God continues to bless us. Gerald Shirey has joined James Reynolds as our Fix-it team. There are always a lot of items that need repair, replacement, etc., so we keep these fellas hopping. If you would like to help on a part time basis with odd jobs around the church, please let me know. We can use you! We had some issues with the elevator Sunday. The intermittent problem that the technician could not fix on Monday and Friday of last week, surfaced again on Sunday. The good news is that they came out yesterday and determined the root problem and feel very confident that all is well now If you have not signed up for On-Demand, please do so at your earliest convenience. It is the best place to have the most up to date contact info on all of our members along with

information on your class and every committee you are involved with. You will also be able to see you contributions to the church for this year and last year. Speaking of contributions: 1) Your faithfulness in your contributions during the month of December will help us in our year end expenditures. We worship and show our gratitude to our God through our gifts and tithes. 2) Help us save money in forms and postage by accessing your yearend contributions via On- Demand. It is safe and easy. We are in Stage 2 drought conditions so please help us by conserving water where you can and report any leaks, etc. to me if you find any. I am looking forward to seeing how God will move during this important time of the year as we celebrate His birth! Blessings Ken Rector Note: The link to On-Demand is as follows: https://secure.accessacs.com/access/memberlogin.aspx?sn=106095 From Jon Discipleship and Adult Education Will you be our Prayer Partner If you were driving in your car and all of a sudden the red oil light came on, what would you do? If you have any sense at all you would pull over as quickly as possible and shut the engine off. You know that running an engine without oil can do a lot of damage. Before you leave on a long trip in your car one of the first things you will do (hopefully) is check the oil. Why, because you know that running an engine without oil can do a lot of damage. Pastor Sean shared a story with me about buying a new power saw that would saw through metal. He got interrupted while he was preparing to fill the saw with gasoline and when he returned he forgot he had not mixed the gasoline with oil. Needless to say, when he started the power saw the motor was destroyed. He now knows for sure that running an engine without oil can do a lot of damage. Well, trying to minister to others through Celebrate Recovery without prayer cover is the same as trying to run an engine without oil. It can do a lot of damage. It is prayer that will assure that our worship time is bringing glory to God and not to ourselves. It is prayer that will assure our teachings are based on the truth of God s Word and not our own wisdom. It is prayer that will prepare a person s heart to be open to God s healing power. We are looking for Christians who are willing to commit 3-5 minutes a day praying for Celebrate Recovery. All we need is your name and email address and each week my wife Pat will send you an email with the specific prayer request for each day.

It is easy to become a Celebrate Recovery prayer partner, you can send Pat an email at patower@austin.rr.com or signup at the Celebrate Recovery table in the church foyer. Thank you for your continuous prayer support. Colossians 4:2-3a (NIV) Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, Jon From Aaron Children s Ministry Sunday, December 9 th Children s Worship will be attending the Christmas Program during the 10:45am service. Parents you are invited to pick up your children from their Bible Life Class if you would like for them to sit with you during the service. Sunday, December 23 rd We will all be gathering for a single service at the 10:45am hour. As a result there will be no Children s Bible Life Classes or Children s Worship. New Year, New Patterns Utilizing Long Story Short in Family Worship On Sunday, January 13 th, I will be hosting a brief seminar to equip parents to use Long Story Short: Ten Minute Devotions to Draw Your Family God which is intended to work in tandem with what your children are learning in their Children s Bible Life Classes on Sunday mornings. As you make your New Year s resolutions I encourage you to resolve to lead your family in worship in 2013. Long Story Short is just one method and is simply our attempt to assist you in your God given responsibility to disciple your children. If you d like to see what all the fuss is about please join me at 4:30pm in Bldg. A on Sunday, January 13 th. What s the Big Deal? Why God Cares About Sex On Sunday, January 27 th, we will be offering a time for our 5 th and 6 th graders to find some answers to questions they have about sex. They hear about it from other kids, they hear about it on TV and on the radio, but we want them to hear about it from God s word, through God s eyes. Not only do we believe it is a parent s responsibility to talk to their children about sex, we also believe parents are the people best suited to do it! So why are we hosting this event? For the same reason we have Children s Bible Life Classes, AWANA, and Children s Worship not to take the place of parents in their task of discipling their children but to assist them in it. So on Sunday, January 27 th, from 4:30-6:00pm we will offer two sessions meeting in different locations on our campus, one for girls and one for boys. The evening will include a time of brief instruction and a word of personal testimony, followed by a time of Q&A. In order for your child to attend you must RSVP. If you have any questions or would like to reserve a spot for your child please contact me via the church office (512) 295-3132 or via email aaron@hayshills.com PS. We ll be offering a training seminar for parents seeking to talk to their children about sex in either February or March.

From Pastor David My favorite time of the year! As I have been saying this season is theology season! Time to go deep. Even though the faith we have (our set of beliefs from Scripture) is once for all delivered, understanding it goes on all of our lives. Contemplating how to say what we believe, trying to better grasp our faith and the many implications of our faith that is an ongoing adventure. Let me assure you that the well is very deep. Without any doubt, the mystery of our religion is great: He was revealed in flesh, vindicated [b] in spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among Gentiles, believed in throughout the world, taken up in glory. (1 Timothy 3:16) GET THE WORD OUT about the beautiful tribute of worship our worship ministry will offer as a gift to the Lord and to our community, this Sunday morning in both services. This Sunday night join us for the Deacon Ordination service as we set apart James Reynolds and David Gill for deacon ministry. Come and hear their testimonies. Then December 16 I will finish preaching Christmas from God s Perspective in our going deep series. The Sunday night of December 16 join us for Christmas Praise at 6 PM. Afterward we will hang ornaments on the tree in honor of loved ones we have lost and want to remember with thanksgiving. Pastor David From Tim Greetings from the Worship and Music Ministry! Please invite your family and friends to join you here at HHBC as we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ on December 9th in both services with the Celebration Choir's presentation of

"Beyond the Manger Stood the Cross" This musical presentation will feature not only the Celebration Cholr but also a Youth Ensemble, the Praise Band, and a special guest soloist. On Sunday evening, December 16 at 6:00 we will have our annual Christmas Praise Featuring King's KidZ, Kid'Z PraiZe, the Sign Choir, Breakaway, and the Symphonic Band as well as some singing of Christmas Carols. Please come and show your support for these groups. They all have worked hard in their preparation for this night so please be here to enjoy their presentations as we worship the Lord together! All of us in music ministry hope for you to have a very Merry Christmas! Tim Snowden From Sean Youth News Disciple Now 2013 is scheduled for the weekend of January 18th-20th. (HCISD has Monday, the 21st as a staff/student holiday). It will start Friday night at 7 pm at HHBC and end Sunday morning at noon. This year's theme is 'Go Fish'. Fishing stories. We've all heard them. "It was this big." "You should have seen the one that got away." People love to tell stories of their fishing adventures. When it comes to faith, however, most people clam up. Why is it we can't talk about what God has done in our lives as naturally as we can spin fishing tales? We will be exploring the motivation behind sharing your faith and how it can become a natural part of your life.

Students will be broken up into age and gender groups and staying with host homes throughout our congregation. These smaller family groups will be led by a college student and will help the youth dive deep into the Word and build community among peers. The cost is $50 and un-churched friends are free. Students will receive all meals (Saturday-Sunday morning, you are responsible for dinner Friday night) and a t- shirt, along with a devotional and CD of worship music for attending the retreat. They will be participating in ropes course activities Saturday. Sign-ups are located on the windows outside the youth room. Students will need to fill out permission forms to attend the weekend. Forms are located upstairs on the tables outside the youth room. Questions? Contact Sean Sivils at sean_sivils@yahoo.com or Emily at emily@hayshills.com Jr. High Care Group THIS Sunday, December 9!
