Missions Month Step Up, Step Out! September was Missions Month, and it saw a diverse range of speakers sharing with us God s heart for missions. From Aldersgate Methodist Church s very own Rev Teresa Wilborn to invited speakers such as Mr Kenneth Bong and Rev Dr Norman Wong, the church was reminded that we were to arise and step out in faith to reach the world for Jesus. In the middle of Missions Month, Mr Tan Soo Inn s message of the need to integrate work, worship and rest was a vital reminder of what was needed to be involved in missions for the long haul. Church members were also able to purchase books from Methodist Missions Society and Operation Mobilisation, and also indicate their interest in upcoming church missions trips. Indeed it was a fruitful month of hearing God s Word, and being convicted to go forth to make disciples of all nations. 3

40 Days of Prayer by Pr Wendy Chiang 1 Jul 9 Aug 2018 One divine call from God united people across Singapore from different churches, ministries and ages to gather for prayer in solemn assembly. Over 40 days, different anchors led AMC to worship and seek God s face for the welfare of our church and nation. As two, three and more gathered in Jesus name, we experienced God s tangible presence in meaningful and powerful ways. And we learned how to pray by praying together. Here are some photos of the action. To God be the glory! 5

Parental Involvement in Children s Ministry 2 Sep One of the aims of the Children s Ministry is to involve parents in the ministry to children. At the 8.30am session, Mr Jeffrey Er, father of Jarrett and Kaleb, shared the Word with the children. The topic was Refocus. He shared four interesting ways for the children to refocus their attention on God. TG CG led in the 10.30am session. Prayer Ministry by Ms Denise Lim ENCOUNTER WITH GOD THAT BRINGS CHANGE 18 Sep Rev Dr Amos Jayarathnam shared on encounters with God that bring change. When we encounter God, our lives will change and we learn to trust Him with all our heart and lean not on our own understanding. He emphasised that our inner being, which is our spirit, must be trained to discern what God is saying to us. Our mind, emotions and circumstances can be hindrances to our hearing the voice of God clearly. We must get into position to encounter God. Rev Dr Amos ended with saying that even if we do not encounter God and walk closely with Him, we may still be able to operate the gift but we operate outside the will of God. Thirty seven people attended the talk. Many were blessed and were prayed for by Rev Dr Amos. 11

Young Adults by Ms Cindy Ling Knowing and Fulfilling Your Kingdom Assignments 21 & 28 Jul With Rev Henson s dynamic teaching, we learnt about what it means to live as citizens of God s kingdom. Every citizen of God s kingdom is a soldier who cannot always remain in the assembly area, resting and recharging. A soldier needs to be awakened, aligned and assigned. Participants began evaluating if we were still asleep or have awakened. If awakened, we need to check if we are aligned with God. Soldiers only need to be alert and remain aligned, waiting on God for our assignments. The teaching was clear and easy to understand, leaving participants with much to reflect. 13
Youthphoria by Mr Christopher Chng Youth Alpha 15 July - ongoing Youthphoria started running the Youth Alpha programme, on the 15th of July. The goals are to refresh the youths on the basics and foundations of the faith and to invite their friends who are interested to find out more about Jesus. We have run 5 sessions and it has been an interesting time to engage with the video content, talk and hear about the questions that our youths have about the faith. We fellowship over lunch and a session of basketball afterwards. If you know of any youth who would be interested to join us, please invite them for the next session on the 7th October, Sunday. We start with lunch at 12.30pm. A video session follows starting at 1.30pm. Please contact Joel Tan or Christopher Chng for more information. 14
3 G's of Tithing You GET to tithe Tithing is not something you ought to do or have to do it is something you get to do. Instead of thinking of tithing as an obligation, change your mindset and look at it as a way to joyfully acknowledge God s provision over the resources He has asked you to steward. Joyful generosity is a gift. Tithing is a GOOD DISCIPLINE Tithing develops our spiritual discipline of giving. Just start and trust God. The Bible talks about the discipline of being faithful with little, so that you will later be faithful with much. The goal of tithing is to establish the financial priority of putting God first and honouring Him as the giver of all good gifts. Tithing is an act of GRATITUDE Tithing cultivates a heart of gratitude as we remember and give thanks to God for His provision in our lives. We learn to live under His Provision and be constantly thankful for His blessings in our lives.
