Who is Your most beloved servant from amongst Your servants? Allah Almighty: One who always remembers Me and never forgets Me. Hazrat Moosa: Who is the best decision-maker? Allah Almighty: One who makes decisions in the light of truth and never follows his carnal desires. Hazrat Moosa: Who amongst Your servants is the most knowledgeable? Allah Almighty: One who always keeps on learning from others while still having the knowledge, so that he may find some substance which may lead him to guidance or save him from destruction. Hazrat Moosa: If there is anyone more knowledgeable than me from amongst Your servants, inform me? Allah Almighty: Khizr is more knowledgeable than you. 1

Hazrat Moosa: Where will I find him? Allah Almighty: On the rocks at the seashore. Hazrat Moosa: How do I reach there? Allah Almighty: Begin your journey with a fish in your basket. The place where the fish disappears will be your meeting point with Khizr. (Madaarik Al-Tanzeel Vol. 3, p. 217) Hazrat Moosa peace be upon Him undertook the journey towards the meeting point for two oceans in the companionship of his servant and student Hazrat Yoosha Ibn Noon Ibn Ifraeem Ibn Yusuf peace be upon them. After travelling a long distance Hazrat Moosa peace be upon Him fell asleep and it was the place where the fish came alive and jumped in the ocean, and wherever it jumped, it made a path in the water. When Hazrat Moosa peace be upon Him got up from his sleep he continued with the journey and it was time for lunch. When he asked his student Hazrat Yoosha Ibn Noon for the fish he said, The place where you had fallen asleep the fish jumped into the ocean and I forgot to inform you. He said, That was our destination we were in search of. However, he went back and traced the way which led him to Hazrat Khizr peace be upon Him. When Hazrat Moosa peace be upon Him met him he greeted him with Salaam, and Hazrat Khizr peace be upon Him said in a state of surprise, Where have the people of paying Salaam emerged in this place? He asked Hazrat Moosa peace be upon Him, Who are you? He replied, I am Moosa. He then asked, Which Moosa? Are you the Moosa of Bani Israel? He replied, Yes, of course. Hazrat Khizr peace be upon Him then told him, O Moosa, Allah Almighty has granted me a type of knowledge which you do not know, and He has given you a type of knowledge which I am not aware of. Meaning, He possessed the Mystical Knowledge which Hazrat Moosa peace be upon Him did not know and Hazrat Moosa peace be upon Him possessed the knowledge of Shariah which He was not aware of. Hazrat Moosa peace be upon Him sought permission from Hazrat Khizr peace be upon Him to follow him, so that he could teach him some of the knowledge which he was granted by Allah Almighty. Hazrat Khizr peace be upon Him replied, You cannot have patience with me. Hazrat Moosa peace be upon Him said, I will be patient inshaallah and will never disobey you. Hazrat Khizr peace be upon Him said, On one condition; that you will not question me about anything until I myself inform you. After the agreement, they began to walk on the seachore in the company of Hazrat Moosa and Yoosha Ibn Noon peace be upon Them and when they saw a boat they boarded the boat on invitation of the sailors and they did not even ask them for a fare. When they 2

sat in the boat Hazrat Khizr peace be upon Him took out an axe from his bag and broke a plank from the ship and threw it in the ocean. Looking at this Hazrat Moosa peace be upon Him could not bear it and spoke up, and asked him the following question: ر ا ۱۷ ا ا م شی ت د ج ئ لہا لق ر ق اہ غ ا ل ت ہ ت اخرق 'Have you cleaved it in order to drown its passengers, undoubtedly you have done a wrong thing. (Al-Kahf 18, Verse 71) Hazrat Khizr peace be upon Him then said: یع م ص با ۱۷ ع ی ت ط ا ن ک لن ت س الم اق ل He said, ' did I not tell you, that you would not be able to stay with me.' (Al-Kahf 18, Verse 72) Hazrat Moosa peace be upon Him apologized: ل ت ؤ اخ ذ ن ن م ن ام س ر ا ۱۷ ت و ل ت ر ہ ق ا ن س ی ر ی ع ب م Musa said, 'catch me not for what I forgot and put not difficulty in my affair on me. (Al-Kahf 18, Verse 73) As they moved along a little farther Hazrat Khizr peace be upon Him saw a small child who was the only son of his parents. Hazrat Khizr peace be upon Him pressed his neck, nailed him to the ground and killed him. Looking at this horrific scene Hazrat Moosa peace be upon Him lost his patience and said in a firm tone: ک ر ا ۱۷ ا ن ب غ ی نف س ل شی زک ی ۃ ف س ا ت ت ن ئ اقت قد ج ل 'Have you killed an innocent soul without his having killed another? Undoubtedly you have done a hideous thing'. (Al-Kahf 18, Verse 74) Hazrat Khizr peace be upon Him again told him the same thing about him not having patience. Hazrat Moosa peace be upon Him then said: ت م ن ل ع ذ ر ا ۱۷ ب لغ د ہا فل ت ص ح ب ن ق د ع ء ب ن ت ع ن ش ا ن ال س ک 'If I ask anything to you after this, then keep not company with me; undoubtedly, your excuse is already fulfilled from my side'. (Al-Kahf 18, Verse 76) 3

Again both went on till they came to the people of a village, they asked the villagers for food, but they refused to entertain them. The two then found a wall about to fall, he set it up right by reciting Ism Azam. Hazrat Moosa peace be upon Him who was already frustrated at their unfair treatment, became angry and he could not stand it and said: ذ ت ع لیہ اج ر ا ۱۱ ئت لت خ ل و ش 'if you had wished, you could have taken a wage for it'. (Al-Kahf 18, Verse 77) He said, This is the separation between me and you ; now I shall tell you the explanation of those things over which you could not have patience. As for the boat which I broke, it belonged to certain poor people who were working in the sea and survived on its income, then I intended to make it faulty because behind them there was an unjust king who used to seize every perfect boat forcibly, so that it stays safe from his hands, and the boy whom I killed was Kaafir by birth and his parents loved him limitlessly and fulfilled all his demands, his parents were pious Muslims, then we feared that he might involve them in infidelity, therefore, by killing him, I saved his parents from kufr, and if his parents have patience then their Lord might will give them a daughter in lieu of the boy who will be married to a Prophet and a Prophet will be born through her womb who will guide a nation. As for that leaning wall, it belonged to the two orphan lads of the city and underneath it was their treasure and their father was a noble man. If the wall collapsed now the people of the village would have taken it, and thus your Lord desired that those two should reach their maturity and bring forth their treasure as a mercy from your Lord, therefore I did not let the wall fall now. O Moosa, be content that whatever I did was not of my own biding but as Allah Almighty willed me to do. Hazrat Moosa peace be upon Him then returned to his homeland. (Madaarik Al-Tanzeel Vol. 3, p. 219-221) Hazrat Khizr s peace be upon Him Introduction: His Kunniyat is Abul Abbaas, his name is Baliya and his father s name is Malkaan. The word Baliya comes from the Syriac language which in Arabic, translates as Ahmad. His title is Khizr and this word can be pronounced in three ways, Khazir, Khizr, Khazr. Khizr means greenery. Wherever he sat, with his blessings green grass started to grow at those places therefore people began to call him Khizr. He belongs to a very noble family and his father and forefathers were kings. Some Aarifeen have mentioned that a Muslim who remembers his name and his father s name and his Kunniyat, will InshaAllah die with Imaan. 4

(Saawi Vol. 4, p. 1207) Hazrat Khizr peace be upon Him is a living Wali: Some have declared him to be a Nabi but the majority of the scholars have confirmed him to be a Wali. (Jalalain p. 249) The majority of the scholars have declared that he is still alive and will be alive till the day of Qiyamah, for he has drunk the nectar. He is surrounded by a large number of Awliya and seek blessings. Hence, Aarif Billah Sayyid Bikri has written in his Qaseedah Dardus Saher about him as follows: حی و حق ک لم یق ل ب و اف ات ہ ا ل ال ذ ی لم یلق ن و ر ج م ال ہ I swear by your truthfulness, Hazrat Khizr peace be upon Him is alive and the only one who will consider him dead It will be the one who has not experienced the Noor of his beauty ف ع لیہ م ن ی ک ل م ا ھب الص با از ک ی س ل م ط اب ف ی ا ر س ال ہ Whenever the pleasant wind of Saba passes by him May it deliver my sincere Salaam to him! Hazrat Khizr peace be upon Him was blessed by the companionship of the Holy Prophet may Allah send peace and blessings upon Him therefore he is a Sahaabi as well. (Saawi Vol. 4, p. 1208) (Ajaibul Quran p. 157-163) 5
