From the Pastor The Priest s Communion HOLY MASS To get ready for Holy Communion, the priest now silently prays one or both of two ancient prayers of humility and preparation. Both prayers ask God to make the reception of the Lord s Body and Blood an act that brings not judgement and condemnation, but mercy and protection. The priest asks that he be always faithful to God s commandments and never be parted from his Sacred Host for all to see. He quotes the very words of Saint John the Baptist when he saw Jesus walk by; the same Jesus of Nazareth who walked the earth is now held up for us to gaze upon: Behold the Lamb of God! Behold him who takes away the sins of the world! Then a word of invitation to this Feast and also to the Heavenly Banquet: Blessed are those called to the Supper of the Lamb! This and every Eucharist is the foretaste and pledge of that Heavenly Supper, and the priest and the faithful together respond in unison, in all humility, using the words of the Good Centurion in Saint Matthew s Gospel, Lord, I am not worthy that you should come under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed. The priest now says two very brief prayers, and reverently receives his Lord: May the Body [and Blood] of Christ keep me safe for eternal life, Next week: The flock is fed. SOLEMN HIGH MASS IN THE EXTRAORDINARY FORM Saint of the Week 7 May Saint Rose Venerini She was born in Viterbo, Italy, in 1656, into a family of the lesser nobility. When a girl of seven, Rose felt moved to consecrate herself to God, but later she accepted an offer of marriage. The sudden death of her fiancé shocked her and recalled her to her earlier promise, and Rose entered a Dominican convent. But her stay there was short: after her father died, she was needed at home. In the next few years, Rose s mother and brother died as well. In the midst of her grief, she invited other women and girls to her home to pray the rosary with her. As they talked together, Rose realized that the women had little real understanding of the faith. With two friends, she began to speak of founding a public school for girls- - - unheard of at the time. Their first effort in 1685 drew criticism from priests who felt that catechesis was their special prerogative. But Rose, spurred on by the urgent needs of her students, persevered to found ten schools in the diocese of Montefiascone. After and initial failure, Rose began a school in Rome in 1713 with the blessing of Pope Clement XI. When he visited the school, he reassured her, saying With these schools you will sanctify Rome. When Rose died in 1728, she had founded forty schools, and her work of education is continued today by her Order, the Venerini Sisters. Saint Rose Venerini, pray for us! In Honor of Our Lady of Częstochowa and the 100th Anniversary of the Apparitions at Fatima Wednesday 17 May 2017 10:00am Parish of the Good Shepherd 1598 South Main Street Fall River, MA Following Holy Mass, please join the Marian Procession to Saint Stanislaus Church where we will pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet.

From the Pastor Cont. Respect Life Ministry God uses creation to bring us into loving relationship with himself, most notably through the sacrament. We experience this most powerfully in the Eucharist, the true body and blood of Christ, received under the appearance of bread and wine, where all that has been created finds its greatest exaltation (Laudato Si 236). ~ Serene Attentiveness to God s Creation, USCCB Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities Respect Life Prayer Intention: May our love for Jesus in the Eucharist, his real Body and Blood, bring us together in cherishing all human life. All are invited to the Respect Life Prayer Service next Saturday, May 13th at 8:45am. There will be refreshments and fellowship after the service. Mother s Day Rose Drive Our parish will be participating in the Massachusetts Citizens for Life Rose Drive to show our support for the dignity of all life.
