NATIVITY OF THE THEOTOKOS PREFEAST OF THE Exaltation of the cross September 9, 2012 TROPAR Of the Theotokos: Your birth has filled all the universe with joy, O virgin Mother of God, for from you arose the glorious Sun of righteousness, Christ, our God. He destroyed the age-old curse and replaced it with a blessing. For having conquered death, he gives us everlasting life TROPAR-Prefeast of the Cross Notwithstanding our unworthiness, you gifted us, Lord, with the life-giving cross as a sign of your goodness. We now bring to you that same cross and pray; save our country and your people who make their supplications to you through the Theotokos, O one and only true lover of all people. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. KONDAK Of the Theotokos: Your holy Birth, most pure one, delivered Joachim and Anne from the shame of childlessness, and freed Adam and Eve from the corruption of death. And so we, your people, freed from the guilt of sin, celebrate this as we cry out: a seemingly barren woman gives birth to the Mother of God, who nourishes our life. Now and forever and ever. Amen KONDAK- Prefeast of the cross The tree of salvation appears today out of the depths of the earth. It is reverently carried on high into the church by the bishop. With awe the universe devoutly honors the cross, through which, we pray, save us, O Lord. PROKIMEN Save your people and bless, O Lord, your inheritance VERSE: To you I will cry, O Lord my God, lest you turn away from me in silence. A reading from St. Paul's Epistle to the Galatians (6:11-18) Brethren, see with what large letters I have written to you with my own hand! As many as desire to make a good showing in the flesh, these would compel you to be circumcised, only that they may not suffer persecution for the cross of Christ. For not even those who are circumcised keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may boast in your flesh. But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whomthe world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision

avails anything, but a new creation. And as many as walk according to this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God. From now on let no one trouble me, for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus. Brethren, the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen. ALLELUIA - (3). I have exalted one chosen from the people, and with my holy oil I have anointed him. Alleluia (3). For my hand shall support him, and my arm will strengthen him. Alleluia. (3). Gospel of John 3:13-17 No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven the Son of Man. Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Instead of it is truly: Extol, my soul, the Virgin Mary born of a barren woman. Irmos: Strange indeed it would be if mothers were to retain physical virginity, and just as strange for virgins in childbearing to know maternity. But in you, O Mother of God, wondrously we find both maternity and virginity. And so, together with all peoples of the earth, we extol you unceasingly. COMMUNION VERSE - Praise the Lord from the heavens; praise Him in the highest. Alleluia (3). Parents have very little time for each other, and in the home begins the disruption of peace of the world. -Mother Teresa
