2 TRURO FAMILY NEWS JUN 5 12, 2016 We Want You to Host a Meal this Summer Like Jesus Did! This Summer, our sermon series will take a look at many of the meals in the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation. Jesus Himself shared many divine meals in His own ministry. At these meals, He told stories, made friends, and controversially invited the least of these. The early church did the same as it began its intense spread throughout the Mediterranean world. Fast-forward 2,000 years, and we here at Truro are Jesus disciples. As part of this series, we will make space to grow in His image by simply gathering around meals together (more information in the coming weeks). God uses meals as a central means of telling us what He is like. So allow yourselves to be challenged by a savior who is depicted most often as healing and eating. May we all set the table, invite many, and learn what it s like to share Meals with Jesus. Forgot Your Wallet + Checkbook? Give Online! by Bob Tate Ever wonder: What would I do if the offering basket was coming around, and I forgot to hit the ATM or to bring my checkbook? Well, I decided to do an experiment. I whipped out my iphone, opened The City app, and timed how long it would take me to make a donation to Truro. It took me about 30 seconds, from start to finish, and seconds later, there was an email thanking me for my donation! Pretty amazing. So if you ever find yourself in this situation, just do what I did, and look with confidence in the eyes of the usher passing the plate and say: I gave online with a big smile! If you need help with online giving, please contact Meghan Graham at mgraham@truroanglican.com or call her at 703.273.1300 x125, and she will be happy to assist you! THIRD SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST JUN 5, 2016 5:00 PM THE FIVE SUNDAY EVENING SERVICE Welcome + Call to Worship Prayer for Purity Songs of Praise Prayer Announcements Scripture Reading John 2:1-11 Sermon Tim Mayfield Song of Response Communion Songs of Praise Closing Prayer Blessing + Dismissal John 2:1-11 (ESV) On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus mother was there, ² and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. ³ When the wine was gone, Jesus mother said to him, They have no more wine. 4 Woman, why do you involve me? Jesus replied. My hour has not yet come. 5 His mother said to the servants, Do whatever he tells you. 6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons. 7 Jesus said to the servants, Fill the jars with water ; so they filled them to the brim. 8 Then he told them, Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet. They did so, 9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10 and said, Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now. 11 What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.
