Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Trinity Tidings Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Page AUGUST 2016 Special Items of Interest: Pr. Mamy Ranaivoson Dear Trinity members, Since my last Tidings article in June, two of our beloved members passed on. Joan Vogue (6/12/16) and Oscar Albrecht (7/11/16). My prayers are with the families. This month of the August is still part of the summertime that we all love so much. We tend to have more flexibility for traveling, vacationing, trips to the ocean and beach, sightseeing and most of all, a time to relax. I want to wish you all a safe, healthy and happy summer. Enjoy it and get most of it as much as we can. But always remember to celebrate the gift of God in Christ Jesus which we receive by faith. Please see the invitation to a congregational meeting on July 31, in the church sanctuary, immediately after worship. Since Council just met on July 19th (a week later than usual), we did not have time to get the highlights ready for inclusion in this issue of Trinity Tidings. They will be included in next month s newsletter and by request, if needed, before then. Peace, Pr J. Mamy Ranaivoson 725 SW Buchanan St. Phone: 785-233-0767 E-mail: office@topekatlc.org

Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Page 5 PENTECOST PROJECT Where has the summer gone? Suddenly we're facing deadlines - for the school year, for our responsibilities to one organization or another in which we're involved, or even in our gardens. And one more deadline we can't ignore - our contribution to the PENTECOST PROJECT. Our goal, our mission - is to publish a book consisting of contributions inspired by the Holy Spirit from every member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church as a unifying force and as a witness of, to and for our faith to the world at large. When this publication is finally in print, before the Season of Pentecost ends, to be shared by all the members of Trinity and far, far beyond - we want it to include at least one contribution from every member of Trinity. Be a part of our gift to the world and to each other. We're still waiting for the first piece of art work, photography, or other new and surprising concept of a gift or gifts of the Holy Spirit. So, you're not an artist, you say. Surely each of us is capable of choosing a quote from the scriptures especially meaningful to you. Please - don't be the one left out! Save a stamp and slide your contribution under the church office door next Sunday. Or mail it to Pentecost Project, Trinity Lutheran Church, 725 Buchanan, 66606 or email it to office@topekatlc.org.

Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Page 8 Congregational Meeting Sunday, July 31, 2016 following worship Presented by the TLC Task Force The task force and council are requesting your attendance at a short meeting following worship Sunday July 31st. We will meet in the sanctuary immediately following the service. The purpose of this meeting is to visit with you regarding the task force and we are asking for your input and ideas. We have met several times since January and would like to share some information and hear from you. Over the past several years Trinity has experienced many significant challenges: several members have had life altering changes, over 20 members have died, and there has been several major maintenance expenses (new air-conditioner for the church, lightening strike to the church tower) with many more major items still needing to be addressed. We are thankful for every day and look forward to the future as we meet these challenges. Currently at midyear, our expenses have been $16,000 more than the income received. The church council is looking at our finances and our resources so we can keep the lights on and the doors open to continue our mission at Trinity Lutheran. The task force and council have a responsibility in finding a solution(s). But it will take ALL OF US TOGETHER taking a more active role to help Trinity Lutheran Church remain viable as we move forward. The Task Force has identified three primary assets at Trinity: Pastor Mamy, congregation members and our facility (sanctuary and buildings). Please take the time and be a part of this meeting together on Sunday, July 31.
