Day 4 (26/5/16) مي رحبهللا هللا م سا هللا م س ب ال ق لوب أمراض The Sicknesses of the Heart The Sicknesses of the Heart are ugly when they appear on the outside. Where do we get sicknesses of the heart? We are either born with them or adopt them. You can identify the sicknesses of the heart with children easily. They don't have knowledge so their sicknesses appear easily. And this easy detection is a good thing, because it's easier to reform them when they're younger through Qal Allah and Qal Ar-Rasool. Why do we have sicknesses? As a test. How do we adopt a sickness? We catch it from other people. Sometimes a mother is a cause of making her children jealous of another because she praises one, compares between the two, etc. You're putting the insects in their hearts. Everything you see and hear fills your heart and initiates the sickness. -> When you don't take the means of curing a sickness, it will attract other sicknesses and increase - just like how insects quickly reproduce. E.g. A small child gets attached to people. If you don't teach your child that it's wrong, it'll start with attachment to the mother, then the teacher, then the husband, etc.

-> Allah didn't leave us without exposing our sicknesses to ourselves. He shows us our sicknesses through the situations we go through. The person who knows this won't accuse others. -> You can't extract all the sicknesses of the heart completely, because they're all feelings. All our emotions revolve around our sicknesses (and are useful in helping detect them). This is where we require Taqwa. We have to cover these sicknesses and not react to the feeling, while at the same time taking actions which oppose it. E.g. ال ح سد - Jealousy You realize you have this sickness. You need to prevent yourself from reacting to the feeling with Qal Allah and Qal Ar-Rasool; such as: In [4:54]: "Or do they envy men (Muhammad ﷺ and his followers) for what Allah has given them of His Bounty? Then We had already given the family of Ibrahim the Book and Al-Hikmah (As-Sunnah - Divine Inspiration to those Prophets not written in the form of a book), and conferred upon them a great kingdom." And he ﷺ said: ""ال يؤمن أحدكم حتى يحب ألخيه ما يحب لنفسه "No one of you shall become a true believer until he desires for his brother what he desires for himself". [Agreed upon] And he ﷺ said:

And bring out examples of people who were jealous from the Qur'an and Sunnah, and ponder over what happened to them (E.g. The Story of Iblis, of the Sons of Adam, etc). And make دعاء for the person, praise, thank Allah. E.g. ال ك بر - Pride As soon as you perceive this sickness, you close the curtain and work on yourself, remind yourself of the following: The Prophet ﷺ said: ""ال ي د خ ل ال ج ن ة م ن ك ان ف ي ق ل ب ه م ث ق ال ذ ر ة م ن ك ب ر "He who has in his heart the weight of a mustard seed of pride shall not enter Paradise." [Muslim] In [16:29]: "So enter the gates of Hell, to abide therein, and indeed, what an evil abode will be for the arrogant." And then you open the curtain, and take an action against the pride, whether it's cleaning the bathroom, etc. -> If you leave sicknesses without curing them they'll keep accumulating until your heart dies. And when your heart is dead no admonition will affect you.

-> And sicknesses disable a heart. Because the purpose of your heart is to love + magnify Allah. The sicknesses affect your good deeds. A sick person can't exercise like a healthy person can. -> You can't cure the sicknesses with fake or incorrect medicine. You need to.ال ر سول ق ال و هللا ق ال go back to the original source - to And you keep doing this until you have a pure heart. In [26:88-89]: "The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail," "Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart" -> If you have a sickness, don't expose yourself to things which will increase it. We have to take care of the sicknesses of our heart more than we take care of the sicknesses of our body.

We need to learn about: 1) The Sickness 2) Their Cure Before we identify each sickness individually, we're going to identify Sick Characters in the Qur'an: 1) Iblis The evil in your heart becomes apparent during situations. Through dealing with people we learn about ourselves. Iblis looked good; he would pray and worship Allah. But Allah knew what was in his heart. In [7:11-22]: "And surely, We created you (your father Adam) and then gave you shape (the noble shape of a human being), then We told the angels, "Prostrate to Adam", and they prostrated, except Iblis (Satan), he refused to be of those who prostrate."

ال سالم ع ل يه Allah gave Iblis a command -> To Prostrate to Adam And this wasn't an act of worship to Adam سالم ع ل يه.ال And we go through this in life. We have to report to others, etc. What happened? He didn't submit to the command. How was this lack of submission shown? He didn't prostrate What did he say? In Verse 12: "(Allah) said: "What prevented you (O Iblis) that you did not prostrate, when I commanded you?" Iblis said: "I am better than him (Adam), You created me from fire, and him You created from clay." In Verse 13:

"(Allah) said: "(O Iblis) get down from this (Paradise), it is not for you to be arrogant here. Get out, for you are of those humiliated and disgraced." This teaches that ال ت ك بر is equivalent to praising yourself, ascribing purity to yourself, comparing yourself to others, looking down upon them, etc. As a punishment Allah disgraced him and brought him down, completely opposite to what he was seeking. Then in Verse 16 and 17: "(Iblis) said: "Because You have sent me astray, surely I will sit in wait against them (human beings) on Your Straight Path." "Then I will come to them from before them and behind them, from their right and from their left, and You will not find most of them as thankful ones (i.e. they will not be dutiful to You)." He blamed Allah. Accusing others is another sickness. Sometimes we may have a problem with one person, but declare war against everyone. We generalize. And it wasn't Adam سالم ع ل يه s 'ال fault. It was Allah's decree to bring out his sickness. And the Shaytans goal is to make people ungrateful to Allah.

In Verses 19 and 20: "And O Adam! Dwell you and your wife in Paradise, and eat thereof as you both wish, but approach not this tree otherwise you both will be of the Zalimun (unjust and wrong-doers)." "Then Shaitan (Satan) whispered suggestions to them both in order to uncover that which was hidden from them of their private parts (before); he said: "Your Lord did not forbid you this tree save you should become angels or become of the immortals." Allah brings the guidance. What does Shaytan do? سوس" "و He whispers What is his mission? He wants them to be naked. And Allah says in [7:26]:

"O Children of Adam! We have bestowed raiment upon you to cover yourselves (screen your private parts, etc.) and as an adornment, and the raiment of righteousness, that is better. Such are among the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allah, that they may remember (i.e. leave falsehood and follow truth)." He wants to remove the clothing of Taqwa; for us to follow our desires - so everyone knows you're jealous, proud, etc. He wants to expose your faults. So he pushes your buttons until you react. We don't want people to see our faults. So don't even look around into other.عورات people houses or spy. Everyone has What was Adam s sickness? He wanted to be like an Angel and live forever. What did Shaytan do? And in Verse 21: "And he [Shaitan (Satan)] swore by Allah to them both (saying): "Verily, I am one of the sincere well-wishers for you both." If someone gives advice they don't need to convince you that they're an advisor. But Iblis needed to do that. So someone who argues, advertises himself, pushes other people's buttons to reveal their mistakes, is proud, jealous, is imitating the Shaytan. In [15:30-40]: "So, the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together."

"Except Iblis (Satan), - he refused to be among the prostrators." "(Allah) said: "O Iblis (Satan)! What is your reason for not being among the prostrators?" "[Iblis (Satan)] said: "I am not the one to prostrate myself to a human being, whom You created from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud." It's as if he's saying it's not his standard. This is Pride. In Verses 39 and 40: "[Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Because you misled me, I shall indeed adorn the path of error for them (mankind) on the earth, and I shall mislead them all" The Shaytan beautifies the sins for us. "Except Your chosen, (guided) slaves among them.

2) Pharoah In [2:49]: "And (remember) when We delivered you from Fir'aun's (Pharaoh) people, who were afflicting you with a horrible torment, killing your sons and sparing your women, and therein was a mighty trial from your Lord." In [10:83]: "But none believed in Musa (Moses) except the offspring of his people, because of the fear of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and his chiefs, lest they should persecute them; and verily, Fir'aun (Pharaoh) was arrogant tyrant on the earth, he was indeed one of the Musrifun (polytheists, sinners and transgressors, those who give up the truth and follow the evil, and commit all kinds of great sins)." In [20:24]:

"Go to Fir'aun (Pharaoh)! Verily, he has transgressed (all bounds in disbelief and disobedience, and has behaved as an arrogant, and as a tyrant)." In [20:60]: "So Fir'aun (Pharaoh) withdrew, devised his plot and then came back." What were the actions of Pharoah? -> He misled the people, killed them, etc. He was a Tyrant. -> He elevated himself on the earth -> He Transgressed -> He plotted. Because he wanted to elevate himself in the land, he was very diplomatic in the way he spoke. What did he say? In [7:123]: "Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "You have believed in him [Musa (Moses)] before I give you permission. Surely, this is a plot which you have plotted in the city to drive out its people, but you shall come to know." Tyrannical people want everything done only with their permission. In [40:29]:

"O my people! Yours is the kingdom this day, you are uppermost in the land. But who will save us from the Torment of Allah, should it befall us?" Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "I show you only that which I see (correct), and I guide you only to the path of right policy!" He wants to force the people to see things the way he does. If he sees a person is bad, the people should see him that way as well. In [43:51]: "And Fir'aun (Pharaoh) proclaimed among his people, saying: "O my people! Is not mine the dominion of Egypt, and these rivers flowing underneath me. See you not then?" What was Pharoah's sickness? Tyrants have a combination of sicknesses: They advertise themselves, brainwash and force people to see how they see, spread mischief, are arrogant, anyone who doesn't obey will be thrown in jail, etc. They're controlling. What was his punishment? Drowning. And that's suitable to his tyranny and arrogance.

3) Qarun There were so many tyrants at Musa سالم ع ل يه s 'ال time. In [28:76-82] "Verily, Qarun (Korah) was of Musa's (Moses) people, but he behaved arrogantly towards them. And We gave him of the treasures, that of which the keys would have been a burden to a body of strong men. When his people said to him: "Do not be glad (with ungratefulness to Allah's Favours). Verily! Allah likes not those who are glad (with ungratefulness to Allah's Favours)." -> He committed غي"."ب He transgressed upon them. -> He had the sickness of فرح.ال He rejoiced with himself and what he had. And when people advise him, it means his sickness was apparent. "But seek, with that (wealth) which Allah has bestowed on you, the home of the Hereafter, and forget not your portion of legal enjoyment in this world, and do good as Allah has been good to you, and seek not mischief in the land. Verily,

Allah likes not the Mufsidun (those who commit great crimes and sins, oppressors, tyrants, mischief-makers, corrupts)." He was initiating sickness in other people and spreading mischief in the world, because people would look at all that he had and wish for it. "He said: "This has been given to me only because of knowledge I possess." Did he not know that Allah had destroyed before him generations, men who were stronger than him in might and greater in the amount (of riches) they had collected. But the Mujrimun (criminals, disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, etc.) will not be questioned of their sins (because Allah knows them well, so they will be punished without account)." What did he say? He attributed all these blessings to himself.

"So he went forth before his people in his pomp. Those who were desirous of the life of the world, said: "Ah, would that we had the like of what Qarun (Korah) has been given? Verily! He is the owner of a great fortune." You don't have to show everything you have to the people. Don't show things to people which other people can't earn and initiate their sicknesses. "But those who had been given (religious) knowledge said: "Woe to you! The Reward of Allah (in the Hereafter) is better for those who believe and do righteous good deeds, and this none shall attain except those who are patient (in following the truth)." What was Qaruns end? "So We caused the earth to swallow him and his dwelling place. Then he had no group or party to help him against Allah, nor was he one of those who could save themselves." What was Qaruns sicknesses? ال عجب (Amazed of himself), Ascribed purity to himself, Ungratefulness to Allah, and want to be the best - you can be a person whose not the top, but have a want to be the best. Allah said in Verse 83:

"That home of the Hereafter (i.e. Paradise), We shall assign to those who rebel not against the truth with pride and oppression in the land nor do mischief by committing crimes. And the good end is for the Muttaqun"
