Greetings From The East

Roe Fulkerson Lodge No. 299 F. &A.M From The East February was certainly a busy time in our Lodge. We had the pleasure welcoming R:.W:. Ronald P. Kamp, Director of Development and Communications at the Masonic Medical Research Laboratory. He gave us a most informative and insightful presentation of the facility s work and research. All those who attended the annual District 33 Ladies Dinner enjoyed an enjoyable evening with good food, music and many laughs. March also promises to be an eventful month. We will have the pleasure of welcoming R:. W:. James E. Park D.D.G.M. to our second stated meeting on March 18 th. This will be his last official visit to our Lodge, so please make every effort to attend the meeting. Our first E.A. Degree of the year will be on March 11 th. Last, but by no means least, we are holding our annual Steak Dinner on Saturday, March 20 th. See full details in our Junior Warden s report. Brothers, I need your help! I want to provide interesting and entertaining activities for all of you whether young or not so young. Without your input your Officers have to guess at what you may like to see us to organize. Please take the time to inform us of any activities in which you would like to participate. It can be anything from an outing to the arts, sporting events or just to a local restaurant. Perhaps some inter Lodge competition, be it Masonic based, secular or even a family softball event. Please just take a few minutes to email, telephone, fax or write a note to let me know what more we can offer. Our Tree of Life is going to be moved to a more prominent place in the lodge, where more visitors will have the benefit of appreciating its true meaning and value. Representative of our Endowment Fund, and our Lodge s future, it can only flourish by your generous support. Please consider purchasing a leaf for our tree to commemorate any occasion that you wish to memorialize. I look forward to seeing you all in Lodge, and at our many events. From the West My Brothers, It was about three years ago that I came to a crossroads in my Masonic career. I was raised a Master Mason in 2002 at West Broward Lodge, eight years ago. Six years later after serving one of those years as an officer, I felt I was not getting much out of attending lodge anymore. I began thinking I could make better use of my time just staying home. After thinking it over I decided I owed it to myself to see what Freemasonry had to offer before I simply gave up. I began traveling throughout the district attending District Deputy Grand Master s visits, visiting other lodges, attending Masters & Wardens meetings, District Instruction, and my first Grand Master s visit. Additionally I also began attending Scottish Rite meetings regularly. One night after one of the meetings a brother of Roe Fulkerson extended an invitation to me to visit. I accepted and found the brethren of Roe Fulkerson very friendly, and after visiting regularly for a couple months I realized that what I was looking for in Freemasonry was at Roe Fulkerson Lodge. I submitted a petition for plural membership and the next thing I knew I had accepted a place in the line. Through my traveling it had become clear to me that contributing time and talents to the Blue Lodge is really a great way to support masonry at the grassroots level and I was ready to do so. Looking back I realize now more than ever that I hadn t gotten much out of masonry those first six years because quite frankly I really hadn t contributed very much. Recently a talent survey was passed out in lodge. There is also a copy of it in this trestle-board. I ask you to take a few moments and think about how you can contribute your time and talents to our lodge. I urge you to complete the survey and turn it in. The lodge will benefit and you may just wind up as I did, enjoying this fraternity far more than you thought you ever could or would. We have a Stated Meeting on the 4 th, an Entered Apprentice degree on the 11 th, a visit from the District Deputy Grand Master on the 18 th, and our annual Steak Dinner on the 20 th. Did I mention *S-T-E-A-K D-I-N-N-E-R? All the money that is raised will go towards Lodge improvements, so shake those piggy banks and find $15 for each plate; there will be no charge for children under 12-years-old. Please see the Worshipful Master or me about purchasing tickets. I would like to thank our Junior Deacon, Einar Jordan, and Brother Alexis Gutierrez and his son for cooking our Lodge dinners last month. All of the Brothers raved about their meals; some of the Past Masters even managed to waddle multiple times from the buffet line to their seats. Again, thank you, Brothers - your help was greatly appreciated. If you are interested in helping with the meals or participating in a degree, please contact me. 3/11/10 E.A.
