to think about a loving God sending anyone to Hell. In one sense God is not going to send anyone to Hell they are going there themselves. He has done everything He can to make sure men do not have to pay the penalty for their own sin in Hell. Three times in Mark 9 we have the words, Mark 9:44 KJV Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. I know this is not the normal newsletter article but I want to encourage us to be busy loving people out of hell and the heat and into Christ and heaven. I think some of the most powerful and challenges verse there are in the Bible is in Jude 1:22-23 NASB And have mercy on some, who are doubting; 23 save others, snatching them out of the fire; and on some have mercy with fear, hating even the garment polluted by the flesh.
