Thank you for taking the time to read this profile, which is written to give you an idea of our Church and what we are looking for in our new incumbent. We set out a description of our Church, parish and mission. The person we are looking for The congregation was consulted and asked to identify the qualities and characteristics that they were looking for in the new Rector whom we would wish to help us build on what we have achieved, help us to meet new challenges and move to the next phase of our journey. About the Parish Holy Trinity's small geographical parish has borders less than a mile apart in any direction and is situated a stone's throw from Penny Lane of Beatles fame! It is an anomaly in that it generally bears all the characteristics of a suburban parish with a small Urban Priority Area, but is to be found only 3.5 miles from the city centre. The Church looks out over a large park, Wavertree Playground (known locally as the Mystery as it was a mystery who gave the park to the people of Liverpool!), and is home to six Schools: Wavertree CE School, The Blue Coat School and the Royal School for the Blind, for which we have chaplaincies, Mosspits Primary School and two Jewish Schools, one Primary and the other secondary. The parish serves 8,500 people. It links the real urban priority areas of inner-city Liverpool with the leafy suburbs and the housing and make-up of the population reflects this. Small two up two down terraces escalate in size to generously proportioned detached homes inhabited by an eclectic mix of people. Until recently, the population had a high percentage of elderly people, but in recent years we have seen houses purchased for student accommodation (60,000 students attend Liverpool University, Liverpool Hope University and John Moores University, all situated in south Liverpool) and young families moving back into the area. This is still a place where generations of the same family live in close proximity to each other. The congregation predominantly comes from within the parish boundaries with 30% from beyond. We have a well-established core membership with a large fringe, and we view this as healthy. 4

About the Church Holy Trinity is an eclectic Church, drawing its members from within and beyond the parish boundaries. It is dependent upon its clergy, readers and congregation for ministry to Church members, the schools in the parish and the broader community. The numbers on the electoral roll show an increase of 18% on resident and 41% non-resident members since 2013 (159), a modest contribution towards the diocesan mission strategy of Bigger Church, Bigger Difference; more people knowing Jesus more justice in the world. The Church is debt free, pays its parish share religiously (apologies for the pun!) and tithes regularly. There is a great togetherness throughout the Church which has been strengthened during the interregnum. Our vision was drawn up over five years ago after consulting and involving the congregation thoroughly. Ideas were discussed about the types of activities that would see this vision realised and an action plan was drawn up. Progress was reported regularly to the congregation and fine tuning carried out when necessary. We are now at a point in time where we need to go through the process again and we would look to our new incumbent to play a critical role. We believe in inclusive Church Church which does not discriminate, on any level, on grounds of economic power, gender, mental health, physical ability, race or sexuality. We believe in Church which welcomes and serves all people in the name of Jesus Christ; which is scripturally faithful; which seeks to proclaim the Gospel afresh for each generation; and which, in the power of the Holy Spirit, allows all people to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Jesus Christ. This belief is reflected in the range and depth of our congregation and the togetherness that is felt across all groups and individuals. We are one of three Churches in the Wavertree group along with St Mary s and St Bridget & St Thomas. The relationship between the Churches is very good and there are joint services and social activities held. We endeavour to share our faith through prayer, outreach and generosity as well as through words and deeds. Our worship is eclectic with a sung Eucharistic base. Vestments are worn by the celebrant. Our services are based on Common Worship, but the liturgy is often enhanced/ supplemented with other resources and music. Special effort is put into the occasional services such as Easter, Christmas Remembrance and significant celebrations. Occasional Offices There are about eight baptisms each year, 3 or 4 weddings or blessings of a marriage, and around 30 funerals either in Church or at the local crematorium. Holy Trinity stands in its own large churchyard, which is in the care of the council. We can, however, open existing graves for burial or interment of ashes. The congregation identified the strengths of the Church. These are summarised as follows:- We are a friendly, welcoming and caring Church that accepts everybody and is child friendly We are a traditional Church with modern ideas and a range of activities, events and groups We have good links with local schools We have a strong music tradition including a robed four part choir of adults and children that embraces contemporary liturgy and music We offer a range of service and celebrations throughout the year We organise events for the community, such as Café Connect, Elderly Friends get together and Film & Food nights Holy Trinity too is our successful new venture for families to worship together We offer both spirituality and family feel Our Church Hall provides great facilities. 6

Buildings Holy Trinity was built in 1794 as a Chapel at Ease to Childwall parish Church at a time when Wavertree was a small village. Wealthy ship owners and men of industry and commerce gave money to build a beautiful Georgian Church with its balconies and elegant structure. In 1911 the Church closed for substantial alterations. Pews were rearranged and two balconies were removed leaving a gallery at the back of Church. The east end Chancel of the Church was remodelled in "Noe-Grec" style by Charles Reilly, a friend of the rector at the time and Professor of Architecture at Liverpool University. The late Sir John Betjeman subsequently described the Church as "Liverpool's best Georgian Church". After a fire in the 60s, a fine Walker organ was installed. Today, Wedgwood inspired colours are painted on the walls and ceiling and we have a light and airy Church with an excellent acoustic and no pillars to hide behind. The Church is in extremely good condition, particularly when you consider that it is well over 220 years old! It has just been redecorated and a dedicated group of individuals attend to regular maintenance and cleaning. Similarly the well-used Church Hall is also in good condition and is used widely by both Church and outside groups. 8

Our areas for development The PCC and congregation have identified that the following areas could be strengthened:- To recruit more young people/teenagers to Church and develop an ethos/strategy to retain them.
