Bulletin #1529 September 16, 2018 From The Minister s Pen Seven New Testament MUSTS n numerous New Testament passages, the I word MUST appears. Many more times the word is implied. The word MUST is an impersonal verb, signifying 'it is necessary' or required or not optional The full thrust of this little word can be found in seven powerful passages of the pages of Holy Writ. John 3:14: "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the son of man be lifted up." If the serpent in Exodus 21:8-9 had not been lifted up by Moses in the wilderness, the people would have had no cure for the deadly snakebite. In like manner, if God had not allowed His only begotten Son to be lifted up on the cross, we would be without a cure today for the problem that confronts all mankind that is, sin! John 3:16 states, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Christ Jesus is the Savior of the world (Luke 19:10). Jesus is the only way to salvation (John 14:6); He is the author and finisher of faith (Heb. 12:2). Christ was and is the only way we have redemption. Acts 4:12: "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved." In Peter's preaching that is recorded in Acts 2:36-38. he affirms that every person who is saved MUST be saved by obedience to the authority of Jesus Christ as Lord. "And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him " (Heb. 5:9). He is our High Priest (3:1). Hebrews 11:6: "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. FAITH is a MUST! Man cannot be pleasing to God without faith and trust in Jesus. In recollection of one well-known hymn, there are the words: "Trust and obey, for there is no other way to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey." An unwavering and obedient faith is binding upon everyone who accepts Christ Acts 16:30:...Sirs, what must I do to be saved? There is no greater question that any man can ask today. In the passage, there is an imperative force and thrust of the little word, MUST. The answer is provided in the full context: "And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house " (Acts 16:31), "And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.
And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house " (Acts 16:33-34). They had to hear the Lord s Word and obey the Lord's Word. Man MUST do so today! There is no other way! John 3:7: "Marvel not that I said unto thee. Ye must be born again." This is a direct instruction given by Jesus to Nicodemus. In the context of John chapter 3, one cannot enter into the kingdom of God unless that person is born again. Earlier in the narrative, Christ stated, "Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God (John 3:3). The new birth and being born anew both refer to the one baptism of the New Testament (Eph. 4:5). This MUST is just as imperative today as it was when first commanded by Christ. John 4:24: "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.." Man MUST worship God with the right attitude and. with the right authority. Our worship to God MUST conform to the powerful, precious truth of God! There are three simple, but vitally important aspects of true worship: (1) We must worship God; (2) we must worship God in spirit meaning rationally and sincerely; and (3) we must worship God in truth, as His word directs (Col. 3:17; John 17:17)." 2 Corinthians 5:10: "For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. All mankind will stand before the judgment seat of Christ, and all will be judged. The entire world will be judged by God. The eternal destiny of all mankind will be based upon our obedience or our disobedience to the will of God (Heb. 9:27; Eccl. 12:13-14; Matt. 7:21-23; Rom. 14:12). Page 2 GIVE UP grumbling! Instead, "In everything give thanks." Constructive criticism is OK, but "moaning, groaning, and complaining" are not Christian attitudes. GIVE UP 10 to 15 minutes in bed! Instead, use that time in prayer. GIVE UP looking at other people's worst points. Instead concentrate on their best points. We all have faults. It is a lot easier to have people overlook our shortcomings when we overlook theirs first. GIVE UP speaking unkindly. Instead, let your speech be generous and understanding. It costs so little to say something kind and uplifting. Why not check that sharp tongue at the door? GIVE UP your hatred of anyone or anything! [excepting sin and error (Psalm 119:104, 128; Romans 12:9), ]. Instead, learn to love. "Love covers a multitude of sins." GIVE UP your worries and anxieties! Instead, trust God with them. Anxiety is spending emotional energy on something we can do nothing about: like tomorrow! Live today and let God's grace be sufficient. GIVE UP TV one evening a week! Instead, visit some lonely, sick person, or someone in need of the gospel. Why isolate yourself in front of the "tube?" Give someone a precious gift: your time!

CLEAVE VINCENT (Baptized: September 9, 2018) Bible Study (4:00PM)... TODAY Sick Ministry (6:00PM)... Sept.17 Midweek Bible Study (6:30PM)... Sept.19 The church s leadership encourages every adult member and visitor to participate in our study of Joshua, chapter 24, under the topic, What Time Is It?. The chapter gives Joshua s final sermon to Israel. Learn what he has to say. Come on Sundays at 9:00AM and Wednesdays at 6:30PM to hear the call God is giving to us today through Joshua. The class is taught by our minister,. THINK ABOUT THIS!! There is a account of a day when Herbert Hoover was President. President Hoover, Mrs. Hoover, and an official group stopped one Lord s day morning at a little church building in the mountains of Pennsylvania. Most of the members were out for a drive that beautiful day and didn t give even passing thoughts to the importance of assembling for worship. Only 13 people were present when the President s party entered. Afterwards, the absent members said, If we had known that the President would be there we would have gone to church. This is typical of people who do not realize the importance of the assemblies of the saints! Christians do not miss a President when they fail to attend church services they miss the KING OF KINGS!!
