Prana Pratishtha In the contemporary world, idols and concrete images continue as extremely useful forms for devotees to express their devoutness and connect to God at the spiritual and emotional realm. However, an idol by itself is believed to be a mere piece of art depicting a form of God. The idol is believed to transform into a figure of godliness only after it successfully undergoes the process of Prana Pratishtha. Prana means universal life force. Pratishtha, used in connection with an idol or murti means "the consecration of an idol or image." Thus, Prana Pratishtha refers to infusing life force into an idol. The process is accomplished by performing a sanctified ceremony in accordance with prescribed religious procedures. About Sanatan Mandir With a rich and unique history, the Sanatan Mandir is located in historic Tampa Heights. More than one hundred years ago, this historic site was established as a Jewish Temple. In 1989, it became a Hindu Temple. The two buildings on this site have been purchased by the Rattan Family and donated to be used as a Hindu temple. The main temple building was later demolished, and the smaller of the two buildings is currently used as the main Temple. The founding family has since then purchased and donated land immediately to the East, West and South side of the temple. The Sanatan Mandir is very unique in its location. To the best of our knowledge, this is the only temple in the entire USA to be within approximately one mile of the city center and the mayor's office, as though destiny had meant our temple to be at the center of the city's activities. Further, Sanatan Mandir is less than a mile from the main bus station and 5 mile away from Tampa International Airport. A lot has changed in Tampa through more than 25 years of the temple's existence, but one fundamental has remained the same - it has remained a place of worship for more than a century, a vision of the founders of Hindu Samaj Inc. We are committed to keeping it the same way for all generations to come. The Temple is also blessed with 3 Sacred Trees to allow devotees to worship - the Neem Tree grown from the seeds from the Holy Tree in Shirdi, Bilva Tree and Peepal Tree.

Explanation of Religious rituals Kutir Havan: Shanti Paushtik or Kutir Havan to remove any impurity that might have remained in the idol due to impurity in stone, earth, constellation, work of sculptor etc. It is done to bring peace from all calamities. Shobha Yatra (Kalash) Yatra: Shobha Yatra is the procession in city's main places around the temple, chanting and playing devotional musical instruments, with idols of Gods and Goddesses. It is an invaluable opportunity for every man, woman, and child to receive blessings from the Lord. Jaladhivaas: Done for the testing of Murtis (Idols) to check if any faults are left by sand, raw stones, holes, and attachments used in making of them. This hydrates the Murtis (idols) and the place is blessed against drought or flood. Arni Manthan: An ancient special and unique Vedic Tradition of invoking FIRE by churning two pieces of wood (ARNI). Dhanyadhivaas: Dhanya means grain. This instills the earth element into the idol. In this Adhivaas, the idols are kept in grains overnight to assure that the food reserves always remain filled with grains. Mandap Vastu: Mandap Vaastu is the set-up of the main canopy (tent) where all religious ceremonies take place. Blessings from Vastu Devata (the Lord of Land and Temple Building) is requested to grant us permission to perform religious ceremonies in the tent. Dikshu Havan: Dikshu Havan is offered to 10 directional Gods. Snapan Vidhan Kumbh Abhishekam: Abhishekam for all deities with consecrated water from 108 auspicious Kalash signifies the purification process. Faladhivaas: This involves offering of fruits to get blessings for success in every good deed. Dhoopadhivaas: This adds air (wind) element in the idol. Dhoopa (incense) purifies the surrounding atmosphere and protects against calamities like natural disasters. Gandhadhivaas: This involves the offering of the aromatic paste sandalwood paste to spread calmness and fragrance in the universe. Pushpadhivaas: This involves the offering of flowers, which increases the recognition of the venue to the people of the community. Shikhar Dwaja Dand Aarohan: This involves the placement of the Sanatan Dharma flag on the temple's rooftop (Shikhar).
