THIRD SUNDAY IN LENT MARCH 23 AND 24, 2019 Welcome to Christ The King Lutheran Church. God has always asked His children to be part of the world in which they live. Throughout history, Christians have always been in their community and not apart from it. In fact, when people separate themselves for religious reasons, that s when things can go sideways. We live in the world, but we are not of the world. God bless our worship today. Pastor Jason Cashmer THE BELLS + + + + + + + + + THE WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS THE CALL TO WORSHIP How Deep the Father s Love for Us All My Hope Chancel Choir Praise Band THE OPENING HYMN O Bless the Lord, My Soul LSB #814 1. O bless the Lord, my soul! Let all within me join And aid my tongue to bless His name whose favors are divine. 2. O bless the Lord, my soul, nor let His mercies lie Forgotten in unthankfulness and without praises die! 3. Tis He forgives thy sins; tis He relieves thy pain; Tis He that heals thy sicknesses and makes thee young again. 4. He crowns thy life with love when ransomed from the grave; He that redeemed my soul from hell hath sov reign pow r to save. Blessed Be Your Name Blessed be Your name in the land that is plentiful. Where Your streams of abundance flow, blessed be Your name. And blessed be Your name when I m found in the desert place. Though I walk through the wilderness, blessed be Your name.

Pre-Chorus: Every blessing You pour out I ll turn back to praise, And when the darkness closes in, Lord, still I will say; Chorus: Bridge: Blessed be the name of the Lord, blessed be Your name Blessed be the name of the Lord, blessed be Your glorious name Blessed be Your name when the sun s shining down on me. When the world s all as it should be, blessed be Your name. And blessed be Your name on the road marked with suffering. Though there s pain in the offering, blessed be Your name. THE SONG RESPONSE Create in Me LSB p. 192 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from Thy presence, and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation; and uphold me with Thy free spirit. Amen. Jesus, Draw Me Close Jesus, draw me close, closer, Lord, to You. Let the world around me fade away. Jesus, draw me close, closer, Lord, to You. For I desire to worship and obey. Jesus, draw me close, closer to Your cross. There You chose so humbly to obey. Jesus, draw me close, closer to Your cross. For on that hill You took my sins away. For on that hill You took my sins away. THE SCRIPTURE READINGS Ezekiel 33:7-11 1 Corinthians 10:1-13 Luke 13:1-9 THE APOSTLES CREED I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. THE SONG RESPONSE Sunday 9:00 a.m. (No response Saturday 5:00 p.m. and ) May We Thy Precepts, Lord, Fulfill LSB #698 1. May we Thy precepts, Lord, fulfill and do on earth our Father s will As angels do above; still walk in Christ, the living way, With all Thy children and obey the law of Christian love. 2. So may we join Thy name to bless, Thy grace adore, Thy pow r confess, From sin and strife to flee. One is our calling, one our name, The end of all our hopes the same, a crown of life with Thee.

3. Spirit of life, of love and peace, unite our hearts, our joy increase, Thy gracious help supply. To each of us the blessing give In Christian fellowship to live, in joyful hope to die. When I was sinking down, sinking down, sinking down, When I was sinking down, sinking down, When I was sinking down beneath God s righteous frown, Christ laid aside His crown for my soul, for my soul, Christ laid aside His crown for my soul.

Ezekiel 33:7-11 7 So you, son of man, I have made a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me. 8 If I say to the wicked, O wicked one, you shall surely die, and you do not speak to warn the wicked to turn from his way, that wicked person shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand. 9 But if you warn the wicked to turn from his way, and he does not turn from his way, that person shall die in his iniquity, but you will have delivered your soul. 10 And you, son of man, say to the house of Israel, Thus have you said: Surely our transgressions and our sins are upon us, and we rot away because of them. How then can we live? 11 Say to them, As I live, declares the LORD GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live; turn back, turn back from your evil ways, for why will you die, O house of Israel? 1 Corinthians 10:1-13 1 For I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, 2 and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, 3 and all ate the same spiritual food, 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ. 5 Nevertheless, with most of them God was not pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness. 6 Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as they did. 7 Do not be idolaters as some of them were; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play. 8 We must not indulge in sexual immorality as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in a single day. 9 We must not put Christ to the test, as some of them did and were destroyed by serpents, 10 nor grumble, as some of them did and were destroyed by the Destroyer. 11 Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come. 12 Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall. 13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. Luke 13:1-9 1 There were some present at that very time who told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2 And he answered them, Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered in this way? 3 No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. 4 Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them: do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who lived in Jerusalem? 5 No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. 6 And he told this parable: A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and

found none. 7 And he said to the vinedresser, Look, for three years now I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and I find none. Cut it down. Why should it use up the ground? 8 And he answered him, Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and put on manure. 9 Then if it should bear fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down.
