Meditation Prayer of Adoration Apostles Creed Christian worship, we should recognize, is essentially a countereformation to those rival liturgies we are often immersed in, cultural practices that covertly capture our loves and longings, miscalibrating them, orienting us to rival versions of the good life. This is why worship is the heart of discipleship. - James K.A. Smith Call to Worship Psalm 126 L: When the LORD restored the fortunes of his people, P: Then our mouth was filled with laughter, L: and our tongue with shouts of joy; I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary, He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church*, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. *meaning the universal Christian church--all believers in Jesus Christ The Apostles' Creed has received this title because of its great antiquity; it dates from very early times in the Church, a half century or so from the last writings of the New Testament. P: then they said among the nations, L: The LORD has done great things for them. P: The LORD has done great things for us; we are glad. L: Restore our fortunes, O LORD, P: Those who sow in tears shall reap with shouts of joy! E: He who goes out weeping, shall come home with shouts of joy. L = Leader P = People E = Everyone

Song of Adoration Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee, God of glory, Lord of love. Hearts unfold like flow'rs before Thee, opening to the sun above. Melt the clouds of sin and sadness. Drive the dark of doubt away. Giver of immortal gladness, fill us with the light of day! All Thy works with joy surround Thee, earth and heaven reflect Thy rays, stars and angels sing around thee, center of unbroken praise. Field and forest, vale and mountain, flowery meadow, flashing sea, chanting bird and flowing fountain, call us to rejoice in Thee. Thou art giving and forgiving, Ever blessing, ever blest, Well-spring of the joy of living, Ocean depth of happy rest! Thou our Father, Christ our Brother, all who live in love are Thine. Teach us how to love each other, lift us to the joy divine. Confession of Sin Holy Spirit, flood our souls with gratitude for the precious blood of Christ. Teach us to love one another freely, just as we have been cherished by our heavenly Father. May obedience to him be our greatest goal and highest honor, and gratitude our reason to strive for obedience time and time again. In the name and for the glory of Jesus Christ we pray, amen. Silent Confession Words of Grace John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee Text: Henry Van Dyke, Music: Ludwig van Beethoven, Arr. by Edward Hodges, Tune: HYMN TO JOY Public Domain \ Used by permission. CCLI License # 3192548. Confession of Sin Affirmation of Faith New City Catechism Loving heavenly Father, We all hate people in our hearts, whether with icy cold resentment or red-hot fury, and we daily struggle to obey your command to love one another. Instead of laying down our lives, we murder the reputations of others with our bitter thoughts and spiteful words. Father, forgive us for our mountains of sin. Lord Jesus, We are debtors to your mercy alone. How we thank you for loving your enemies, your disciples, and your closest friends and family with sinless perfection. You took on our failure and became sin so that we could be credited with your flawless record of love. We thank you, Holy Father, for giving your precious Son to die for our sin, and for crediting us with all of his glorious perfections, even as we continue to sin daily. The New City Catechism is a joint adult and children's catechism consisting of 52 questions and answers adapted from the Reformation catechisms. Q5. What else did God create? A. God created all things by his powerful Word, and all his creation was very good; everything flourished under his loving rule.

Songs of Praise The Power Of The Cross Not What My Hands Have Done Oh to see the dawn of the darkest day Christ on the road to Calvary Tried by sinful men torn and beaten then Nailed to a cross of wood This the pow'r of the cross Christ became sin for us Took the blame bore the wrath We stand forgiven at the cross Oh to see the pain written on Your face Bearing the awesome weight of sin Ev'ry bitter thought ev'ry evil deed Crowning Your bloodstained brow Now the daylight flees now the ground beneath Quakes as its maker bows His head Curtain torn in two dead are raised to life Finished the vict'ry cry Oh to see my name written in the wounds For through Your suff'ring I am free Death is crushed to death life is mine to live Won through Your selfless love This the pow'r of the cross Son of God slain for us What a love what a cost We stand forgiven at the cross The Power Of The Cross words and music by Keith Getty and Stuart Townend 2005 Thankyou Music (Admin. by EMI Christian Music Publishing) Used by permission. CCLI License # 3192548. Not what my hands have done can save my guilty soul; Not what my toiling flesh has borne can make my spirit whole. Not what I feel or do can give me peace with God; Not all my prayers and sighs and tears can bear my awful load. Thy work alone, O Christ, Can ease this weight of sin Thy blood alone O Lamb of God, Can give me peace within. Thy love to me O God, Not mine, O Lord, to Thee Can rid me of This dark unrest, And set my spirit free. Your voice alone, O Lord, can speak to me of grace; Your power alone, O Son of God, can all my sin erase. No other work but Yours, no other blood will do; No strength but that which is divine can bear me safely through. I praise the God of grace, I trust His truth and might He calls me His, I call Him mine, My God, my joy, my light. T'is He Who saveth me, And freely pardon gives I love because He loveth me, I live because He lives. Songs of Praise Welcome At The Cross O Lord You've searched me; You know my way. Even when I fail You, Your holy presence Surrounding me; In every season I know You love me, Children ages 3 2 nd grade are dismissed to Covenant Kids. Congregational Prayer At the cross I bow my knee Where Your blood was shed for me; There's no greater love than this. You have overcome the grave, Your glory fills the highest place; What can separate me now? You go before me, You shield my way; Your hand upholds me, Bridge You tore the veil, You made a way When You said that it is done. You tore the veil, You made a way When You said that it is done. Scripture Sermon Psalm 84 At Home in God s House And when the earth fades. Falls from my eyes; And You stand before me, At The Cross words and music by Darlene Zschech and Reuben Morgan 2006 Hillsong Music Publishing CCLI License # 3192548. Offering The offering is intended for those committed to the work of Grace Presbyterian Church. If you are visiting with us, please do not feel compelled to give; we are grateful for your presence. Communion Grace welcomes all baptized Christians who are willing to forsake their sin and trust in Jesus Christ for salvation, and who are members of congregations that proclaim the Gospel, to receive Communion with us. Those not receiving are invited to consider the Prayers of Meditation. In keeping with Grace s tradition, each plate contains wine and grape juice. Only the cups in the outer ring contain wine. Individually wrapped gluten-free crackers are available at each station. We will receive the elements of the Lord s Supper from the front of the church. We encourage families to come together whether or not the children are ready to partake.

Prayers of Meditation Song of Response How Great Thou Art Prayer for those Searching for the Truth Jesus, You claim to be the way, the truth, and the life. Grant that I might be undaunted by the cost of following You as I consider the reasons for doing so. If what You claim is true, please guide me, teach me, and open to me the reality of who You are. Give me an understanding of You that is coherent, convincing, and that leads to the life that You promise, Amen. Prayer of Belief Lord Jesus, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful than I ever before believed, but through You I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope. I thank You for paying my debt, bearing my punishment on the cross, and offering forgiveness and new life. Knowing that You have been raised from the dead, I turn from my sin and receive You as Savior and Lord, Amen. Prayer for those Struggling with Sin Lord Jesus, grant that I may see in You the fulfillment of all my need, and may turn from every false satisfaction to feed on You, the true and living bread. Enable me to lay aside the sin that clings so closely, and run with perseverance the race set before me, looking to You, the pioneer and perfecter of my faith, Amen. Prayer of Commitment Lord Jesus, You have called us to follow You in baptism, and in a life of committed discipleship in Your church. Grant that I may take the necessary steps to be one with Your people, and live in the fullness of your Spirit, Amen. O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder Consider all the worlds thy hands have made, I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, Thy power throughout the universe displayed: Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee: How great thou art! How great thou art! Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee: How great thou art! How great thou art! And when I think that God, his Son not sparing, Sent him to die, I scarce can take it in, That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing, He bled and died to take away my sin. When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart! Then I shall bow in humble adoration, And there proclaim, My God, how great thou art! How Great Thou Art words and music by Stuart Wesley Keene Hine 1949 and 1953 Manna Music, Inc., Stuart Hine Trust Used by permission CCLI License # 3192548. Benediction

Scripture Sermon Psalm 84 Psalm 84:1 How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts! 2 My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the Lord; my heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God. 3 Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, at your altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God. 4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house, ever singing your praise! 5 Blessed are those whose strength is in you, in whose heart are the highways to Zion. 6 As they go through the Valley of Baca they make it a place of springs; the early rain also covers it with pools. 7 They go from strength to strength; each one appears before God in Zion. 8 O Lord God of hosts, hear my prayer; give ear, O God of Jacob! 9 Behold our shield, O God; look on the face of your anointed! 10 For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness. 11 For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly. 12 O Lord of hosts, blessed is the one who trusts in you! God offers rest God offers strength At Home in God s House Rev.
