Carrier of the Musk المسك) (حامل Class #40 (المقدمة) How did the Prophet (pbuh) start his sermons? Page 5 Introduction Recited in Class: ان الحمد هلل نحمده و نستعينه و نستغفره و نعوذ باهلل من شرور انفسنا و سيئات اعمالنا من يهد هللا فال مضل له و من يضلل فال هادي له و اشهد ان ال اله اال هللا وحده ال شريك له و اشهد ان محمدا عبده و رسوله. All praise be to Allah, we praise Him, we seek His help, we seek His forgiveness and we seek refuge in Allah from the evil of ourselves and from the evil of our deeds. Whomever Allah guides, there is none who can misguide, and whoever is misguided none can guide. And I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, alone with no partners, and I bear witness that Mohammed (pbuh) is His servant and messenger. Surah Al Araf :199 ( ٱل عف و و أم ر بٱل ع ر ف و أع ر ض عن ٱل ج هلي ن (خ ذ (Show forgiveness, enjoin what is good, and turn away from the foolish (i.e. don't punish them)) o ( ٱل عف و (خ ذ Take whatever is given to you. And don t be careless about them, but be easy with them. Allah (swt) did not say ( مالمعروف,(امر but rather ( و أ م ر بٱل ع ر ف ), which means command to what they know. o Don t start with things they do not understand. For example, some people are not used to certain mannerisms, so don t start from there, but begin with what they know, so that will take them to to moderation. For example, some countries it is easy to cover, and some countries it is not so easy to cover. So begin with things people will recognize and apply. Page 2
o ( و أع رض عن ٱل ج هلي ن ): turn away, meaning don t listen to what the foolish are saying. o For example, at the time of the jahiliya, they had good manners established within them, but they were also drinking wine. Were they commanded to not drink from the start of Islam? No. After their faith was increased, then the command to not drink came down, subhan Allah. o If Allah (swt) is commanding the Prophet (pbuh) to do this, then we need to do the same as well. Surah Fussilat :34 ( و ل تس توى ٱل حسن ة و ل ٱلس ي ئ ة ٱد فع بٱل تى هى أح س ن فإذا ٱل ذى بي ن ك و بي ن ه ۥ عدٲو ة كأن ه ۥ و لى حميم ) (The good deed and the evil deed cannot be equal. Repel (the evil) with one which is better (i.e. Allâh orders the faithful believers to be patient at the time of anger, and to excuse those who treat them badly), then verily! he, between whom and you there was enmity, (will become) as though he was a close friend.) o ( و ل تس توى ٱل حسن ة و ل ٱلس ي ئ ة ): It is the way of Allah (swt) ( هللا,(سنة that anyone who does good is not the same as one who does bad. Sometimes people do something bad, and then you think it s ok to do bad as well, but that does not make it right. If someone does bad and you do bad, it is just as bad. And sometimes we react even more, so it s even worse. o So if someone does bad, you need to react with goodness. And when you are in a high position, it is even more important not to do something bad. For example, the Prophet (pbuh) frowned, and this mistake is magnified because he is in a high position. So when you are in the dawah, don t give an excuse for your bad behavior. o ( ٱد فع بٱل تى هى أح س ن ): meaning give the best of what you can give, and this is a higher level than just turning away. And what happens? o ( فإذا ٱل ذى بي ن ك و بي ن ه ۥ عدٲو ة كأن ه ۥ و لى حميم :( Whatever was between the two of you, Allah (swt) will change his heart and he will be like a friend, and his heart will boil for you, subhan Allah. We have to believe in Allah (swt) that this is what happens. Think good about Allah (swt) and that He has power over the hearts. You will have strength and positivity when you think good about Allah (swt). People are scared that they will get sick, and they will fall sick. We need to remember Allah s mercy, generosity and forbearance. We shouldn t put things in our mind of things of what can happen, we need to always think good. o And this shows you that you can change a bad society with your character, subhan Allah. فبما رح مة م ن ٱ لل لن ت له م و لو ك ن ت فظ ا غلي ظ ٱل قلب لنفض وا م ن حو ل ك فٱع ف عنہ م و ٱس تغ ف ر له م ( :159 Surah Al Imran (And by the Mercy of Allâh, you dealt with ) و شاور ه م فى ٱ ل م ر فإذا عز م ت فتو ك ل على ٱلم ت و ك لي ن ي ح ب ٱ لل ٱ لل إ ن them gently. And had you been severe and harsh hearted, they would have broken away from about you; so pass over (their faults), and ask (Allâh's) Forgiveness for them; and consult them in the affairs. Then when you have taken a decision, put your trust in Allâh, certainly, Allâh loves those who put their trust (in Him).) o This ayah was revealed when the archers left their place in order to get the booty, making them lose the battle. So Allah (swt) is telling the Prophet (pbuh) to show them gentleness. o ( و لو ك ن ت فظ ا غلي ظ ٱل قلب لنفض وا م ن حو ل ك ): Allah (swt) did not say to punish them or fine them. What makes people to stay around you? It is your gentleness. And a messenger has a Page 3
great message to carry, and if his heart gets hardened, then the people will run away. So even if he is a leader and they made a great mistake, do not be harsh with them. Because they will leave you, even if you have miracles, etc. People want you to be gentle, they don t want a dictator. o People want the good manners and treatment, and nowadays, people have so many choices, so if you are harsh, they can easily turn away. o Some people make small mistakes in the dawah, and they make it as if it is a big crime. o When you are treating others well, it will penetrate their hearts immediately, without anything blocking it. o ( و ٱس تغ فر له م ): make istighfar for them. Maybe they are making istighfar, but it is not enough, so make more subhan Allah. This is great ihsan. o ( و شاور ه م فى ٱ ل م ر ): and consult them and take their opinion. Imagine after all of this, subhan Allah. (من السيرة على حلم النبي صلى هللا عليه و سلم) Forbearance of the Messenger (pbuh) from the seerah Incident: During Hunayn, they became very proud of themselves for being large in number against the disbelievers, and they ended up being defeated. While the Prophet (pbuh) was distributing the booty, some people were given more than others. There was one companion who was given 100 camels, and others just one. And some of the chiefs, who are already rich, were given booty. So one man came who was not given anything, swore that this division was unjust and that it is not being done for the sake of Allah (swt), subhan Allah. He was accusing the Prophet (pbuh) of these two things. He did not say it directly to the Prophet (pbuh) but to the people in general. Then one man got angry and said I will inform the Messenger (pbuh). The Messenger (pbuh) said who will be just if Allah (swt) is not just and His messenger are not just? Subhan Allah. So the Messenger (pbuh) wants his impression to be corrected in front of the people. Then the Messenger (pbuh) said may Allah (swt) be merciful on Moses (as) who was hurt as well and was patient. Banu Israel even accused Moses (as) of very personal matters and he remained patient. The Messenger (pbuh) distributed the way he did because there were people who were inclined to Islam, and the ones who are higher in faith, it should not affect them if they receive worldly things or not, subhan Allah. Incident: In another incident, there was gold that was distributed to only four people. One of the companions of the Prophet (pbuh) said we have more rights to take that gold than those four. The Prophet (pbuh) said do you not trust me? You trusted me with a great message and revelation, but now with gold you do not trust me? Subhan Allah. Another man came and said to the Prophet (pbuh), have taqwa of Allah! He said, if I do not have taqwa, then who else will have taqwa? Subhan Allah. Then Khalid bin Walid (ra) came and said I will cut his head for saying this. The Messenger (pbuh) said no, because that man is praying, subhan Allah. And this shows you how much the Messenger (pbuh) pardoned. Then Khalid bin Walid (ra) said so many people are praying with their tongues, but Page 4
not with heart. The Prophet (pbuh) said, I am not commanded to open the hearts of the people and see if there is sincerity. I just take what is apparent. You can see that the Prophet (pbuh) is not taking it personally, subhan Allah. Incident: The Prophet (pbuh) was wearing a thick gown, and a bedouin from the back, and grabbed the collar of the Prophet (pbuh) to the point that a red mark can be seen on his neck. The bedouin said, give me from the wealth of Allah (swt) that you have! The Prophet (pbuh) smiled and laughed and said to give him money. He didn t bother asking why do you want the money because he knows this is the style of that man, he doesn t know better. Aqeedah - Chapter Two الثاني) (الفصل Requirement Two الثاني) (المطلب Types of Worship العبادة) (انواع p. 33-35: (انواع العبادة) Types of worship :(الدعاء) 1. Dua a (دعاء عبادة ( worship Dua a as a (دعاء المسألة ( something Dua a asking for :(دعاء غير هللا اقسام) To make dua a besides Allah are divided into parts ان يكون المطلوب ل يقدر ( (swt) o (1) Asking for something which is only in the power of Allah (عليه ال هللا عز و جل (انزال الغيث ( rain Only Allah (swt) can bring down (عفران الذنوب ( sins Or forgive طريقة الطلب كمال الذل و كمال ( love o (2) The way of asking, with too much humiliation and (الحب o (3) Cannot call on a human unless they are present, asking from someone who is not (ان يكون المدعو بعيدا عن الداعي) away) near (far (ل يسمع البعيد ال هللا ( (swt) No one listens from far except Allah (ل يعلم الغيب ال هللا ( (swt) No one knows the unseen except Allah ل ( (swt) No one disposes and controls the affairs in the universe except Allah (مدبر و تصرفا في الكون ال هللا o (4) Asking someone other than Allah (swt) with belief that they can independtly give you what you ask يدعو الغير مع اعتقاد انه يستقل في ايجاب المطلوب) :(ان to invoke besides Allah (swt) and believe they can independently do things for you. This is major shirk. Because in their heart they believe that others, like the companions or Jesus (as) have the power to do things. Thinking they can bring them a job, cure them, etc. You can ask someone to make dua a for you, but when you believe that that person s dua a will get accepted, then this is putting a mediator. And the problem is that people worry about the response and getting it, instead of worrying about making the dua a, subhan Allah. Our problem is that we don t trust Allah (swt), we only trust our eyes when we see it, subhan Allah. So don t busy your mind with the response, but with making the dua a. Allah (swt) is the only One who can independently give you things. Page 5
o (5) To ask what is bida a يكون بدعيا) :(ان to make a dua a asking the Prophet (pbuh) directly, this is major shirk. Or to ask Allah (swt) and say for the sake or love of the Prophet (pbuh) give me this, this is shirk. So when you make a dua a, you should follow the Sunnah. Which is to praise Allah (swt), sending blessings to the Prophet (pbuh), be humble and needy in front of Allah (swt). o (6) To ask from the dead يطلب من الميت) :(ان Asking the dead is major shirk. For example, people who go visit the graves. It has now become a business. Different walis have graves in different places, subhan Allah. Even two brothers admitted to creating a grave and saying this is the grave of so and so, and people come and invoke, and their dua as get answered because it is a test, and so more people come. We ask Allah (swt) to protect us from shirk. Ameen. You can only make dua a for the dead person, not ask something from them. o Cure comes only from Allah (swt) and the means are zero. For example a person can take the best medicine and is not cured, and a person can just drink water, and believes that Allah (swt) will cure him, and he gets cured. You have to trust Allah (swt), not the means. o Cannot ask a dead person to intercede for you :(التوسل) Tawwasul :(ما معنى التوسل) o Definition of tawwasul Language :(لغة) which means to draw closer to something by doing something. (التقرب الى الشئ بالشئ ( In the religion :(شرعا) to mention in your dua a something you did in order to have your dua a accepted ( الداعي في دعائه ما يرجو ان يكون سببا في قبول دعائه.(يذكر For example, the story of the cave, the three made dua a by mentioning their most sincere deeds in order to draw closer to Allah (swt) to get relief. More clarification to be followed in sha a Allah. (الستعانة) 2. Seeking help (الستغاثة) 3. Appealing (المحبة) 4. Love (الخوف) 5. Fear (الرغبة) 6. Hope which makes you act (الرهبة) 7. Fear which makes you act (الخشية) 8. Fear with knowledge (الرجاء) 9. Hope (التوكل) 10. Reliance (التوبة) 11. Repentance (الذبح) 12. Slaughter If you direct any of these worships to other than Allah (swt), then it is major shirk. Page 6
