Waqfe Nau Newsletter USA Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih V ABA s Friday Sermon Summary Friday Sermon: The Merciful and Forgiving God Delivered by Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad ABA, the Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community on July 18, 2014 On 18th of July 2014, Hazrat Khalīfatul-Masīh V (May Allāh be his Helper) delivered the Friday Sermon at the Baitul Futūh Mosque, Morden, London. Huzoor (May Allāh be his Helper) recited verses 54-55 of Sūrah Al-Zumar, gave their translation, which is as follows:. Say, O My servants who have committed excesses against their own souls! Despair not of the mercy of Allāh, surely Allāh forgives all sins. Verily He is Most Forgiving, Merciful. And turn ye to your Lord, and submit yourselves to Him, before there comes unto you the punishment; for then you shall not be helped. (39:54-55) And said: God Almighty has given a message of hope to His servants in various verses of the Holy Qur ān saying He is Most Forgiving and Ever Merciful. The verses contain the beautiful message that Allāh is Ever Merciful and Gracious towards everyone who, after having committed sins, is fearful of His punishment. Indeed, God says: O my servants! Despair not of my mercy, I am the Lord, and I have the power to forgive you your sins and wrap you in the raiment of my mercy. Huzoor (May Allāh be his Helper) said: Due to this message of hope and mercy, despair becomes a sin for Page 6 the believers. In fact, the words of mercy from God Almighty show us the ways to love Him and act upon His commandments, so that we may continue to receive His blessings by getting ever closer to Him. Therefore, Divine message is like an illuminated path for those who have lost their way. It is a message of life for those who are spiritually dead. In fact, it is a promise of liberty for the ones who are in the grip of Satan. Therefore, the benevolence and mercy of the Gracious and Merciful God requires that we deepen our love for Him by acting upon His commandments, by attaining nearness to Him, and by trying our level best to put an end to our shortcomings and sinfulness. Huzoor (May Allāh be his Helper) said: The teachings of the Holy Qur ān and the traditions of the Holy Prophet (saw) inform us that no one is unforgiveable. Hence, everyone can be reformed; everyone can become recipient of Divine grace, provided he or she makes a sincere effort to change himself/herself for the better. Huzoor (May Allāh be his Helper) presented some traditions of the Holy Prophet (saw) regarding the blessings and forgiveness of God Almighty and regarding His special grace that descends during the month of Ramadān. Huzoor (May Allāh be his Helper) said: The Holy Prophet (saw) said that the first ten days of Ramadān are filled with Divine mercy; the second ten days contain forgiveness and the last ten days grant one deliverance from Hell. If we fast during Ramadān doing justice to the requirements of this sacred month and worshipping

Waqfe Nau Newsletter USA Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih V ABA s Friday Sermon Summary Continued... the Almighty God and offering Nawafil to Him, we shall be rewarded with such forgiveness that not only our previous sins will be forgiven but also we will obtain the ability to shun sinfulness for good. Huzoor (May Allāh be his Helper) said: The second ten days of Ramadān are going to end in a day or two and the last ten days will then begin, which will bring with them countless blessings because there comes a night in them which is called Laila-tul-Qadr, the night in which prayers are answered and one witnesses the miracle of one s closeness to God. Therefore we should pay special attention to prayers and other acts of worship during the last ten days of Ramadān. Huzoor (May Allāh be his Helper) said: To shun sinfulness and stay away from committing sins and to attain deliverance from Hell, one needs to make a special effort. Those of us who are trying to make this Ramadān the means of obtaining Divine grace and blessings as well as getting deliverance from Hell, will be truly fortunate. May we stay away from sins forever and may we put an end to our shortcomings, and may this Ramadān lead us towards performing the righteous deeds with greater frequency. Huzoor (May Allāh be his Helper) said: We ought to pay attention to the true repentance during Ramadān. This will enable us to obtain nearness to God. The Promised Messiah (AS) said: Repentance, in reality, is a source of great help for the attainment of high morals. And it makes a man perfect, for a person who wants to bring about a change in his morals and perform good deeds; he must repent with a true heart. There are three conditions for repentance: the first condition is to get rid of evil thoughts which cause evil propensities. The second condition is to show remorse, which means that the person should express remorse over his sins and evil actions and should ponder over the fact that the pleasure derived from acts of sinfulness is only fleeting and temporary. The third condition is to inculcate in oneself a firm resolve that he or she will never revert to the evils they have shunned. If a person adheres to this resolve, God will bestow upon him the strength for true repentance. The Promised Messiah (AS) said: Cleanse your actions and be ever occupied with the remembrance of Allāh and do not become heedless... Forever keep repentance alive and never let it die...the weapons through which we are going to achieve predominance are Istighfar, Taubah, knowledge of the faith, keeping the greatness of God in our mind and offering the five daily prayers regularly. Salāt is the key to the acceptance of prayers. When you offer the Salāt, make prayers during it, and do not be heedless, and safeguard yourself from every evil whether it be related to the duties owed to God or to His creatures. Huzoor (May Allāh be his Helper) said: May Allāh make us among those who truly repent before the Almighty God and may we become the true beneficiaries of all the blessings associated with the month of Ramadān. Āmīn Next, Huzoor (May Allāh be his Helper) spoke of the martyrdom of Muhammad Imtiaz Ahmad Sahib son of Mushtaq Ahmad Tāhir Sahib of Nawabshah, and the sad demise of Naseer Ahmad Anjum Sahib, Professor of Jāmi a Ahmadiyya Rabwah, and Sahibzada Mirzā Anwar Ahmad Sahib son of Hazrat Musleh Mau ūd ra. Huzoor (May Allāh be his Helper) spoke of their services to the Jamā at and announced that he would lead their funeral prayers in absentia after the Jumu a Prayer. Friday Sermon synopsis by: Ch. Waqfe Nau Newsletter USA Page 8 Objectives by Promised Messiah as "The primary purpose of this Convention is to enable every sincere individual to personally experience religious benefits; They may enhance their knowledge and - due to their being blessed and enabled by Allah, The Exalted - their perception [of Allah] may progress. Among its secondary benefits is that this congregational meeting together will promote mutual introduction among all brothers, and it will strengthen the fraternal ties within this Community..." Ishtihar 7 Dec. 1892, Majmoo`ah Ishtiharat Vol. I, Page 340 It is essential for all those who can afford to undertake the journey, that they must come to attend this Convention which embodies many blessed objectives. They should disregard minor inconveniences in the cause of Allah and His prophet (peace be upon him.). Allah yields reward to the sincere persons at every step of their way, and no labour and hardship, undertaken in His way, ever goes to waste. I re-emphasize that you must not rank this convention in the same league as other, ordinary, human assemblies. This is a phenomenon that is based purely on the Divine Help, for propagation of Islam." Waqfe Nau Newsletter USA Page 9 Purpose of Jalsa Salana Some Directives For Guests and Workers Of Jalsa Salana In the light of instructions by Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih V ABA This is NOT A FESTIVAL but a Jama'at convention. Do not think that you are participating in a festival and do not waste your time in personal meetings or in buying or selling or showing off the latest fashions. Greet each other with smiles. If you had any rancour, end them with smiles in these three days. Secondly, spread the good words and urge others to perform good deeds and tell them to desist from bad practices. After all, that is the prime purpose of Jalsa Salana. Those who come to attend Jalsa, must participate in it fully and instead of roaming about aimlessly, they should derive the maximum benefit from the programme. Care should be taken that the ladies and the children sit and listen to the Jalsa proceedings quietly and try to derive the maximum benefit from them. Blessing of Jalsa Ahmadis from the UK should participate in the Jalsa with full zeal and vigour. This is YOUR Jalsa Salana. Do not be absent without any valid reason. Some people only come for one day instead of all three days and then their objective is to meet friends rather than gain the blessings of the occasion. If the blessings of Jalsa are kept in mind, then attendance on all three days is essential. Listen to the speeches and other programmes in silence paying full attention. Do not waste this precious time. On some rare occasions some local drivers offer a lift to the guest in their car and then demand money. This is against the spirit of hospitality and people should refrain from this prac-

Waqfe Nau Newsletter USA Page 10 To honour and serve our guests should be our aim and we should serve them with love and sincerity and in a spirit of sacrifice. Guests should remember that all these arrangements are temporary. The volunteers work very hard to serve the guests, but occasionally if there is any shortfall, it should be overlooked. If any guests find a shortfall, they should gently draw attention of the workers to it. There is no need to get angry. The arrangements are large scale and there are bound to be some deficiencies. They should be tolerated and overlooked. Treat your fellow workers with respect and honour; and perform all your duties together in an atmosphere of love and friendship. The hosts must perform their duties of hospitality in a pleasant manner and continue to do so as long as the hospitality period continues. It is not commendable that the workers disappear immediately after the Jalsa is over and those in charge are left in embarrassment. Perform your duties diligently and honestly. Similarly, if the workers find a guest angry, they should apologise politely and try to remove and solve his difficulty. Remember! you should never speak to your guests harshly or discourteously. Remember the etiquette and sanctity of the place in and around the mosque. During the Jalsa, the marquees serve as mosques. Therefore, remember to observe the sanctity of the mosque in these. Jalsa days should be spent in the rememberance of Allah, reciting 'Durood' (invoking blessings of Allah upon His Holy Prophet) and regular performance of Salat. The guests have come from far and wide. If they do not perform Salat regularly and at thier appointed times, they will lose the real purpose of their coming to Jalsa. Similarly, in such places as the kitchen where it is difficult for the worker to leave, arrangments should be made so that they can perform their Salat in their place of duty. This is the responsibility of those who are in charge of those areas.

Waqfe Nau Newsletter USA Page 11 Sometimes, children start crying during the Salat, this naturally diverts the attention of the others and spoils their prayers. The parents, whether father or mother, should take the child away for the sake of others. Fathers or mothers with very young children should not try to occupy the front rows during Salat. They should sit in the back row so that if need be, they can leave. Please switch off your mobile (handy/cell) phones during the prayers. Some people have the habit of bringing in their phones and leaving them switched on. When the phones begin ringing, it causes a great deal of disturbance to the worshippers. Some people talk loudly and in querulous tones as a matter of habit or sit in groups and indulge in loud laughter. Try to avoid these practices as much as you can during these three days. In fact avoid these altogether. This is not considered a good habit anyway. Be mindful of all the discipline and arrangements and co-operate and abide fully with the instructions given by workers on duty. During the Jalsa, some children and adults throw litter on the grounds and pathways. Irrespective of whose duty it is, whosoever notices any litter should pick it up and deposit it in the litterbins or boxes provided for this purpose. Both guests and hosts should keep the site free of litter. Ladies are advised that they should take care not to roam around aimlessly. However, those ladies who are not Ahmadis and do not observe Purdah, they should only be requested to do so. There is no need for force or coercion. If there is some Ahmadi who has a difficulty to cover her face, she should wear minimum and simple make-up. Spread the habit of keeping your head covered. It should be remembered that we are spending our time in a spiritual environment during these days. We should not try to find excuses not to observe Purdah. It is a different matter if there is a genuine reason. Even then the minimum norms of Purdah should be observed. Based on Friday Sermon 18th July 2003 (Published in Al-Fazl International 12th September 2003)

This time, at a new venue from that of previous years: Bait-ul-Hadi mosque in Central New Jersey - a fitting venue as it is home to two Jami'ah students and numerous future prospects inshaallah. The camp was held the day after Jalsa Salana USA on August 18th and ended on August 27th. A group of Jami'ah students, headed by Hammad Mobeen Sahib, conducted the camp as mentors, teachers, referees, friends, and older brothers. The goal of the camp was simple: to have the participants of the camp experience and ultimately understand the day to day life of a Jami'ah student. Participants would begin the day at 5:00 AM with Fajr Prayers, followed by attendance, announcements for the day, and time for independent recitation of the Holy Quran. Afterwards, participants had ample time to nap or get ready for the day as breakfast was served at 7:00 AM. Classes would begin promptly at 8:00 AM with subjects including Arabic, Urdu, Ahadith, History of Islam, and Attributes of Allah all taught by the Jami'ah students. Classes would proceed until 11:00 AM where participants would then have a half hour break for snacks and rest and then continue again at 11:30 AM and end for the day at 1:30 PM for Zuhr Prayers. Lunch would then be served at 2:00 PM with different items on the menu including cold cut sub sandwiches, fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, and even a Barbecue one day - just to name a few. After lunch, participants would have free time to socialize, play games, rest and catch up on their homework for the day until Asr prayer at 5:45 PM followed by attendance roll call, announcements and a quick snack

Waqfe Nau Newsletter USA Page 18 break until 6 PM when sports would begin. Many organized sports were played including soccer, volleyball, basketball, tug-of-war, football, and races, all refereed by the Jami'ah students. Sports would be played until 8 PM where participants would break for Maghrib prayer followed by attendance, and announcements. Afterward, participants would partake in educational competitions including recitation of the Holy Quran, Urdu Poem, and prepared and impromptu speeches on some nights. Other nights would have Question and Answer sessions with the Jami'ah students about anything the participants wanted to discuss. They would then break for Isha prayer at 8:45 PM followed by attendance, announcements and dinner which was served at 9:00 PM. Many dinner entrees were served such as spaghetti, gyros, chicken and rice and many more. After dinner, the participants would break up into groups headed by Jami'ah students that divided to clean the mosque to prepare for the next day. Soon after, participants would prepare for bed and lights would be turned off at 11:00 PM. However, just like in Jami'ah, the camp was not all studies as the participants were given the opportunity to take a break from the books and go on an adventurous, thrill-filled day at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ - home to the tallest, fastest roller coaster in the world. Participants arrived at the gates at 10:00 AM and broke into groups headed by Jami'ah students and enjoyed the park until 3 PM where everyone met up at a picnic area outside the park for lunch and Zuhr and Asr prayers. They then broke up into the same groups and headed back to the park for more rides and fun until it was time to head back to the mosque at 7 PM for dinner and Maghrib and Isha prayers. All in all, by the grace of Allah, the Jami'ah Orientation Camp was a huge success. It was enjoyed not only by the participants of the camp but by the Jami'ah students, organizers, and volunteers alike. This would not have been the success it was without the help of the innumerable volunteers and the support of the organizers including, but not limited to, Hafiz Samiullah Sahib and Abdul Nasir Sahib. May Allah accept the efforts put forth by all those who were a part of the camp and bless the mission to spread the message of the Promised Messiah to the corners of the Earth. Ameen! Waqfe Nau Newsletter USA Page 19 Combined MD, DC and VA Waqfe Nau Regional Ijtema June 2014 at Baitur Rhman Mosque Alhamdulillah it was a very successful Ijtema in which Waqfeen, Waqfaat and their parents participated. Here are some highlights. This was a combined ijtema of three regions: Maryland, DC/North Virginia and South Virginia/Richmond. About 15 under -7 Waqfeen and Waqfaat made their presentations. Two group presentations were done from 18+ Waqfeen and one from 18+ Waqfaat. Respected Maulana Naseem Mahdi sahib conducted a Question/Answer session with waqfeen/waqfaat & parents which people enjoyed. He also distributed the prizes at the end. Assistant National Secretary Syed Fazal Ahmad sahib and Reg. Waqfe Nau Secretary Mansoor Ahmed sahib also addressed the waqfeene nau. A new pattern for competitions was tried out during this Ijtema. About 70-80 waqfeen and waqfaat attended this ijtema along with 25-30 parents. Overall I believe this ijtema was very helpful to motivate the waqfeen and Waqfat for their waqf. May Allah bless all who participated and make them beneficial fruits of the Jama`at of the Promised Messiah (AS). Ameen. By Dr. Faheem Ahmed Regional Sec. WN
